Jeanne M. (Schneider) White, of Coudersport, PA
Jeanne M. (Schneider) White, of Coudersport, PA, born January 9, 1927, and passed away peacefully to her eternal life on April 15, 2025 at the age of 98. Jeanne joins her husband, John T.S. White, who predeceased her on January 20, 1996.
Jeanne grew up in Rochester, NY. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1944 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Good Counsel College in White Plains, NY in 1948. Following her graduation from college, Jeanne spent time working for Eastman Kodak, and soon after, became secretary for Bishop James E. Kearney of the Diocese of Rochester.
After their marriage, Jeanne and John lived in Fort Collins, CO and South Bend, IN. They raised their three children in Rochester and Big Flats, NY, where Jeanne was a homemaker and active volunteer in her children’s schools. Once they were older, she worked as a secretary at Notre Dame High School in Elmira, NY.
Eventually, she and John retired to his hometown in Coudersport, PA where they were members of St. Eulalia Catholic Church. She served as a lector and CCD teacher for the parish, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was also a eucharistic minister for the homebound. Jeanne adored her family and friends. She had lifelong friendships with those from grade school (her “sorority” beginning in 5th grade), high school, and college. She loved to travel and was an avid reader all her life.
Jeanne is survived by her children: Kathleen M. Cole and James E. White, both of Chapel Hill, NC; Elizabeth A. (William) Kunz of Pittsford, NY; grandchildren: Laura and Caroline Kunz; sister-in-law, Miriam White of Dubuque, IA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Hazel Schneider, sister, Elizabeth (Raymond) Wiley, brother-in-law James A. White and son-in-law, Wayne Cole.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Cole Manor and Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport for their excellent care and compassion.
Family and friends may pay their respects, Monday, April 21, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 E. Maple Street, Coudersport, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in St. Eulalia Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeanne’s memory to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org or the Coudersport Public Library, 502 Park Ave, Coudersport, PA 16915.
