Dorothy K. (Krause) Smith, 94, of Wellsboro, PA
Dorothy K. (Krause) Smith, 94, of Wellsboro, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, in her home surrounded by family.
She was born December 16, 1930, to Harry D. and Florence (Briston) Krause in Wellsboro. Dorothy graduated from Wellsboro High School in the class of 1949. On August 19, 1950, she married Carl L. Smith and together they enjoyed 74 years of marriage. She and her husband Carl owned and operated the family dairy farm, Smith Piano and Organs, Radio Shack, and Smith’s RVs.
Dorothy was an avid horseback rider and participated in barrel racing. She was an accomplished musician and had studios in Wellsboro and Elmira, NY where she gave accordion lessons as well as teaching piano and organ in her store. She was a former member of the Mary Wells Order of the Eastern Star in Wellsboro, and a member of the Coolidge Hollow Community Church where she served as choir director, organist and Sunday School teacher. Dorothy enjoyed hunting out west, canning and freezing home grown vegetables. She loved her family, and was particularly good at cooking for them and friends. Dorothy devoted herself to serving people and the Lord.
Dorothy is survived by a son: Thomas (Sandy) Smith of Wellsboro; a daughter: Judy (Ed) Smithgall of Wellsboro; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister: Vivian Roby, and a brother-in-law: Donald Smith and Bob Roby .
Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Dorothy’s life from 5pm-6pm Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Coolidge Hollow Community Church with her memorial service to follow at 6pm in the church with pastors Dave Burkett and Bill Baker officiating.
