ATV Christmas Parade Thursday in Smethport
Smethport Borough will be having their “Ride into Christmas ATV” parade on Thursday, December 15 at 6PM.
We want to spread some joy to those that can’t get out and see the Christmas lights.
Parade starts on Willow Street side of park, will go to Sena Kean first, back down Willow so the residents at Lakeview can enjoy the lights.
Borough Police will be our escort to all the side streets East and West on both sides of town. will end at Smethport Firehall with coffee, cookies and hot chocolate where our judges will pick 3 winners.
Come out and see all the decorated machines, hear the Christmas music and wave Santa on in his ATV sleigh.
Wolf Administration Discusses Updates to Naloxone Standing Order, Encourages Pharmacies to Keep a Variety of Formulations Available
Today, the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) and the Department of Health (DOH) joined the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association at Hershey Pharmacy to discuss updates to the Naloxone Standing Order and encourage pharmacies to keep a variety of naloxone formulations on hand for the public.
“A key component to decreasing overdose deaths is getting naloxone into all communities across the state,” said DDAP Special Assistant Steve Ross. “Every Pennsylvanian can access naloxone through their local pharmacy using the naloxone standing order. By adding different forms of naloxone to the standing order and encouraging availability of these products at pharmacies across the commonwealth, we’re giving Pennsylvanians additional resources for combatting the increase in fentanyl.”
Naloxone is a medication approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose by quickly restoring breathing to a person if their breathing has slowed or stopped. Naloxone can be administered by individuals with or without medical training to help reduce opioid overdose deaths. The DOH has resources available to educate people to use the naloxone products available to save lives.
The Wolf Administration instituted the first standing orders allowing the general public and first responders to obtain naloxone from their local pharmacy. In 2022 the standing order expanded to include an eight milligram naloxone nasal spray, ZIMHI, a 5 milligram (mg) intra-muscular injection device, and most recently, a non-prefilled syringe option with two single-dose vials of naloxone that is injectable.
“Naloxone is now available in all four forms, including the most cost-effective non-prefilled syringe and vial version,” said Acting Secretary of Health and Physician General Dr. Denise Johnson. “I want to make it easy for pharmacies to keep naloxone on hand and to provide residents with the option they feel most comfortable using to save a life.”
Pennsylvania also partners with Prevention Point Pittsburgh and NEXT Distro to support a statewide mail-based naloxone program for Pennsylvania residents to request and receive naloxone for free by mail. In August 2022, the Wolf Administration announced that 10,000 requests for naloxone have been filled through the mail-based program, providing almost 36,000 doses of naloxone to people in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.
Additionally, the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s (PCCD) Naloxone for First Responders Program (NFRP) provides and distributes free naloxone to organizations and individuals who may encounter someone experiencing an overdose. Through this program since 2017, Centralized Coordinating Entities (CCEs) distributed 181,247 kits of Narcan and an additional 265,308 kits of Narcan directly to organizations serving high-need communities through its Statewide Portal. More than 22,815 overdose reversals have been reported using state-purchased Narcan.

Fish School was held on Friday at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center.
Fish School was held on Friday, December 9, 2022 for the students in Kim Mooney’s Early Childhood Education class at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center.
What is Fish School?
It is a program designed to help children understand fish- the aquatic vertebrates that have gills, paired fins, a long body covered with scales, and tend to be cold-blooded.
Both the morning and afternoon Career and Technical students enjoyed playing games to test their knowledge after garnering information about different types of fish, the parts of a fish and the camouflage of fish. All topics were those that could be passed along later in science lessons written up by the CTC students and shared with younger students.
Thanks to Lorraine Jacobs, a Youth Education Instructor for water, forestry, natural resources, and ecology for the Penn State Extension, for bringing that program and many others to our area.
John J. Murone, 80, of 120 Wehler Road, St. Marys, PA
John J. Murone, 80, of 120 Wehler Road, St. Marys, PA passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his residence, with his family by his side.
He was born April 24, 1942, in Wishaw, PA son of the late James and Adeline Stefanelli Murone. John moved to St. Marys in 1955 and graduated from St. Marys High School in 1960. He was a committed member of the St. Marys community and owned Murones TV and Appliance. He valued his customers but above all, he valued their friendship over the years.
On June 17, 1972, in the United Methodist Church in Emporium, John married Sally J. Poorman who survives. They were blessed to share 50 years of marriage together.
Along with his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Bauer (Frank) of St. Marys; his son, John Murone of Roaring Spring, PA; two grandchildren: Matthew Bauer (Bekah) and Alanna Lilja; great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Araya, and Lorenzo; his sister Rosemary Carnovale of St. Marys; and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Frank Carnovale and Jeri Poorman.
John was a member of the Queen of the World Church, the Elks Club, Moose Club, and was involved with the Businessmen’s Association for many years. After his retirement, he enjoyed working for Prontock Distributing part-time. He donated his time and talents toward the Bavarian Festival when it was held on the Diamond and was a proud sponsor of the Polka Party on WKBI for over 50 years. He would look forward to his annual fishing trip to Galeton but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble and the Rev. Sang Hak Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

Alex “Ziggy” Zeigler, 20, of Warren, PA
Alex “Ziggy” Zeigler, 20, of Warren, PA., died unexpectedly, Thursday, December 8, 2022, at his residence. He was born November 7, 2002, in Warren, PA. Alex was the son of Kevin L. and Carrie Michelle VanCise Zeigler. He was a lifelong Warren area resident and a 2021 graduate of Warren Area High School. He was Captain of the Warren Dragons Football Team, and he especially loved all sports. He enjoyed hunting with his uncle, Kelly.
After high school, he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard, doing his basic training in Georgia for 5 months. He was attending Penn Tech Welding School, where he was President of his class. He was currently working in maintenance with Bull Run Resources.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his girlfriend, Halle McLaughlin of Sheffield, PA., 1 Brother – Jacob Kessing and his daughter (a niece) Amarah Kessing both of Warren, PA., Maternal Grandparents – Steven G. and Patrice E. Kirkwood VanCise of Scandia, PA., Paternal Grandfather – Ronald Barlett of Columbus, GA., 1 Aunt, 1 Uncle, 3 Cousins.
Friends will be received on Friday December 16, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm., at Faith Fellowship Church of God, 208 Market St., Warren, PA. A celebration of Alex’s life, will be conducted on Saturday December 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the church, with Rev. Dorothy Hillard, Pastor, officiating.

Fatal Crash on Minard Run Road Saturday Night
A Bradford man was killed and a woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Minard Run Road Saturday night.
According to the Bradford Township Police, 75-year-old Michael J. Longstaff was traveling west when his vehicle went off the berm of the road into a drainage ditch where it struck an embankment.
Longstaff was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 64 year old Cynthia Longstaff, was taken by Mercy Flight to an unspecified trauma center.
Joshua Hungiville is BCO Student of the Week
The Building Construction Occupations program at Seneca Highlands CTC nominates Joshua Hungiville as the student of the week. Josh is a 3rd year senior and has proven his content knowledge in the classroom and practical hands-on skills in the shop. He continues to challenge himself and has a good eye for detail.
Joshua attends Smethport high school. He lives at home with his parents Lenny and Megan Hungiville and also his younger sister and brothers, Elizabeth, Zach, and Wyatt. Joshua will either be seeking employment in the workforce or going on to a trade school.

This morning at 06:04 am we were dispatched along with MTS Ambulance and Almond Fire for a reported MVA near MM 117 West bound, vehicle into the woods. Angelica responded with 50, 2, 6, and 7. Upon our arrival we found one occupant still in the vehicle who was evaluated by EMS and refused transport to the hospital. We were back in service an hour later.
Dolores “Dee” Crosby Burlingame, 94, of Route 120, Emporium, PA
Dolores “Dee” Crosby Burlingame, 94, of Route 120, Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Sunday morning (December 11, 2022).
She was born May 1, 1928 in Youngsville, PA a daughter of the late Ivan and Rachel Coleman Crosby. On October 12, 1947 in Emporium she married the late Leo Wiliam “Bill” Burlingame.
As a child, Dolores lived in several places such as Pittsfield, Youngsville, Driftwood, Canisteo New York, with various family members as her father sought work due to the depression. She was the flower girl for her father and new stepmother Lillian Nordberg, and came to live with them in Emporium when she was 12 years old. Dee graduated from Emporium High School in 1946.
Dee worked at the Chat & Chew Restaurant, at Sylvania on the production line, and later owned Dee’s General Store in Truman for over 25 years.
Dee would describe herself as a helper as a foster parent, the neighborhood mom, election board worker, 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den mother, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader. She and her husband Bill encouraged and supported all six children in every activity and interest they pursued, including rescuing all types of wildlife. Their home became the community center for all the Truman children. Dee’s store was known as the meeting place for all folks young and old where the coffee was always hot.
Dee was a member of the Truman Community Church, Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and later the Methodist Church on Moore Hill. She held several offices in the Democratic party until recently changing to non-affiliation. She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Youngsville. She and husband Bill along with some of their kids enjoyed dancing and were members of the Alleycats square dance group for many years. She supported the Cameron County Ambulance and Fire Department, the Arbor Day Foundation, the Worldwide and National Wildlife Foundations.
She is survived by a five sons, Rod Burlingame (Jeanie), Reynoldsville; Dave Burlingame, Emporium; John “Greg” Burlingame (Cassie), Emporium; Les Burlingame (Janie), DuBois; Scott Burlingame (Nicky), Weedville; one daughter, Raeanne Burlingame, Emporium; 20 Grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Lutheran; daughter-in-law, Vicky (Emery) Burlingame; two brothers, Lynn and Harlow Crosby; stepmother Lillian; half sister, Diane Kuchenbecker; 3 half brothers, Gary, Allan, and Paul Crosby.
There will be No Visitation at Dee’s request, but rather remember that “My celebration of life was my 90th birthday party when I saw so many of my friends and family having fun with me and Mickey Mouse who is 14 days younger than me.” A gathering of friends and family will be at the Moore Hill Church in May, followed by burial in the Sanford Cemetery, Truman

Florence N. “Nancy” Shuey, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys and formerly of Silver Creek Terrace and First Avenue, Johnsonburg
Florence N. “Nancy” Shuey, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys and formerly of Silver Creek Terrace and First Avenue, Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, December 11, 2022 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born on January 2, 1931 in Johnsonburg, a daughter to the late Joseph J. and Veronica Dworsky Zelechoski. On October 7, 1953 in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married William T. “Bill” Shuey. He preceded him in death on October 15, 1996.
A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Nancy was a 1949 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Johnsonburg Senior Center. She had recently traveled the Middle East and Europe visiting Kuwait, Lebanon and Poland as well as other countries. She loved spending time with her family and her many grand and great-grandchildren. Nancy loved to play cards and make visits to the casino.
Nancy enjoyed being a homemaker, and had worked at many local grocery and neighborhood stores over the years including Deibler’s in Wilcox, “The Polish Store”, Notarianni’s, the Comet and Nelson’s.
Nancy is survived by her children; William J. Shuey and his wife Donna of Johnsonburg, Joseph T. Shuey of Johnstown, Janet, Mrs. Andrew Redmond of Ridgway and Diane, Mrs. Bart Szymanski of Rasselas. Nancy is the grandmother of Carrie, Jamie, Sara, Ginny, Kelly, Jenna, Katie, Andrea, Alex, Robert, Adam, John, Billy, Matthew and Michael and 30 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Erma Zelechoski.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy is predeceased by a great-grandson Nathan Singer, brothers; Edward, Stanley, Steven and Robert Zelechoski and sisters; Mary Ann Stewart and Agnes Zelechoski.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Florence N. “Nancy” Shuey will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Wednesday December 14, 2022 at 10 AM with Fr. David Wilson, Pastor as Celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F Ferragine Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel, 401 Chestnut Street Johnsonburg, Pa on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Lee E. Gausman, 79, of Kane, PA
Lee E. Gausman, 79, died December 8, 2022, at UPMC Hamot after suffering a massive stroke. He was born on February 22, 1943 in Kane to the late Francis and Mary Gausman. On June 7, 1969, he married Nancy Jean Smith, who survives.
Lee was a 1961 graduate of Kane High and grew up working alongside his father as a mechanic at Gausman’s Garage. He developed an interest in welding and was largely a self-taught fabricator. Lee eventually took over the garage and grew his fabricating business, working mostly on log trucks. He was also a beloved school bus contractor and driver for many years. A jack-of-all trades, Lee could fabricate most anything and fix almost everything. He had many fond memories of the friends he made over the years at the garage,
An avid outdoorsman, Lee enjoyed hunting, bench-rest shooting, and fishing on Chautauqua Lake. He spent much of his time in the summer at his cottage on Loomis Bay. In his later years, Lee and Nancy spent winters near South Padre Island, Texas, where they enjoyed the nice weather and time with their dogs. He was a life-long member of St. Callistus Church and the Kane Fish and Game Club. Lee was a kind and generous man and well-respected in the Kane community.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Roger (Emily) Gausman of Warren, David (Shelly Timpano) Gausman of Kane, and a daughter, Mary (Bert Cleer) Gausman, also of Kane. He has five grandchildren: Jack Jones, Noah Gausman, Kallee Gausman, Aaron Gausman, and Andy Gausman. He also has two step-grandchildren, Seth Woolcock of State College and Austin Woolcock of Curwensville. He also has a surviving stepbrother, Jim Mague.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Robert Mague of Kane.
Viewings will be held on Tuesday, December 13 from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM at the Cummings Funeral Home, Greeves Street in Kane. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Callistus on Wednesday, December 14 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Philip Pinczewski and the Rev. William O’Brien, as celebrants. Interment will follow in St. Callistus Cemetery.

Donna Marie Dugener, age 78, Muskegon, MI
Donna Marie Dugener, age 78, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 10, 2022 at her home in Muskegon.
She was born in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania on April 8, 1944 to Theodore and Naomi (Ryan) Klawuhn. Donna was married to Thomas Dugener for 13 years prior to his death in 2017.
She was employed as the store manager for the Admiral Petroleum Co. in Whitehall for 11 years prior to her retirement.
Donna enjoyed trips to the casino, watching crime shows, had a strong faith, and loved God.
She is survived by five children, Marie Nunley of Oklahoma, Phillip (Jill) Green Jr. of Kane, PA, Carla (Leon) Sherwood of Smethport, PA, Elaine (Jeff) Ostrander of Port Allegany, PA, and Henry (Cheryl) Kephart of Michigan; 5 stepchildren; and many grandchildren.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

Penn College to Offer Three Practical Nursing Courses in 2023
Penn College has scheduled three clock-hour Practical Nursing Programs for 2023 – two full-time programs in Wellsboro and Coudersport, and a part-time program in Wellsboro only. The first full-time program will start March 14, 2023, and the second full-time program begins September 11, 2023. Students will graduate approximately one year from the start of the program. The part-time program, offered only in Wellsboro, begins June 8, 2023, and students will graduate twenty-two months later.
Qualified nursing instructors provide classroom instruction in theory and nursing skills. Affiliation with UPMC allows for clinical experiences at UPMC Wellsboro and UPMC Cole. Other local healthcare affiliates are also utilized. Graduates earn a certificate in Practical Nursing and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam for licensure (LPN). Graduates find jobs in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, private homes, physician offices, and other health-related offices.
To acquaint prospective students with the course, an Information Session is scheduled on Monday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Penn College/Wellsboro, 22 Walnut Street. Wellsville Police arrested Andrew A. Prentice, age 39 of Wellsville, charging him with Petit Larceny. The charge stems from an incident that took place on Park Avenue on December 4th. Prentice was also arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Wellsville Village Court for failure to appear in Court on a previous Petit Larceny charge.
Prentice was processed and arraigned before Town of Wellsville Justice Graves. Prentice was committed to the Allegany County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail or $10,000.00 property bond or $20,000.00 partially secured bond. Prentice is due to appear in Wellsville Village Court on January 3rd at 4:30 pm.
