Jane E. Moore, 77, of Hanover, PA

Jane E. Moore, 77, of Hanover, PA entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at her home.
Born July 17, 1949, In Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Ella K. (Harding) Firor. She was the loving wife of the late Russell, Moore, Jr., they married in 1983.
At times a single mother, she had to work hard, as she put it, to put a roof over her kids’ head and make sure they were fed. At one time, she worked three jobs to make ends meet.
Jane liked working full-time at Doubleday and Hanover Wire Cloth Company, where she proudly kept her stations spit-polish clean. A penny pincher, as a beneficiary of the employee discount at Doubleday, she purchased many “defective” books for dimes on the dollar for gifts for family.
In 1985, Jane, husband Russ Moore, and their kids left for Fulda, Germany, where they lived until 1997.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, Jane and Russ operated Moore’s Live Bait and Tackle, in Potter County, which she made sure to include, it’s God’s Country. Jane loved interacting with the customers.
Jane also loved reading, Fifth Street Diner, broasted chicken, shopping, and keeping in close touch with her siblings.
She loved music, especially The Four Tenors and Culture Club, and enjoyed live concerts at the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.
A fashionista, Jane loved gussying up with makeup, jewelry, stylish boots, and colorful hats.
She loved good storytelling and laughing.
Jane had a lovely, unforgettable laugh. And her smile could melt a cynic’s stone-cold heart.
A woman of great faith, Jane attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ — Hanover’s “silk stocking church” on Broadway — as a child, sang in the choir and was very fond of it throughout her life. In later years, when she couldn’t attend in person, Jane attended virtual services via her laptop.
Jane chalked much of the joys, happy serendipities, and near-misses in life to God.
When recently diagnosed with a large tumor in her bladder, doctors and family suspected the worst. But when the results came back, results were benign. At the doctor’s office, to Jane and daughter Christina, the doctor said, “I’ve never seen or heard anything like it.”
More than anything, Jane loved her family. She was so proud of her daughter, Christina, son Tim, and her grandchildren. She glowed when she talked about them and regarded them as beautiful, cherished gifts of God and her greatest achievements.
Jane is survived by her children, Christina L. (Barnhart) Wagner of Hanover, PA, and Timothy T. Rill, Jr. and spouse, Anne K. Rill of Erie, PA; 4 stepchildren, Ginger Moore Hill, Gary Moore, Irene Moore Orwig, and Brian Moore; 4 grandchildren, Kyle Wagner, Sheridan Wagner, Halle Rill and Owen Rill; 1 step grandchild, Nevah Eckard IV; and her siblings, Stephen N. Firor of Broken Arrow, OK, Virginia K. Trite of Harrisburg, PA, Edmund L. Firor and Lori A. Firor, both of Hanover, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael D. Firor.
A service to celebrate and remember Jane’s life will be held 2 PM, Friday, October 23, 2026, at The Kenworthy Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with her Pastor, the Rev. Ken Peterkin officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM Friday, October 23, 2026, at the funeral home.
