Danny R. COATS, 72, of Wellsville, NY, died Friday, May 2, 2025 in UR Jones Memorial Hospital. Born January 8, 1953, in Wellsville, he was the son of Jack T. and Eleanor R. Lynn Coats.
A graduate of Wellsville High School, he served honorably with the US Marine Corps from 1970 – 1973. Dan was employed by Cook’s Tire & Automotive Center in Wellsville, becoming the owner in 2004 and operating until his retirement. He was a member of Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702, Frank B. Church VFW Post #2530, and the Marine Corps League.
Dickinson Center, Inc. Observes Mental Health Awareness Month 2025

Every May, Dickinson Center, Inc. (DCI), an affiliate of Journey Health System, proudly takes part in recognizing National Mental Health Awareness Month. This year, they are prioritizing raising awareness about mental health issues and highlighting the importance of well-being in the community.
Mental Health impacts everyone, regardless of age, background or circumstance. Over 20% of American adults (more than 50 million) experience some sort of mental illness every year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). These individuals that experience mental illness could be loved ones or even ourselves. Fortunately, their dedicated mental health professionals are always there to support both adults and children on their healing journeys, assisting them in their recovery and making sure they do not feel alone.
Potter County Artisan Center Hosts 2nd Annual County-Wide Art Show

The Potter County Artisan Center was alive with creativity and community spirit on Saturday, May 3, 2025, as it hosted the 2nd Annual County-Wide Art Show. The event was made even more engaging through a partnership with Remake Learning Days of North Central Pennsylvania.
Thanks to the support of Remake Learning Days, the event featured newly funded display partitions and a hands-on craft activity for attendees. Participants of all ages had the opportunity to paint and decorate wooden frames and spring-themed ornaments, turning the event into a true maker experience.
Bethany Brown, art teacher at Austin Area School District and a grant recipient, led the maker station from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Artisan Center’s classroom. Her guidance and enthusiasm helped foster an interactive environment where learning and creativity flourished.
The student art gallery will remain open to the public through May 17, 2025, allowing visitors to enjoy the wide range of artwork created by local students.
BELL BOTTOM BLUES “LIVE ERIC CLAPTON EXPERIENCE” IS THIS FRIDAY, MAY 9
At 7:30 p.m. this Friday, May 9, the Bell Bottom Blues will present their “Live Eric Clapton Experience” concert in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
This New Jersey-based Clapton tribute band is named after “Bell Bottom Blues”, a song Clapton wrote with keyboardist and singer Bobby Whitlock about unrequited love. That song was performed and recorded by Clapton, Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon, all founders of Derek and the Dominos, which released it on Nov. 9, 1970 on their double album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.” It was Derek and the Dominos only studio album.

Judy A. App, 81, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Eldred, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 4, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Born on Friday, November 26, 1943 in Clymer, she was a daughter of Lewis “Sonny” and Alta Haggerty Galentine. On May 31, 1969 in Eldred, she married William H. App, who passed away on February 8, 2021.
Detour Announced for Railroad Crossing Repair on Route 4002 (Owens Way) on Thursday in Bradford Township
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that Route 4002 (Owens Way) in Bradford Township will be closed between Route 219 and Route 4005 (Main Street/High Street) beginning at approximately 8:00 AM on Thursday, May 8. A detour will be in place while a contractor for Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad repairs the railroad crossing on Owens Way. The project will improve ride quality and safety for motorists crossing the railway.
The detour will utilize Routes 219, 770, and 4005 for a detour length of just under three miles. Reponing is expected by the evening of Friday, May 9. All work is weather dependent.

She is the wife of Carl L. Borden, who survives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Darren J Sherman, and a brother and sister-in-law Robert and Beverly Williams and her Mother and Father In-Law Waymon and Emeline Borden.

Marlene Spicher “Spike” Thomas, 84, of Coudersport, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, with her loving family by her side. Born in Williamsport, PA, to Herman W. Spicher and Florence H. Miller, Marlene lived a life grounded in faith, creativity, generosity, and dedication to her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, James (Linda) Thomas, Jr.; daughters, Traci-Beth (Marc) Budd and Candice (Giusy) Thomas; and four cherished grandchildren: Madison, Brielle, Isabella, and Matteo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dory. Marlene’s legacy lives on in the lives she has touched through her creativity, intelligence, resilience, and quiet strength.
A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held in her honor at a later date.
