Gary R. Kroh, 78, of Bradford, PA

Smethport – Gary R. Kroh, 78, of Bradford, PA passed away Friday (March 1, 2024) at The Pavilion at BRMC, Bradford.
He was born August 21, 1945 in Bradford, the son of Wayne and Nora (Gaul) Kroh. He had been married to Margaret Martin, who survives.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of Bradford High School and received an Associate Degree in Computer Science from University of Pittsburgh, Bradford.
He worked as a lab technician for Kendall/Witco Co. of Bradford, and later for Sunoco before his retirement. He co-owned Kroh Photography and Tuxedo Rental in Bradford for over 25 years.

Leaping for Leaplings at UPMC Magee-Womens Facilities
Williamsport, Pa., March 1, 2024 – Babies born at UPMC Magee-Womens facilities in North Central Pa. celebrated the rarest of rare birthdays on Leap Day, February 29.
Eight newborns were welcomed to the region with babies being born at UPMC Magee-Womens facilities at UPMC Cole, UPMC Wellsboro, and UPMC Williamsport. A total of 72 babies were born on Leap Day across all UPMC Magee-Womens facilities.
It’s estimated that there were 362,000 babies born on February 29 in the United States and approximately 5 million people celebrated their birthdays worldwide.

NPRC President Susie Snelick Appointed to Rural Community College Alliance Board of Directors

WARREN – Northern Pennsylvania Regional College President, Susie Snelick, was appointed to her position on the Board of Directors for the Rural Community College Alliance (RCCA) on Monday, February 19. Snelick is now one of just 13 higher education professionals from across the country who currently serve on RCCA’s board of directors.
Snelick’s involvement with the alliance began shortly after she became president at NPRC. Snelick attended their annual conference and immediately was welcomed as a part of the RCCA family. This connection brought her back every year for the past three years, Snelick has attended regularly scheduled networking events, conferences, and meetings hosted by the RCCA to learn from a wide collection of industry experts who share a similar goal of providing quality education to those in small towns and communities. It helped her to learn many best practices, develop new ideas, and pivot to help better serve students from across NPRC’s territory.
James D. Johns, 72, of Smethport, formerly of Coudersport

James D. Johns, 72, of Smethport, formerly of Coudersport, passed away Thursday February 29, 2024 at his home.
James was born on May 18, 1951, in Lancaster, the son of the late Brady and Miriam Johns. On December 12, 1970 he married the former Glory Winters and celebrated 48 years of marriage until her passing on June 23, 2019.
James was a truck driver and owned and operated Glory Trail Trucking Company with his wife. He later worked for Butler Transportation. James was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle, Coudersport, the NRA, and a contributor to the Family Life Center. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.
Causer to Offer Property Tax/Rent Rebate Assistance in Bradford, Mt. Jewett, Shinglehouse Next Week
BRADFORD – The annual Property Tax/Rent Rebate Clinics hosted by Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) continue next week as follows:
- Bradford Senior Center, 60 Campus Drive, Bradford: Monday, March 4, 9-11 a.m.
- Mt. Jewett Senior Center, 8 E. Main St., Mt. Jewett: Tuesday, March 5, 1-3 p.m.
- Oswayo Valley Senior Center, 128 Lyons St., Shinglehouse: Wednesday, March 6, 9-11 a.m.
The service is free.
A new state law increased income eligibility limits to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters, and residents should exclude 50% of Social Security when calculating income. The maximum rebate was also increased from $650 to $1,000. The program benefits eligible residents 65 years and older; widows and widowers 50 years and older; and people with disabilities 18 years and older.

the anticipation of sending and receiving physical letters with new

dropped off and delivered to the library for safety and simplicity.
The library will collect letters and will mail them to our partner
library in one package. All return letters will come in one package
to the library as well. We will cover the shipping costs.

Gloria J. Schenback: Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister
Gloria J. Schenback, 65, of 7286 Rawson Road, Cuba, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at home.
Born on December 31, 1958, in Buffalo, she was a daughter of David F. Schenback and Patricia Siehl.
Gloria was a graduate of Lancaster High School Class of 1977.
She obtained her CDL License to drive truck and had worked for various trucking companies over the years including R.E. Lipp Enterprises.
Gloria enjoyed Dairy Farming, ceramics, baking, building puzzles, and computer games, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse on April 8th! Cherry Springs State Park and Two Local Libraries are Partnering to Offer Programs to Learn More About Eclipses.
On Thursday, March 14th, bring preschoolers to the Coudersport Public Library for Storytime: Eclipses for a fun evening story time and craft! From 10 AM to 10:45 AM, we will read Total Solar Eclipse by Jayme Sandberg and illustrated by Kathleen Gadekin. Afterwards, kids will create an eclipse-themed craft to take home while learning about the solar eclipse that will happen in April and how to view it safely.
Then, on the evening of March 14th, teens and adults are invited to visit the Coudersport Library more in-depth look at eclipses with the Exploring Eclipses program from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Whether you’re planning on checking out the eclipse in-person or are just interested in learning more about them, this program will help you make the most of your eclipse-viewing day. We’ll learn about what an eclipse is, history of eclipses, how to safely view an eclipse, and what to expect on April 8th. Eclipse glasses and pinhole viewers are available to participants, while supplies last. This program is best for teens and adults, though families with children are welcome to attend. The park is also partnering with the Galeton Public library to offer the same Exploring Eclipses program geared toward older kids, teens, and adults on Thursday, March 21st, from 6 PM to 7 PM. Note the slight time difference from the Coudersport Library program.
All programs are free, no pre-registration required. In the event of inclement weather, the Coudersport story time will be rescheduled to Thurs, 3/21 and the teen/adult program to Tues, 3/19. Stop by any time between 2 PM and 4:30 PM to enjoy free, fun activities and look through our specially filtered solar telescopes! Eclipse glasses will be available while supplies last. The peak of the eclipse will occur around 3:20 PM. The eclipse will not be visible if it is cloudy. While not required, registration is encouraged to relay information about the weather. Arrest Made In Amish Woman’s Homicide
SPARTANSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man was arrested Saturday and charged with the slaying of a pregnant Amish woman whose body was found last week.
Shawn C. Cranston, 52, of Corry, has been charged with criminal homicide, criminal homicide of an unborn child, burglary and criminal trespass, Pennsylvania State Police said.
He was denied bail at a preliminary arraignment early Saturday morning and is being held at the Crawford County jail. Read more……….

Causer to Hold Satellite Office Hours
State Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) will hold monthly satellite office hours on Thursday, March 7, from 9-11 a.m. at the Emporium Borough Office.
Services available include assisting constituents with state-related issues or concerns, assistance with driver license and vehicle registration applications, and help in filling out applications for various state programs, such as the senior citizen Property Tax/Rent Rebate and PACE prescription drug assistance programs.

Student of the Week Levi Burrous

The SHCTC Networking and Security instructor, Mr. Bryant, is proud to announce the Student of the Week, Levi Burrous. Levi (Grade 12, CASD) has demonstrated the resiliency and persistence needed to be successful in whatever field he pursues. Levi exhibits an outstanding work ethic in shop labs and on theory assignments. He takes advantage of dual enrollment college credits at the CTC and has been accepted to Alfred State College. Levi is currently seeking his Network Pro certification.
