PennDOT Driver License, Photo Centers Closed for Juneteenth
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Thursday, June 19, 2025, for the Juneteenth holiday.
June 19, known as Juneteenth National Freedom Day, is an official annual observance in Pennsylvania. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when union soldiers reached Galveston, Texas – the furthest point in the south – with news of the end of the Civil War. Juneteenth is a day to commemorate emancipation and the steps we’ve taken toward freedom.
Trespassing Arrest In Keating Twp.
On June 9, 2025, at approximately 1611 hours, City of Bradford Police responded to a reported incident on Keating Avenue, where an unknown male was trespassing and acting suspiciously on the property. The same male returned a second time to the property and was detained for investigation. Through further investigation, officers identified the male as 21-year-old Owen M. Wesmiller of 143 Seaward Avenue. It was discovered that Wesmiller had previously been advised by City Police to refrain from trespassing on this property, as he had done so in the past. Despite these warnings, Wesmiller ignored them and continued to trespass. Surveillance video revealed that Wesmiller had been sneaking around the property, attempting to avoid detection.
The female homeowner reported that she had heard suspicious noises outside her home on a previous night, including the sound of her door knob being turned. On one occasion, she believed she saw a person outside her bathroom window but was too frightened to investigate. During the interview, Wesmiller admitted to trespassing on the property three separate times, attempting to enter the home through the rear doors, and attempting to watch the female homeowner through a window as she exited her shower and dressed. He confessed to these acts for personal gratification. As a result, City of Bradford Police charged Wesmiller with attempted criminal trespass (felony), invasion of privacy (misdemeanor), and disorderly conduct (misdemeanor). He was arraigned and remanded to McKean County Jail on $25,000 cash bail. Preliminary hearings are scheduled in the matter. The City of Bradford Police Department takes incidents of this nature seriously and will not tolerate such behavior. We will continue to arrest and prosecute individuals who commit these types of acts, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

McKean County is seeking a qualified and highly motivated applicant to perform the duties of a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the County Jail.
Primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Conduct patient assessments, perform physicals, order medications, and provide healthcare as required for all inmates at the County Jail.
- Conduct blood draws, urine samples, pregnancy testing, and strep testing as necessary.
- Maintain an accurate filing system to ensure consistency and accuracy of treatment programs and the reports prepared for the physician.
- Train inmates and staff on health issues, such as medication dispensation and what to look for in each inmate’s condition.
- Work independently, as well as under direction; make critical decisions, often in stressful situations.
- Assure accurate filing systems and compliance with record keeping requirements.
- Serve on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week as needed.
- At times must fill in for Mental Health provider, giving guidance and counseling to inmates.
- Assist in managing and tracking the inmate prescription process to ensure appropriate care and eliminate the chances of medications abuse.
- Identify and develop patient care planning and monitor the plan.
- Schedule medical testing with the County Physician and/or hospital personnel.
- Conduct research for inmate medical records.
- Take physician orders and transcribe them.
- Assist with other such duties as may be assigned for the successful operation of the department.
Requirements for Candidates:
- Minimum requirement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- One-year experience with adults in a treatment setting.

Houghton’s Dave and Linda Edwards Honored for Commitment and Service to Allegany County
At the Allegany County Legislative Board meeting on June 11, the Board adopted a resolution recognizing Dave and Linda Edwards of Houghton for their commitment and service to their community and Allegany County.
Dave Edwards was employed by the Town of Caneadea for 35 years and was a volunteer with the Houghton Fire/Ambulance Department for 39 years, serving as Chief for 28 years. Linda Edwards was employed by Allegany County for 34 years first as a Probation Officer and then as Director of the Youth Bureau and Stop-DWI Program.
Mr. Edwards is a Life Member of the Allegany County Volunteer Fireman’s Association and was awarded the Fireman of the Year for Heroism in 2007, and at retirement was recognized by Congressman Tom Reed and Senator Cathy Young for his service to the community.

James H. Stevens, 86, of Wellsville, NY
James H. Stevens, 86, of Wellsville, died Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in his home with his family by his side. He was born December 7, 1938, in Wellsville, the son of the late Charles Humphrey and Virginia (Barnes) Stevens. On September 12, 1959, in Wellsville, he married Nancy M. McCracken, who survives.
Jim was raised in Wellsville and was a 1956 graduate of Wellsville High School. He continued his education, attending Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA, and he earned his associate’s degree in applied sciences from Alfred State College in 1969.

Joyce A. Leviski, 89, formerly of Bucktail Road, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Elk Haven Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 3, 1935 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Caskey Seelye.
On August 28, 1954, in Sacred Heart Church, she married Eugene Leviski, who survives. Together they have been blessed with more than 70 years of love, laughter, and marriage.

Gregory Clare Bell, 76, of Eldred, Pennsylvania
Gregory Clare Bell, 76, of Eldred, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Greg was born on February 10, 1949, in Olean, NY, to the late Charles and Anna (Burr) Bell. He graduated from Otto-Eldred Jr/Sr. High School before attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Science Education (physics). Post graduate work was completed at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Simmons College in Boston where he studied physics and chemistry, respectively.
On June 26, 1972, after a brief delay due to Hurricane Agnes, Greg married his high school sweetheart Jane Ann Harris who survives. In the home that he built, they celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage and raised five children while welcoming nine grandchildren and their first great grandchild earlier this year.
Genesee Mills Road to Close for One Day Pipe Replacement Project
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that its Potter County Maintenance Organization will close Route 1010 (Genesee Mills Road) on Monday, June 16, for a one-day pipe replacement project. Replacing the 48-inch pipe located approximately three-tenths of a mile east of the intersection with Whitman Road in Harrison Township, Potter County, will prevent uncontrolled water flow from damaging the pavement and extend the service life of the road.
While the road is closed, traffic will follow a detour using Route 49, Route 1012 (Jackson Road), Route 1015 (Collins Hill Road), and Route 1013 (Bingham Center Road) back to Genesee Mills Road. In the event of rain on June 16, PennDOT will complete the work on Tuesday, June 17. Department forces will complete all work.

BIOTECH SUCCESS ENABLES ALUMNUS’S GIFT TO PITT-BRADFORD
Dr. Gilbert R. Mintz’s motivation, hard work and accomplishments in the biotechnology industry have enabled him to endow the Dr. Gilbert R. Mintz Scholarship, which will provide financial assistance to University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students studying natural sciences, such as biology, chemistry and physical science.
Mintz said he hoped that this scholarship will ease the financial burden for students who want to pursue a career in the sciences. “I am fortunate and pleased to be able to give back to the school that gave me the opportunity to attend college,” he said.

Colin L. “Corky” Stillman, 82, of Cuba, New York, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on April 26, 1943, in Cuba, he was a son of Lynn F. and Geraldine (Pettis) Stillman.
Corky was a graduate of Cuba Central School Class of 1962. He worked for ACME Electric in Cuba for 30 years prior to his retirement.
He attended the Cuba First Baptist Church.
He enjoyed walking his dogs, volunteering at the SPCA, riding his bike and taking care of his lawn. He also enjoyed HAM radio and his call number was WA2KKF.

Richard P. “Capt” Zydonik, 88, of Warren, PA., died Sunday morning, June 8, 2025, at Warren General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born December 1, 1936, in Altoona, PA. Richard was a Warren area resident since 1971, moving from Darien Center, New York. He attended Erie’s Academy High School. He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a Sergeant 1956-1959. He was employed with Loranger International as a maintenance electrician, retiring from there after many years of employment. He had previously been employed as manager of the former Cole’s Landing Restaurant and purchased Wades Woods Campground in Scandia, PA which he operated successfully with his family for many years.

The public is invited to attend a SENIOR EXPO AND POTTER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER’S COUNTY WIDE GET-TOGETHER to be held at the Coudersport Arboretum located at 201 S West Street, Coudersport, on Monday, July 21st from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Gunzburger County Office Building gymnasium located at 1 North Main Street. Enter at the rear of the building. The SENIOR EXPO is sponsored by the Coudersport Arboretum Association and in collaboration with Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging.
The Potter County Senior Center’s County Wide Get-together will again join the Senior Expo. Participants from the Coudersport, Galeton, Ulysses and Oswayo Valley Senior Centers will attend to visit the vendor displays, enjoy morning refreshments, a hot dog lunch and participate in games and activities. Bingo will be held from 11 a.m. until noon. Live Music will be from noon – 2 p.m.
