BRADFORD, Pa. – A summer construction project at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will require closing a small part of the Richard E. McDowell Community Trail to ensure pedestrian safety.
The trail will be closed July 16 from the parking lot next to the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center to Dorothy Lane.
OLEAN, N.Y., July 11 – Four recent area graduates received awards this year from the Burt Scholarship Fund, managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Carol E. Jarrabet, 76, formerly of Interstate Parkway and Jackson Avenue, Bradford, PA passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Bradford Manor.
Born on March 22, 1948, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Bignal and Martha (Franklin) Hurd. She was a 1966 graduate from Bradford High School.
Carol began working at Tracy Shoe Store in 1965, then worked at Zippo Manufacturing, retiring as a supervisor in Quality Control.
She was a former member of The Assembly Church of God, served on the Missionettes and several bible study groups, and the First Wesleyan Church.
David Charles Ennis of 577 South Main Street, Bolivar, NY passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the Highland Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility.
David was born September 17, 1944 in Olean and was the son of Paul and Coletta Wenke Ennis. He was formerly married to Suzanne Katz Harris who predeceased him on May 28, 2023.
Dave attended Bolivar and West Heneretta High School. He worked as a General Contractor for many years retiring in about 2011.
Dave also known as “Coyote” to a certain circle of friends, was truly a wanderer. He never missed an opportunity to take the scenic route, dropping in on any family, friend or acquaintance who happened to be home along the way. Most recently his favorite pastime was breakfast with “the boys” at Deb’s Deli.
Dave is survived by three children, Joseph M. (Jennifer) Ennis of Little Genesee, Charles A. (Lisa) Ennis of Obi and Patricia S. Linderman of Cuba; five grandchildren, Logan, Bryce, Kasey, CJ and Jacob; a great granddaughter, Liv Ennis; a brother, Timothy Ennis; a sister, Marsha Majors and four nieces and nephews.
Dave was predeceased by his parents and a sister in law, Gladys Ennis.

Joan Claire Becker “beloved mother of Shinglehouse, PA residents”
BELLEVIEW, Florida—Joan Claire Branigan Becker, 89, of Belleview, FL, formerly of Bancroft, NE, passed away at the Grace Davis Hospice House in Ocala, FL, on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024.
Joan was born in Omaha, NE on October 5th,1934 to Berniece (Sage) and Bernard Branigan. She was the firstborn and had three younger brothers. She grew up in the Cathedral area of Omaha, and attended St Cecilia’s Cathedral elementary and high school. She was in the Honor Society and was at the top of her class.
She was married to Bruce Marr at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha, NE in 1951. To this union twelve children were born. The couple moved to Grand Island, Lyons, and eventually settled in Bancroft, NE where they owned Marr’s Star Market and Locker Plant for over 15 years. While in Bancroft, Joan was active with the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the pro-life movement, was a CCD teacher, and in the Altar Society. She was active with other county and civil groups and always loved to be involved. She was a great cook, seamstress, and could teach herself how to do most anything. She was the greatest “fix-it” person around, always ready to tinker with something until it was working again. She loved a clean house and a well-set dinner table to welcome anyone that happened to stop by at mealtime. The Marr home in Bancroft had a revolving door for all the neighborhood kids. Joan and Bruce later divorced.
At 10:48 AM on Saturday, Wellsboro & Galeton Fire & EMS have been dispatched to the Rails to Trails at the bottom of the Turkey Path for a land rescue of a male with a compound fracture.
On July 12, at 6:27 pm Galeton and Wellsboro were dispatched to Cobb Hollow Rd. about half a mile from Rt. 660 for a mini bike crash with injuries. Galeton has been recalled. All fire units have also been recalled

145 OLD ROUTE 6 – ULYSSES TWP
Last evening at 2313 hours, the Second Alarm was struck for a House on Fire at the above location to assist the Goodyear Hose Co. #1. Tanker 48(w/5) responded at dispatch, followed by Truck 48(w/4), Engine 48-1(w/6) and Rescue 48(w/3).
Tanker 48 arrived as the 3rd due and pulled an additional line off of Engine 10-3 to assist with fire suppression, and also supplied them with water. Truck 48 arrived, checked the exposure building for any extension before moving to assist with fire suppression. Engine 48-1 and Rescue 48 sent their manpower forward to assist with fire suppression and extensive overhaul. Crews worked for just over 2 hours before being released.
Engine 48-1 was released from the scene and moved to a Transfer Assignment at Station 10 to cover their first due while units were still committed at the fire. All 48 units were back in service at 0350 hours.
Engine 46 from the Roulette Chemical Engine #1 covered our station while our crews worked the fire.
Curtis Eugene Towne of 107 Hillside Drive, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at his home.
Curtis was born March 6, 1957 in Jamestown and was the son of Milford E. and Patricia A. Lank Towne. On June 15, 2013 at their home he married his loving wife Lynn Pickhardt who survives.
Curtis was a cook in the Navy during Vietnam. He loved riding his motorcycle, his family and cooking for them, and all of his friends.
The Roulette Township Board of Supervisors held their monthly meeting on June 13, 2024 at the Roulette Township Building. Nita Spencer, called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Also, present was Supervisor Barry Sauers, Supervisor Morey was not present.

PUBLIC COMMENT:
•Beckie Gould asked why we didn’t hire Alan Lentz for the mowing, she also asked Supervisor Spencer if the audit was completed along with the work in the office. Beckie also asked if the road crew were stopping in stores buying alcohol and riding around in the work trucks.
•Doug Crum wanted to know if the township has an ordinance on farm animals in the town, he is very unhappy with the pigs and smell coming from his neighbor’s property he can’t enjoy the outside or use a fan in his window.
•AJ Fessenden wanted know why he wasn’t told about the rental fees on the grinder pump he borrowed. AJ also wanted to let the township know we could dump clean soil on his property.
•Jan Baxter wanted to know if the township had any information on the Skate Park being vandalized. Jan also wanted to know who was on the Chamber of Commerce committee.
Marlene Marjorie Veilleux, 76, of Smethport, PA passed away Thursday (July 11, 2024) at her residence in Smethport.
She was born January 21, 1948 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Gordon and Marjorie (Treat) Dudley. On January 7, 1967, in Port Allegany, she married Andre Veilleux, who survives.
Marlene was a 1965 graduate of Port Allegany High School and attended Olean Business Institute, where she received her Associate Degree to be a Paralegal.
She loved baking, cooking, doing puzzles and painting. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Susan Stitt, 75, of Highland Rd, Kane, PA passed away Wednesday evening, July 10, 2024 at Select Specialty in Erie.
Born October 14, 1948 in Kane, She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Josephine (Ulyan) Bizzak.
On August 4, 1973 she married the love of her life Donald E. Stitt, who survives, sharing 50 wonderful years together.
Mrs. Stitt worked as a school teacher for many school districts in the surrounding area but found her home in the halls of the Johnsonburg schools, retiring in 2011.
She was a member of the St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also an avid member of the Red Hat Society.
Rick Holmes (Fredrick L. Holmes, Jr), 73, of Kane, PA, Daytona Beach, FL, and Ione, WA passed away on Sunday (July 7) at UPMC Erie. He was full of life, made friends easily, and animals loved him (and he them). Rick was self employed for much of his life; first as a logger (primarily in Washington) and in later years he managed his oil and gas royalty company.
Rick loved to travel and he not only enjoyed frequent trips to visit friends and family, but also to experience new areas of the world. Highlights include visiting Australia with his niece and many trips to Europe with Barb Neumayer, Brandy Krause, and John Kidd.
A proud alumnus of Penn State (1973), Rick’s enthusiasm for Nittany Lions football was steadfast. He was a member of Kane High School class of 1969, as well as a member of the Kane Elks, Eagles, and Moose clubs.
Robin C. “Aunt Tweet” Mazurkiewicz, 60, of Prentisvale Road, Eldred, PA passed away on Monday (July 08, 2024) at Olean General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 23, 1963 she was the daughter of Edgar and Connie Johnston Armstrong. On June 27, 1987 in Eldred, she married Michael D. (Vern) Mazurkiewicz who survives.
Robin was a 1981 graduate of Otto Eldred School and a life long resident of Eldred. She was also a member of the Eldred Boro Fire Auxiliary.
