Penn State Extension offers an agronomic pesticide update for applicators

Ridgway, PA. — Public and private pesticide applicators can get their recertification credits by attending an agronomic pesticide update workshop offered by Penn State Extension.
The Elk County update meeting will be held from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, March 6th at Hoss’s Steak House, 118 Haller Rd, Saint Marys, PA. Featured topics include impacts of water on pesticides and what’s new in pest management.
The Penn State Extension Agronomic Pesticide Update is a traditional Core (two credits) and Category (two credits) session for private pesticide applicators. However, any applicator may attend.

Robert J. Way, 82, of Warren, PA., died Sunday morning, February 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born July 24, 1941, in Clearfield, PA. He was the son of Robert J. and Rose Matsock Way, Jr. Bob was a resident of Warren, most of his entire life. He was employed with the U.S. Forest Service and A Safe Place. Bob enjoyed collecting coins.

At 1:58 PM on Monday, Belfast Fire Dept. was dispatched to a grass fire at 5841 Gleason Hill Road. Additional units have been dispatched to assist with this fire.
At 2:30 PM on Monday, Andover Fire Dept. has been dispatched to assist Greenwood with a wildfire at 2671 Rogers Road.
Spring like weather has caused fire danger conditions to exist that we don’t normally see until later in March & April. It’s best to avoid burning trash until the area is dampened by showers. If a fire gets away from you, you could lose your house, barn, sheds or maybe even your life, as well as the dedicated firefighters who respond.

David M. Dunmire, 80, of 7557 Emerson Road, Town of Wirt, NY passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 3, 1943, in Belmont he was a son of Charles M. and Thelma Witten Dunmire. In 1967, in Salamanca, he married Mary Anne Tompsick, who predeceased him in death in 1994. In 1998, in Cuba, he married Lyvonne Whitford, who predeceased him in death on January 17, 2006.
David was a graduate of Richburg Central Schools Class of 1963. He then served in the United States Navy from May 19, 1964 until August 16, 1968.
While living in Kalkaska, Michigan he was employed by the Midwest Forge Co. He then returned to New York and began working as a machinist for Dresser Rand in Wellsville retiring after thirteen years.

Penn College basketball coaches reflect

In another busy week, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball team closed out its season while its wrestling, men’s lacrosse, archery, and esports teams saw action — and a new women’s volleyball coach was named.
Highlighting this week’s schedule, wrestlers will compete Friday and Saturday in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship at Rochester, New York, while the baseball team is scheduled to open on Thursday at Elmira College. Previews for both of those squads will be forthcoming.
