UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, a global leader in women’s health care and research, has been recognized as a 2022-2023 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to UPMC Magee, UPMC Harrisburg and UPMC Williamsport also have been recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care. 

The annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their doctors, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. 

U.S. News evaluated nearly 650 hospitals that provide high-quality labor & delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies for its 2022-2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.  

To be recognized among the Best Hospitals for Maternity, hospitals had to excel on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families, including C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) rates, among other measures.

The Potter County Artisan Co-op in Coudersport is planning several classes over the next few weeks.

Laurie Angood will teach a Holiday Adult Watercolor Painting Class on Thursday, December 7, from 6 – 8 pm. Students will paint holiday themed cards. The cost for the class is $35.00.  Christmas treats and materials provided. 

Paint a Gourd Christmas Ornament Class will be taught by Danette Wightman, Saturday, December 9, 2 – 5 pm. All supplies included for the price of $20.00. 

Paint and build a wooden Christmas Gnome with Renee White on Saturday, December 16, 10 am – 2 pm.   Cost is $45.00 and incudes supplies.

A holiday Needle-felting ‘Take what you make’ class will be held with Danika DeCarlo Tuesday, December 19, 5 – 7 pm.  Cost is $25.00 and includes supplies.

The Young Artisan Holiday Party will be held on Thursday, December 28, 3-4:30 pm.  $20.00 includes holiday treats and painting supplies.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2023 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Deputy Under Secretary Farah Ahmad today announced that USDA is strengthening its partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a network of 25 organizations to help people in rural and underserved communities access affordable, modern and safe wastewater infrastructure.

The actions being announced today further the continued collaborations between both agencies to revitalize the nation’s wastewater infrastructure, improve water quality and protect the health of people living in rural areas.

“Decentralized wastewater systems are an integral component of our nation’s wastewater infrastructure, especially in rural areas where centralized treatment is often too expensive or unavailable,” Ahmad said. “USDA is committed to doing everything we can to ensure every family in America has access to modern, reliable wastewater infrastructure. That’s why we are strengthening our partnership with EPA to help historically underserved communities identify and pursue federal funding opportunities to address their wastewater needs. These efforts have enormous impact because when we invest in rural infrastructure, we invest in the livelihoods and health of people in rural America.”
