Douglas L. Nelson, 67, of Osceola, PA

Douglas L. Nelson, 67, of Osceola, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Born May 6, 1956 in Wellsboro, PA, he was a son of the late Lester and Helen (Himes) Nelson.
Doug was a 1975 Graduate of Elkland High School. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Air Force. On January 12, 1980 in Knoxville, PA, he married the former Lisa Baker, who survives.
Doug worked at Carbaugh Tool in Horseheads for 25 years and then was a machinist at Corning, INC for 17 years before retiring.
Doug was a past member of the Osceola Fire Department, a past attendant for the Osceola Ambulance and a former Osceola Township Supervisor.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and carpentry.

Barbara A. “Bobbi” (Perry) Kinder, age 81, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Friday, December 8, 2023.
She was born on July 28, 1942 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta (Bodenheimer) Perry and was married to Joe Kinder, Jr.
Bobbi worked as a paralegal at Florida Abstract Title Company and loved to travel, go to the casinos and spend time with her family and friends.

Elaine Boylan, 87, of Route 219 Kane, PA

Elaine Boylan, 87, of Route 219 Kane, PA passed away Thursday (Nov 30) at UPMC-Kane.
Born March 18, 1936 in Brookston, she is the daughter of the late August and Frances (Blauser) Leichtenberger. On July 10, 1953 she married John Boylan, who preceded her in death.
Elaine was a dedicated volunteer and a giving person to her community. She loved cooking and baking and was always quick to share what she made with others. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was very proud of them.
Dorothy “Dot” Sluga, 94, formerly of 12 Anderson St. Mount Jewett, PA

Dorothy “Dot” Sluga, 94, formerly of 12 Anderson St. Mount Jewett, PA, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2023 in the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born December 31, 1928 in Kane, she was the daughter of Victor R. and Besse (Watterson) Lantz. On June 5, 1948, in Mount Jewett, she married William “Bill” Sluga, who passed away June 4, 2019.
Mrs. Sluga attended Mount Jewett School and worked for many years at Stackpole Corp. in Kane. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Jewett.
Inmate Undergoing Treatment at UPMC Hamot Escapes

Police confirm an inmate from Mercer County undergoing treatment at UPMC Hamot has escaped custody.
It happened earlier Saturday, and the man was last seen heading west on Second St.
A message sent to the Gannon University community told anyone who sees a man with a goatee and buzz cut who is wearing an orange jumpsuit to call 911.
No other details were immediately available.

Must be hand drawn design. No computer designs are allowed.
The design MUST include the following:
a. 88th Potter County Fair
c. Rooted in Agriculture (Fair theme)
4. Must be done in black and white and two other colors of your choice.
5. Only one entry per student. If more than one is entered, both will be disqualified.
6. Must be drawn in the circle on bottom of entry form.
7. Must be returned to the following address by February 1, 2024.

He must be taking a break from his sleigh, because Santa is going to be in the Shay locomotive at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum on December 9, 2023, from 12 to 3 PM, to hear your holiday wish list.
Take an instant photo with St. Nick and make a super simple family-crafted ornament. Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa. Browse a holiday bazaar of local artisans. Admission to the Santa in the Shay event also includes admission to the Lumber Museum’s exhibit galleries, so take the opportunity to learn some lumber and forest history with your family!
Be sure to dress warmly and wear boots because Santa and the Shay locomotive are outside in an un-heated building. There could be snow on the ground too, so be prepared. Guest will also have to climb a short flight of stairs to make their way into the cab of the locomotive, but Santa can come out to meet you as needed.
