QUALA-DIE SUPPORTS THE UNITED WAY

Elk County- Rick Schatz, Belinda Dinsmore, Cacee Reuscher-Gardner, and Dan Vogt of Quala-Die presented a generous donation to support St. Marys Area United Way 2023 Campaign. Receiving the check on behalf of the United Way was Doug Gaffey, St. Marys Area United Way President, Jim Ryan, St. Marys Area United Way Vice-President; Jason Gabler, United Way Corporate Campaign Chair; and Doug Bauer, United Way Payroll Campaign Chair.
Quala-Die, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Penn United Company is located on Brusselles Street, St. Marys. Quala-Die specializes in the manufacturing of powder compaction tooling and precision machined components and consistently supports the Elk County area.
Penn College set for cross-country regionals

A week and a half ago, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men won their first United East Conference cross-country crown and the women placed sixth, with five men and two women earning all-conference accolades in the process. On Saturday, things step up a notch at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Championships.
“The regional meet brings a next level of competition for our men and women. The Mid-Atlantic Region is a quality region with some of the top Division III teams in the country,” coach Tom Leeser said.

Sherry Menniti, 68, Formerly of Johnsonburg, PA

Sherry Menniti, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on September 25, 2023 at the age of 68 following a long illness.
Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside committal service for Sherry on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 10 AM at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. There will be a Celebration of Life for Sherry immediately following the service at the Holy Rosary School Cafeteria in Johnsonburg.
Sherry was born in Ridgway, PA on October 14, 1954, a daughter to the late Louis and Carrie DiIulio. On August 23, 1975, she married Greg Menniti whom she had been dating since the age of 16. They filled their 48 years of marriage with cherished memories and their bond of love shows the true meaning of devotion.
Sherry is also the loving mother of three children: Adrienne (Mrs. Jeff Stallard), Scott and Tony Menniti and was the proud and adoring grandmother of Collin and Felicity Stallard, who brought immense joy to her life.
Sherry was a retired x-ray technician and clinical supervisor at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club there for many years. Sherry was a prolific quilter and crafter and loved spending hours in her sewing room creating. She treasured quality time with her family and never missed an opportunity to spoil her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sherry was celebrated on Monday, October 2, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Chesapeake, Ohio.

John Gartner, 85, Emporium, PA

Emporium lost one of its greatest “characters” of all time this past week.
John Gartner, a son of the late Stanley Jacob and Thelma Montgomery Gartner, was born at home in Emporium May 18,1938.
John passed away at Snyder Memorial Health Center, Marienville, PA Friday afternoon (November 3, 2023) after a brief illness.
John served in the Air Force, training pilots and parachute jumpers in survival techniques, then returned to Emporium and piloted small planes for Stackpole. He flew anything with wings, and due to daring stunts survived three airplane and one helicopter crash. John was an avid rattlesnake hunter, skier, sailor, fisherman, and model airplane pilot.
John was a pretty big influence on his city-slicker nieces and nephew, who he taught to ride horses, milk the venom from rattlesnakes, shoot beer cans, jump off rope swings high over East Branch dam, fly hang gliders over the valley, and to appreciate Boone’s Farm and Swisher Sweets cigars (in moderation).

Herbert H. “Herb” Leininger, Jr., 65, of Bradford, PA passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.
He was born on May 7, 1958, in Oberlin, OH, a son of the late Herbert and Lennis Jones Leininger, Sr.
On January 14, 1982 in Elyria, OH, he married Eloise Fields, who survives.
Shapiro Administration Announces $16 Million in Grants for Electric Grid Resilience Projects
Concept papers will be accepted through November 14, 2023
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking applications for innovative, advanced, and transformative projects resulting in a more resilient and reliable electric grid. This program will help transform Pennsylvania’s electric grid in the face of growing climate threats and an evolving electric infrastructure. These projects will also promote the expansion of clean energy generation, workforce benefits, and positive outcomes in disadvantaged communities.
The first round of Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants Program funding will provide $16 million in competitive grants for resilience measures intended to mitigate the impact of electric grid disruptive events. This new program advances important energy security, climate, and hazard mitigation goals for the Commonwealth.

Wellsville Police arrested Damean M. Kessler, age 30 of Friendship, charging him with Assault 3rd (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (Class D Felony), Menacing 1st (Class E Felony), Criminal Obstruction of Breathing (Class A Misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (Class A Misdemeanor).
The charges stem from an incident that took place on Madison Street. Kessler was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. Kessler was committed to the Allegany County Jail on $10,000.00 cash bail or $20,000.00 property bond or $100,000.00 partially secured bond. Kessler is due back in Wellsville Village Court on December 5th at 4:30 pm.

On November 8 at 9:41 am Port Allegany, Smethport, Eldred, Roulette, and Coudersport Fire Depts were dispatched to a house fire at 1800 Rock Run Rd. in Annin Twp. Update the fire has been upgraded to a second alarm fire Roulette Ranker and engine and Coudersport tower have been dispatched the fire is fully involved
