The vocal group North Country Voices will present “Faith Journey” a choral concert at the Park United Methodist Church Third Street in Coudersport, Sunday afternoon May 4 at 3:00pm and at St. Marys Catholic Church 630 Newell Road, Eldred on Friday May 9 at 7:00 pm.
The programs are being held in two historic churches, one in Potter County and the other in McKean County. Focusing upon the “Faith Journey” of early pioneers, the music is an attempt to reflect their spirit as they gathered to worship in community. A brief talk of early church accounts will be presented during the intermission of these concerts.
Music in which the lyrics paraphrase Sacred scripture such as Psalm 23 in “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need”, and Psalm 19:14 in “The Meditations of my Heart” by Elaine Hagenberg will be featured. The program will also include two exceptionally beautiful choral compositions by Dan Forrest, “And Can it Be?” a Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley, and an astounding arrangement of “How Great Thou Art.” Traditional Appalachian folksongs “Bright Morning Stars” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, spirituals, camp meeting songs and the Gospel tune, “I’ll Fly Away”, will round out the program.
The piano accompanist for North Country Voices is Cindy Smith and additional instrumentalists will be performing. The choral director is Gloria Richardson.
You are cordially invited to attend and enjoy the sound of delightful choral music and share the fascinating stories of early faith communities in the Wilds of Pennsylvania. Light refreshments will be served following the concerts. There is free admission with a free will offering kindly being accepted.
