State Police Announce Sergeant, Corporal Promotions
The Pennsylvania State Police recognized the promotions of 36 new sergeants and 63 new corporals during a ceremony September 20 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Harrisburg, Commissioner Christopher Paris announced.
Leadership Cattaraugus Scholarship application process is open
September 20, 2023 — The Leadership Cattaraugus Scholarship Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation will be accepting applications from aspiring leaders hoping to participate in the Leadership Cattaraugus 2024 cohort through Oct. 31.
The Leadership Cattaraugus board of directors established the scholarship fund in 2018 to make program tuition more affordable to worthy individuals applying to participate in the leadership program.
The 2024 Leadership Cattaraugus program will take place from January through October. Applications are now being accepted at www.leadershipcattaraugus.org. Scholarship applicants must also apply for inclusion in the 2024 cohort.
Crack Sealing Project Continues Next Week on Multiple Routes in Lycoming and Tioga Counties
Motorists are advised that a crack sealing project continues next week on multiple routes in Lycoming and Tioga counties.
On Sunday, September 24, 2023, the contractor, Vestal Asphalt, will be crack sealing on Route 15 in both directions starting in the Borough of South Williamsport through Armstrong, Clinton and Brady townships to the Lycoming / Union County line. Additional work this week includes the Route 15 interchange ramps at Foy Avenue in Old Lycoming Township. Motorists can expect lane restrictions where work is being performed.
Rolling Roadblocks
In areas on Route 15 where there is a concrete barrier separating the northbound and southbound lanes, traffic will be controlled using a rolling roadblock. Work in this area is anticipated to be performed on Sunday, September 24, 2023, and Monday, September 25, 2023. Motorists can expect traffic delays and should avoid the area if possible.
Work will be performed between the hours of 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, weather permitting.
Additional work on this project includes the below routes in Lycoming and Tioga counties.
Lycoming County
Route 14 in Lewis and McIntyre townships
Route 15 in Brady, Clinton, and Armstrong townships
Route 220 in Porter, Piatt, and Woodward townships
Route 405 in Montoursville and Muncy boroughs; and Clinton Township
Route 654 in Armstrong Township
Route 2014 (Lycoming Mall Road) in Fairfield, Muncy, and Muncy Creek townships
Tioga County
Route 287 in Lawrenceville Borough; and Tioga and Lawrence townships
Route 49 in Lawrenceville and Westfield boroughs; and Westfield and Deerfield townships
Route 249 in Middlebury Township
Route 660 in Richmond Township
Route 2005 in Blossburg Borough; Covington and Putnam townships
Work on routes in Lycoming County will be performed between the hours of 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. There are no work time restrictions on the routes in Tioga County. Motorists can expect single lane restrictions with flagging where work is being performed. Work on this project is mobile, motorists can expect slow moving vehicle, possible rolling roadblocks on a portion of Route 15 in Lycoming County where work is being performed.
Vestal Asphalt is the prime contractor for the $ 641,243 crack sealing project. Work on this project is expected to be completed in December of 2023, weather permitting.
Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution through the work zone.

HOMETOWN SCIENCE FESTIVAL IS NEXT SATURDAY, SEPT. 23 IN WELLSBORO
Looking through a telescope, doing simple experiments and watching fascinating demonstrations will all be part of the fun at the Hometown Science Festival on Sept. 23
Next Saturday, Sept. 23, between noon and 4 p.m., children and adults are invited to participate in the Hometown Science Festival on The Green in the heart of downtown Wellsboro. The festival is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
Featured will be fun, hands-on science activities, such as simple experiments and demonstrations for children and families led by researchers, educators, students, natural resource managers, biologists, and citizen scientists.
Among the presenters and activity leaders for the festival are representatives from the Tioga and Potter County Conservation Districts and the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy. They will teach visitors about links between aquatic insects and the health of the Tioga River and streams like Pine Creek.
Arthur E. “Art” Slike, Sr., 83, Bradford, PA
Arthur E. “Art” Slike, Sr. passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 4, 1940, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Robert F. and Katherine B. (Graybill) Slike, Sr.
Art graduated from the Bradford High School, Class of 1958. After High School he attended JCC for accounting. He was drafted into the United States Army National Guard in 1962 and served honorably until his discharge in 1968.
In 1966 he started working for Hounds and Hunting Publishing Company. He later became Co-Owner with his brother, Robert F. Slike, Jr., in 1976 and continued to be Secretary/Treasurer and traveling correspondent until 2011, when he retired.

Rosalie C. Stanko, 76, of Tiona, PA, passed peacefully, on Thursday morning, September 21, 2023, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA., after an extended illness.
Rosalie was born October 5, 1946, in Jamestown, N.Y. She was the daughter of Louis and Sainty DeFrancesco Lombardo. She was a Warren Co., resident most of her entire life.
Rosalie was a 1964 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was employed as a cook with Warren State Hospital, retiring in 2006, after 25 years of employment.

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised of a lane restriction next week on Route 2017 (Main Street) in Blossburg Borough, Tioga County, for a bridge inspection.
On Monday, September 25, 2023, the contractor will be inspecting the bridge that carries Main Street over the Tioga River in Blossburg Borough. Motorists can expect a lane restriction with flagging while a crew uses an underbridge crane to perform the inspection. Work will be performed between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, weather permitting.
Asservo Project combats global human trafficking
The Agape Assembly of God church, located at 1004 Earth Road, Saint Marys, will host the Asservo Project on Sunday, September 24. There will be a 4:00 pm community dinner followed by a 6:00 pm workshop.
The Asservo Project combats global human trafficking and child exploitation, supports the recovery of survivors and aids in the imprisonment of perpetrators targeting children and young adults.
