GRASSROOTS SERVICE IN ACTION: POTTER COUNTY RECYCLING INITIATIVE PASSES $1,000 MILESTONE IN FOOD BANK DONATIONS
COUDERSPORT, Pa. — October 19, 2026 — A weekly community effort rooted in environmental care and neighbor-to-neighbor support has surpassed a major milestone. The Potter County Democratic Committee announced today that its Saturday morning volunteer operations at the Potter County Recycling Center have now generated more than $1,000 in direct monetary contributions for area food pantries since taking over operations in June.
The initiative, part of the Committee’s core commitment to “Presence and Service,” converts regular Saturday recycling routines into financial support for local hunger-relief efforts across Potter County. Every dollar collected from patrons dropping off materials is channeled directly into local pantries—such as the Galeton Food Bank and other county distribution programs—helping stock shelves with essential groceries and supplies for area families.
“When we stepped up to manage Saturday recycling in June, our goal was to ensure this service stayed open while delivering direct, practical help where our community needs it most,” said Brent Bryant, Chair of the Potter County Democratic Committee. “Hitting over $1,000 in community donations proves the power of small, consistent actions. Every resident who stops by on Saturday morning to drop off recyclables or leave a contribution is directly helping put meals on a neighbor’s table.”
The ongoing success of the program reflects steady community participation across the county:
– Direct Local Impact: 100% of collected funds go directly to local food banks and pantries throughout Potter County to help meet rising food assistance needs.
– Resource Preservation: Diverts valuable recyclables from local waste streams while maintaining a dependable community recycling depot.
– Neighbor-to-Neighbor Service: Staffed by community volunteers committed to public service and regional resilience.
Center Hours and Location:
The Potter County Recycling Center is located on Damascus Road in Coudersport and is open for community drop-offs every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (noon). All county residents are welcome to participate.
