FRIENDS OF HANLEY LIBRARY TO PRESENT PROGRAM ON BLAISDELL LEGACY

The authors of the book “Blaisdell Legacy” will share stories about the Blaisdell family’s many contributions to the community during a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, sponsored by the Friends of Hanley Library.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Mukaiyama University Room in the Frame-Westerberg Commons at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Presenters Ron Orris, executive director of the Blaisdell Foundation, Jack Gorton, Zippo historian, and Taylor Tarahteeff, writer, will talk about the impact that multiple generations of the family made in the community, the world and popular culture.
Before George Blaisdell invented the iconic Zippo lighter, his father and seven brothers built an industrial empire, which came to exemplify turn-of-the-century American ingenuity.
“Blaisdell Legacy,” traces the history of the Blaisdell name that has long been associated with industry and success and recounts the Blaisdell family’s determination throughout the years.
A reception will follow the presentation.
Donna J. Blose, 80, of Turtlepoint, PA

Donna J. Blose, 80, of Turtlepoint, passed away Thursday (October 17, 2024) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
She was born February 16, 1944 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Clare and Marie (Cummings) Crowe. In November of 1992, in Smethport, PA, she married John D. Blose.
She attended Port Allegany Schools and worked in quality control at Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, Port Allegany, retiring in 2000 after 26 years.

Lawrenceville Fire Department Was Dispatched For A Shed In The Roadway

This morning at 5am, the LFD was dispatched to a Road Hazard on RT. 15 MM 193, reported shed in roadway. 8-2 responded with 4 and arrived on scene to find a shed blocking all of the travel lane and half of the passing lane.
Tioga Volunteer Fire Department was redispatched to assist LFD with traffic.
LFD crews worked to move the shed to the shoulder where a tow service came to remove the shed. All units were back in quarters around 6:45am.

On October 20, at 2:01 pm Westfield, Knoxville, and Harrison Fire Depts. were dispatched to a wildfire at 247 Brookfield Rd. Update 20 to 30 hay bales are involved with the fire moving towards the woods.

On October 20, at 10:25 am Galeton, Germania, and Westfield Fire Depts. were dispatched near 188 Germania St. for a fully involved structure fire. Wellsboro, Coudersport, Knoxville, and Clymer Fire Depts. were also dispatched for mutual aid. Coudersport was told to hold in quarters. Update the fire is out
BAKED POTATO BAR FUNDRAISER AT THE COUDERSPORT SENIOR CENTER OCTOBER 28TH
The Coudersport Senior Center, located at 200 Chestnut Street, will hold a BAKED POTATO BAR FUNDRAISER on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Donation of $5.00
There will be lots of great baked potato toppings available.
A bake sale with a wide variety of goodies, 50/50 and beautiful Christmas quilt raffle will also be held. The 50/50 and quilt raffle will be drawn on December 11, 2024.

C&N Teammates are “Standing Strong Against Cancer”

Description: Join experienced bird banders, David and Fay Hauber, as they attempt to band Northern Saw-whet Owls right here in Sizerville State Park! We will have a short introduction on owls followed by instructions on what to do and expect during the demonstration. Wear sturdy shoes since we will be walking on trails, and feel free to bring a water bottle, flashlights, and lots of layers!

INDOOR FALL CONCERT SERIES TO FEATURE DROWSY MAGGIE NEXT FRIDAY, OCT. 25

Next Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro, Drowsy Maggie will perform a mix of Americana, old-time, folk, bluegrass and Celtic music, both instrumental and vocal arrangements.
This is the sixth concert in the Deane Center’s indoor fall entertainment series being sponsored by Ward Manufacturing and C&N.
Drowsy Maggie includes five musicians. Danny Shipe and Molly Cary are both lead and harmony vocalists with Cary on guitar and Shipe on guitar and banjo. Daria Lin-Guelig plays hammered dulcimer and concertina; Bruce Smith is on upright bass; and Dave Driskell on flute, clarinet, cajón, and whistle.
“We will be performing songs that are new to us,” said Lin-Guelig. They are: “Something More Than Free” by Jason Isbel and “Ain’t Nobody That Can Sing Like Me” by The Damn Quails, as well as “One Horse Town” by Blackberry Smoke; ”If I Needed You” by Don Williams and Emmylou Harris; “Listen To The Radio” by Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle; “Last of My Kind” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit; “I Could Drive You Crazy” and “Years” by Sierra Ferrell; and traditional instrumentals “Cousin Sally Brown” and “Fishers Hornpipe.”
Other songs they plan to do are “Oh My Love” by The Small Glories; “The Canary” by Joy Williams; “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift; “White Bird” by David and Linda LaFlamme, members of It’s A Beautiful Day; “Jerusalem’s Choir” by Kane’s River; and “Wellerman – Sea Shanty” by Nathan Evans. “We will also perform other old favorites in addition to many new instrumentals,” Lin-Guelig said.
Seating is cabaret style at tables. The concert is BYOB with audience members encouraged to bring their own favorite snacks and beverages and sit at a table with family and friends.
Also available is individual theatre-style seating in comfortable chairs.
