A group of enterprising students from the Networking and Engineering programs at the Seneca Highlands CTC experienced a thrilling hands-on opportunity today, beta testing a brand-new, in-development game from Gwoop. The experience kicked off with excitement and anticipation as students logged in to explore the game’s early version, collecting data and feedback crucial to its future success.

Susan A. Valentine, longtime educator, friend, and beloved sister and aunt, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after her battle with cancer.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is offering a free two-day workshop for K-12 teachers to help them integrate Indigenous knowledge and resources into their lesson plans and library collections.
The workshop, “Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge and Resources into K-12 Classroom Practices,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons. Lunch will be provided both days.
Earl L. Knight, 61, of 68 Main Street, Mt. Jewett, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025, at his residence.
Born April 30, 1963, in Bradford, he is a son of Anne M. (Perrott) Knight of Bradford and the late Carl A. Knight, Sr. who died in 1976.
Earl attended and graduated from Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and from Johnstown College with a degree in food preparation.
Earl had been employed at John Williams Bakery, and Bob’s Big Boy.
Michael A. Singer, 85, of Brandy Camp Road, Kersey, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
He was born on March 3, 1939, in Kersey, PA, a son of the late Merle and Ramona Buttano Singer.
On May 6, 1961, at Maria Lutheran Church, he married the late Joye Anderson Singer, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2022. Together they shared more than 61 years of marriage.

ARREST DETAILS Officers investigated an incident where a female victim reported to Bradford City Officers that a known male had entered her home while she was sleeping and laid down in bed with her, awaking her. The victim also stated that while in her home he did indecently expose and assault her.
Officers interviewed Wackwitz and an arrest was made. Wackwitz was arraigned before District Judge Richard Luther who set bail at $50,000 straight. District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that, following a one day jury trial at the McKean County Courthouse, Michael Basil WINSTON, of Bradford, was convicted of Indecent Exposure. Officer Terry Fuqua of the City of Bradford Police Department charged WINSTON after investigating a report that, on June 3, 2024, WINSTON exposed his genitals to a female. The victim reported that WINSTON pulled his pants down to expose his genitals and asked her to have sex with him. Assistant District Attorney Gregory A. Henry prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
Mark R. Cunningham, 74, of Middleport, NY, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 26, 2024.
Born February 10, 1950, in Wellsville, NY, he was a son of the late John and Mary Frances (Ryan) Cunningham.
He was a 1968 graduate of Port Allegany High School. He received his BS Degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh and later earned his degree in nursing from the Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing.
Elk County Coroner Michelle A. Muccio-Krise is releasing the 2024 year-end report for the Elk County Coroner’s Office. During the year of 2024, 283 cases were investigated by the Coroner’s Office.

The office also examined and issued 159 cremation authorizations and assisted four mothers through the Elk County Cribs for Kids program, which provides cribs to mothers who are in need of a safe sleep space for their baby.
January 25–Winter in the Lumber Camp: Outdoor fun in the snow with sledding, snowmen, and snow art activities. Try your hand at cross-country skis and snowshoes with the help of equipment provided by PA DCNR and volunteer instructors. Hot beverages and light refreshments will be available for purchase.
I stopped by Port Allegany Fire Department Star Hose Company #1 yesterday to check out the new SCBA – self-contained breathing apparatus – the company purchased with a $150,000 state grant I helped secure. The company purchased 21 units of the new equipment, and Chief Mike Johnson explained it is lighter weight, can hold more air and includes additional safety features. Those features include an electronic firefighter locator to aid in rescue if a firefighter became lost or trapped in a fire, as well as a more timely low air warning to give firefighters more time to exit a hazardous environment. Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect us, and I’m pleased we were able to help the company purchase some equipment to better protect themselves as well.
