Roland C. Cleaveland, 90, of Emporium, PA passed away at Veterans Administration Hospital, Altoona, PA on Friday (April 26, 2024) morning following a lengthy illness surrounded by his family. He was born June 16, 1933 in Waterford, Maine a son of the late Horace Lowell and Hazel Bennett Cleaveland. On December 4, 1957 in South Portland, Maine he married the late Elsie I. Marston.
Roland attended school in Maine before joining the US Air Force and serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a POW for 6 months, also a recipient of two purple hearts and numerous other service medals. He then served with the US Coast Guard for a few years. He went to school in Maine to become a furnace burnerman and worked in that capacity for several years. He later worked at the Shirley Basin in Wyoming mining uranium. Roland enjoyed antique cars, steam locomotives, hunting, fishing, and playing his harmonica. He also loved eagles, watching westerns, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
George R. Brown, 41, of 4206 Rte. 305 South, Cuba, NY passed away unexpectedly, Friday, April 26, 2024 at home.
Born on September 16, 1982, in Olean, he was a son of Edward Brown and Laurie A. Rought Kelley.
George attended Cuba-Rushford School. He had worked as a farmhand for various farms, Davis Auto in Cuba, was a self-employed mechanic, and was currently working for A-1 Rental in Olean.
He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children.
Anthony A. “Tony” Young, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Penn Road, St. Marys, PA passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 with his family by his side following a brief illness.
He was born on February 20, 1931, a son of the late Nicholas and Matilda Smithbauer Young. On May 26, 1962, in Sacred Heart Church, he married Jane Rigard, who survives. Together they were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage.
Tony was a lifelong resident of the area and graduate of Central High School, class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, and then went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Penn State DuBois in Drafting and Design Technology. He retired from Keystone Powdered Metal Company after more than 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the St. Marys Sportsmen’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church, where he also very active as a volunteer over the years.
Roy De Filippis, 94, of Fort Pierce, FL passed from this earth to be with our Lord on April 19, 2024 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Roy was born on August 22, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey the son of Arcangelo (Archie) and Lavinia (Brune) De Filippis. who predeceased him. He grew up in West Orange, New Jersey before moving to Florida in the 60’s with Swift and Company. In 1981, he moved to Delaware with his company where he met his wife Ramona. He retired in 1989 from Swift Independent Packing Company as Vice President of Branch House Development after spending several years moving around the country.
Daniel Ray Costley, age 61 of Knoxville, PA passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 27, 1962 in Blossburg, PA, he was a son to Ronald and Julia (Button) Costley. Daniel spent 30 loving years together with Elizabeth “Betty” Twist and then on July 28, 2018 they decided to marry.
Dan was a dedicated, hardworking farmer having spent his life building his dream farm; Costley Dairy Farm, where he loved spending time with his cows and packaging and selling raw cow milk. Before he was a full time farmer, Dan worked for Gehman’s and then later went on to work at Stackpole in Knoxville, PA which became Kane Magnetic in Galeton, PA.
He enjoyed going on road trips to buy farming equipment, rebuilding vehicles and spending time with his 3 dogs – Ellie May, Josie and Buck. Dan was an all-around handyman, he loved tinkering on things, building new projects and helping his family with anything they needed. It was said that Dan was a proud, humble man and the “family mechanic”. He also was a member of the Butler Hill Baptist Church and he enjoyed spending time with his church family.
In loving memory of William “Willie” Van Zanten, who passed away on April 14, 2024, at the age of 74.
William, known as “Willie”, was born on November 2, 1948, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to his beloved parents Paul Van Zanten and Dorothy Horstman Van Zanten.
After losing his father at the age of thirteen, his formative years were spent in Mooseheart, Illinois, where he attended Mooseheart High School, graduating in 1966. At Mooseheart, Willie worked at a dairy farm where Dell Klussendorf, mentored him and he discovered a passion for the trade. After graduation, he worked at a dairy farm in Brookville, Pennsylvania. Later, he found his place as a laborer in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, where he established his home and community ties.
Willie had a passion for bluegrass music, spending countless hours enjoying its melodies. He found solace and joy in nature, often retreating to his camp and embarking on memorable travels.
He is survived by brothers: Robert, Jack, and Warren Van Zanten; a sister, Jeanette Van Zanten-Stump; a sister-in-law, and friend, Dottie Spohn-Van Zanten.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Thomas and brother, Paul Van Zanten.
At Willie’s request, there will be no service.

Carl L. Smith, 96, of Wellsboro, passed away Friday April 26, 2024, at Carleton Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born May 25, 1927, in Montoursville, PA to Kenneth E. and Myrtle (Turk) Smith.
After graduating from high school, he was enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII. On August 19, 1950 he married Dorothy Krause with whom he shared 73 years of marriage. Carl was a dairy farmer, the owner and operator of Smith Piano and Organs, Smith’s RVs and the local Radio Shack for forty-five+ years. He was a member of the Coolidge Hollow Community (United Methodist) Church, Ossea Lodge #317 F&AM of Wellsboro and the Coudersport Consistory.
Carl is survived by his wife: Dorothy K. Smith of Wellsboro; a son: Thomas (Sandy) Smith of Wellsboro; a daughter: Judy (Ed) Smithgall of Wellsboro; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Vivian Roby of Wellsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Donald Smith.
Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Carl’s life from 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm Wednesday May 1, 2024, at the Coolidge Hollow Community Church with a memorial service to follow in church at 5:30 pm. Burial will be in the Shumway Hill Cemetery.

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA—Roger W. Hanson, 77, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Barkeyville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a long struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and pneumonia.
Born on February 17, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of Kenneth Wright Hanson and Cornelia “Connie” Hanson, and step-son of Marvin Savidge Reitz, all of whom preceded him in passing.
He was a graduate of Pennsauken High School in NJ, and a graduate of Slippery Rock University in PA, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology. Roger was a US Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War where he attained the rank of SP5.
Thelma R. SMITH, 73, of Westfield, PA, died Thursday, April 25, 2024 in her home.
Born January 12, 1951, in Potter Brook, she was the daughter of Cleo Joseph and Gladys Onalee Houghtaling McCaslin. On February 27, 1971, in Potter Brook, she married Norman R. Smith, Jr. who survives.
She was employed by Valley Dollar Saver and K&W Medical / MedPlast.
Thelma was a member of the People’s Church of Potter Brook and the Potter Brook Happy Hour Club.

Carolyn Ann Lefik Musante, 77, of Sugar Grove, PA., died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Titusville Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Titusville, PA., after an extended illness.
Carolyn was born in Warren, Pa., on May 11, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Irene Fabry Lefik, of Pittsfield, PA. Carolyn was a 1964 graduate of Youngsville High School and a graduate of the Career Academy at Washington, D.C. She was employed with Elmer J. Stevens, D.D.S. an oral surgeon of Erie, PA. then went to work at Warren Dental Arts Hospital, Warren, PA., assisting in all aspects of Dentistry.
Carolyn married Robert (Bob) Musante, her loving caring husband on August 1, 1970 at St. Luke’s R.C. Church, Youngsville, PA. She was a former member of the Church Altar Rosary Society. Carolyn and Bob were members of the Slovenian Dance Club for several years and enjoyed ball room dancing. She loved and owned horses, liked to paint, draw, and sew, and do all types of arts and crafts. She also enjoyed refurbishing and refinishing furniture, and hiking. She also loved her camping trips with her family and her horses. Most of all she loved doing things with her grandchildren. To her, one of the best things in her life other than when she married her husband, Bob was becoming a grandma.
Eva M. Pearce Cramer, 81, of 92 Bates Road, Bradford, formerly of Duke Center, passed away, April 20, 2024, at Hugh Chatham Health in Elkin NC.
Born April 11, 1943, in Spangler, she was a daughter of the late James and Edith (Fliger) Garvey.
On April 30, 1960, in Rossiter, she married Harry L. “Sonnie” Pearce Jr. who preceded her in death on January 18, 2018. On April 10, 2021, at the Assembly of God Church she married Fred A. Cramer, Sr., who survives.
After raising her children, she was employed at Case Cutlery, then in the meat departments at Sal’s & Son’s, Bells Supermarket, and Tops. Prior to her retirement she worked at Bradford Electronics.
Eva was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress, and she loved working with her flowers and roses bushes. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Douglas J. Osgood: Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather
Douglas J. Osgood, 82, of 2604 State Rte. 275, Richburg, NY passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born on September 6, 1941, in Olean, he was a son of James B. and Gowanda R. Densmore Osgood. On July 23, 1965, in the Bolivar United Methodist Church, he married the former Carolyn B. Sharp who survives.
Douglas served with the 78th Engineer Battalion in the United States Army from 1959-62.
He had owned and operated Supervac Septic Service, the Hole-in-One Golf Game that he traveled to Fairs with, and was still operating Bluchers Custom Graphics with his wife. He had also worked as a laborer for the Town of Wirt, but retired as Highway Superintendent in 2006.
Stephen Victor Farrell, born March 4th 1950, passed away on April 23rd 2024. Steve was the son of Victor and Dorothy Farrell and (older) twin-brother to Sandy Mattone whose husband, Gerry, was more like a brother to Steve.
He married his soulmate, Kathy Farrell, on September 10th, 1977. During their 46 years of marriage, they followed their dreams around the state while growing their family with two children, Victoria and Adam, whom he loved beyond words, and raised many of his favorite dog breed, German Shorthair Pointers. While an incredible husband and father, Steve was an even better Grandfather to his 3 precious Grandchildren- Cole, MacKenzie, and Carter.
Steve graduated high school in 1968 from Warren Area High School and attended Pennsylvania College of Technology, majoring in Forestry.
Steve began his career with what is now DCNR as a Forest Technician assigned to the District 15 Office in Coudersport on December 16th, 1970. After several promotions and transfers, he became Park Superintendent I in October 1978 as the Work Unit Coordinator for the residential Young Adult Conservation Corps Camp in Quehanna. He remained there until the program ended in December 1981.
Dale L. “Uncle Dale” Southard, 66, of Main St., Eldred, PA passed away on Sunday (April 21st, 2024).
Born on October 29, 1957 he was the son of Lewis F. and Catherine Baker Southard. He was a 1975 graduate of Otto Eldred High School and then attended Toni and Guy Barber’s school in Erie, Pa.
Dale was a lifelong resident in Eldred and owned and operated Dale’s Barber Styling since 1986. He was a drummer in several local bands including Imagine, Tradewind, Shuffle, and Alabama Rain. He also played softball for “Skeeters Inn” and “The Dukes”
Dale was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Most of all, he was a great uncle to everyone and loved spending Wednesdays and Sundays at his sister’s house with family. He was affectionately known as “Floyd the Barber” by all the locals.
Christopher William Lane, a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on April 22, 2024, at the age of 67. The middle of five children born to Daniel and Joyce (Ackman) Lane, he spent his childhood in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania (aka P.A., PA) playing football, running track, and generally creating good-hearted shenanigans with his siblings and friends. He attended Penn State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and becoming a life-long Penn State football fan in the process. Early in his career, he worked in the banking industry, later switching to marketing and sales at Osram-Sylvania and KOA Speer Electronics. He met and married his wife of 42 years Kimberly (Abel) Lane while completing his MBA at St. Bonaventure University. Chris and Kim enjoyed traveling together, watching live sports, and sharing good food and drinks with friends.
They had two children, Jennifer (Travis) Myler and Daniel (Amber) Lane. Throughout their lives, Chris showed up for his children; attending countless school and athletic events across the region and state. Chris loved his children dearly, but maybe not quite as dearly as he loved his grandchildren, Isaac Myler and Riley Corrigan. Chris was dealt a hard hand (as many of us have been or will be) health wise. Throughout it all, he handled himself with grace; teaching us the values of perseverance and optimism through his example. We will think of him always, but especially whenever we enjoy some of his favorite things like listening to classic rock, visiting national parks, hearing the crowds roar WE ARE…PENN STATE, or drinking a craft beer.
Chris is now reunited with his cherished parents and in-laws (George and Mae Abel), finding comfort in their loving presence once more.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by brothers Daniel (Terry), James (Kathie), and Martin Lane, as well as his favorite sister, Sarah.

David L. DeLullo, Jr., 70, of Silver Creek Road, St. Marys, PA passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, with his family by his side.
He was born November 9, 1953, in Ridgway, son of Diane G. DeLullo and the late David L. DeLullo, Sr. David was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1971 and Penn State University, Class of 1974.
On December 22, 1986, the iron horse cowboy married his horseless cowgirl, Sara Lion Schlimm, and then remarried Sara DeLullo on September 28, 1996.

Duane R. Stocum, age 44, of Wellsboro, PA died on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
He was born on June 13, 1979 in Wellsboro, PA a son of Duane O. Stocum and the late Virginia “Jenny” L. (Wilson) Stocum and was employed by Tyoga Container, Tioga, PA.
Duane enjoyed fishing, playing poker, watching sports and he loved spending time with his children, nephews and his dog, Lucky.
He is survived by his father: Duane O. Stocum of Wellsboro, PA, son: Ben Stocum, daughters: Ari Stocum, Nomi Stocum all of Wellsboro, PA and a sister: Jessica Gesford of Sayre, PA.

Richard Philip Krise, age 72 of Lawrenceville, PA passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Corning Hospital. Born on December 13, 1951 in Blossburg, he was the son of the late Philip r. and Dorothy M. (Casbeer) Krise.
Dick retired from Corning Inc., was a member of the Osceola Fire Department and a member of the Valley Community Ambulance Association.
He enjoyed classic country music and was an avid outdoorsman; loved hunting, fishing, camping and riding his 4-wheeler.
Kenneth J. Hamblin, Sr. age 73, of Addison, NY passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Absolute Care Three Rivers in Painted Post, NY.
Born May 31, 1950 in Blossburg, he was the son of the late Wilber O. and Helen M. (Owlett) Hamblin. Ken was a lifelong farmer, who loved milking his cows, riding horses, fixing lawnmowers and square dancing.
He is survived by his siblings, Janet L. Burgess of Addison, Patti and Wesley Baker of Addison, Wilma Jones of Elsberry, MO, Dottie Stapleton of Corning, NY, Virginia and Wyatt Wolf of Rotonda West, FL, Evelyn Brown of Columbus, GA, Roger and Deb Hamblin of LeRoy, NY, Jim and Kathy Hamblin of Addison and Jerry and Joye Hamblin; a son, Kenneth J. Hamblin, Jr. of Bath, NY; a daughter, Jeannie Hamblin of Bath, NY; grandchildren, Topaz and Leon; brothers in law, Bob Towsley Sr. and Larry Mundy and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalee Hamblin; sisters, Phyllis Towsley and Judy Mundy and a brother, Leonard Hamblin.

With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lura Bailey Rouse, 93, on April 12, 2024. Born September 15, 1930, she was the daughter of Harold And Melinda Bailey.
Lura spent her early and teenage years in Scio, NY. Many years were spent in Knoxville, PA, raising her family with her husband, Wesley and her later years were spent in Tully, NY.
Lura was predeceased by her loving husband, Wesley Rouse; son, Gary Rouse and sisters, Alma Harmer and Beryl Reinprecht.
Kristin R. Bird “Loving Mother, Daughter, Sister & Friend”
Kristin R. Bird passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her home.
Kristin was born on March 20, 1981 in Olean and was the daughter of Richard G. Bird and Michelle K. Peck Steinbroner.
Kristin graduated from Trocaire College with a degree in Massage Therapy. She loved to help people find peace, both physically and emotionally.
Kristin was a kind and free spirit, who unapologetically believed in being herself. She loved her family and friends, but more than anything in the world she loved her son, Aiden Jay Harrington. Kristin raised Aiden to be himself and proudly passed on her many gifts to him. Kristin had a very creative nature and loved to dance, sing, and draw. She had a contagious laugh and a beautiful smile that will be impossible to forget.
Roberta Ann Myers, 70, of Bradford, PA passed away April 21, 2024, at the Bradford Manor, after a brief illness.
Born on April 27,1953, in Bradford, the beloved first child of the late Robert Myers and Dolores (Rose) Myers.
Miss Myers, as she was known by her students at the St. Bernard School where she taught for over 40 years, and was a dedicated educator, committed to bringing out the best in each of her students. She felt blessed, in some cases, to have taught multiple generations of St. Bernard’s families.
Roberta was an avid reader, who loved watching movies, especially Science Fiction, and spending time with her devoted circle of friends and family. She will be missed by many.
