RIDGWAY – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (North Central) announces a new in-person public works safety course will be offered through PennDOT’s Local Technical Assistance Program.
Public Works Safety will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the Coudersport Borough Building in Coudersport. Attendees of the course will learn a basic understanding of common safety factors and practices that are associated with public works road maintenance operations. The class will focus on trench excavation, crack sealing with hot asphalt, mowing and chain use, and winter maintenance.
The course will give an overview of how and why accidents happen and best practices for protecting personnel with personal protective equipment. An emphasis will be placed on workplace awareness focusing on chemical safety, environmental hazards, and vehicle and equipment safety issues. Establishing an effective workplace safety program will also be discussed.
The course is designed for individuals who perform maintenance or construction work for or on municipal roadways, including roadmasters, crew foremen, equipment operators, and laborers.
