Single Family HousingAugust 6, 2026Housing Preservation Grant Notice of Funding OpportunityRural Development published the Fiscal Year 2026 Section 533 Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) Notice of Funding Opportunity on August 6, 2026. The HPG program awards grants to qualified organizations to repair or rehabilitate homes, rental properties, or co-ops occupied by low- and very-low-income residents in rural areas. Eligible applicants include most State or local governmental entities, federally recognized Indian Tribes, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based organizations.In addition to regular program funding, Rural Development makes $2,090,000 available from the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. This funding helps people repair homes they own or rent that were damaged by a Presidentially declared disaster in calendar year 2022.Applicants must propose repairs for properties that sustained damage in a Presidentially declared disaster in calendar year 2022. Applicants can find the list of disaster areas maintained by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at this link: FEMA Website. On that webpage, applicants select “Disasters and Assistance” then “All Disaster Declarations,” finally input 2022, and choose “Major Disaster Declaration” or “Fire Management Assistance Declaration” as the declaration type.The maximum award is $50,000.Additionally, Rural Development makes $250,000 available from the American Relief Act, 2025 (Public Law 118-158) for Puerto Rico.Applicants may submit preapplications to the Rural Development State Offices or through Grants.gov.
