William C. Swanson, 92, passed away peacefully on 14 August 2024 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born on 6 September 1931 in Kane, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Margaret Shortt Swanson. He graduated from Kane High School in 1949, and joined the US Navy the same year.
He did Navy basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, then was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Florida, where he trained to be a jet engine mechanic. After his training, he transferred to Naval Air Station Quonset Point in Rhode Island. In 1952, through mutual friends, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Dearman. They married in 1953, beginning their more than seventy years together. After leaving military service, he decided to move his young family back to his home town. There Bill worked numerous places, including as a machinist at Stackpole Carbon Company, and later in maintenance at the Ceramagnet Division. But the job he retired from he loved the best, a Kane Area School District Middle School custodian.
Carl S. Burrous, age 93 of Westfield, PA passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. Per Carl’s wishes no services are to be held. Arrangements are in the care of Kenyon Funeral Home, Inc.
Thomas Eugene Dalton, 80, of Kane, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 21, 2024. May his legacy of dedication, love for family, and passion for teaching and coaching live in the hearts of those who knew him.
Thomas, better known as Tom, was born to Bertrand and Frances Gustafson Dalton on March 13, 1944, in Kane. He was the youngest of four children. Tom was a 1962 graduate of Kane Area High School. He was an outstanding Kane High Athlete, and his love for the game (Football, Basketball, and Baseball) was a part of him until the end. Tom had a remarkable baseball legion career with a hit off Sparky Lyle (who later pitched for the Yankees), which gave him a record-setting game-hitting streak. Those were some of his greatest moments and memories to retell. Tom’s love for sports carried on while His passion for athletics stayed with him throughout his career as a teacher and, more importantly, a coach to many of the Kane High Athletes.
Tom graduated from Clarion University with a master’s degree in education and became a brother of Sigma Tau Gamma. After entering the work force, he was a dedicated World Culture and American History teacher, a beloved Golf and Football Coach, and the Kane Area High School Ski Club founder. Throughout his career, he impacted the lives of many students and colleagues both on and off the field and in the classroom. Once retired from teaching, he went on to assist young adults transitioning out of the foster care system.
Tom’s greatest impact was his significant role in the lives of Madigan, Katie, and Rhys. He was present not only as “Grandpa” but also as their biggest fan, supporter, encourager, and male role model.
Outside work and after retirement, Tom enjoyed hobbies such as golf and pickleball, attending various sporting events, walking his dogs, and spending quality time with his family and friends. From time to time, you could find him volunteering at Bradford Regional Medical Center, visiting friends at Futures Rehabilitation Center and the Lutheran Home in Kane, socializing at Texas Hot with “the guys” on Saturday mornings, and enjoying gatherings at the Kane Senior Center. He was a long-time member of both St. Callistus Catholic Church (while living in Kane) and St. Bernards Catholic Church (while residing in Bradford) where he served as commentator, greeter, and a was a former member of Knights of Columbus. Tom was an avid member of Kane Country Club, a life member of Kane
Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge #329. He found joy in staying busy, social and cherished shared moments with loved ones.
Tom fought quite the fight with Alzheimer’s, and ultimately, Liver/Kidney Failure took over that fight for him and won. Despite the issues and struggles with memory, Tom never lost sight of his all-time favorite football plays, his love for the game both on and off the field, the court, and the course. His sense of humor remained through all the ups and downs.
Surviving are daughters, Tricia Dalton of Bradford, PA; Julie (Brad) Butters of Maryville, TN; and Amy (Bryan) Ashcroft of Kane, PA; grandchildren Curtis (Michelle Meacham), Madigan (Justin Kieffer), Katie, and Rhys; two bonus grandsons, Mason and Kaden; sister Mary Ann (Pat) DeMarte of Okemos, MI; and five nephews and two nieces. Tom was predeceased by his Parents, Sisters Martha Jones and Joan Brown, Nephew Steve Jones, and Granddaughter Destiny.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Cummings Funeral Home, August 25 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 26 at11 :00 AM at St. Callistus Catholic Church, with the Rev. William O’Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Callistus Cemetery.

Gordon Leary Vogt, Sr., 91, of Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA early Friday morning (August 23, 2024). He was born May 28, 1933 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Gordon Anthony and Genevieve Leary Vogt.
Gordon graduated from Emporium High School in 1951 and began his collegiate career at the US Naval Academy serving on the USS Wisconsin. He graduated from Clarion University in 1957.
Francis N. Peterson “beloved father, grandfather, and brother”
Francis N. “Pete” Peterson, 86, of Steamburg, passed away with his loving family by his side, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in Cuba Memorial Hospital, Cuba, NY.
Born on Thursday, March 17, 1938 in Port Allegany, PA, he was a son of Norman S. and Evelyn E. Franklin Peterson. On August 15, 1957 in Allegany, NY, he married Nancy J. Tyler, who passed away on April 6, 2013.
Pete was a graduate of Randolph (NY) Central School, Class of 1956. He was a US Navy veteran.
Pete was employed for many years at Bordens, which later became Alcoa, in Randolph, retiring in 2000.
He was a member of American Legion Post #0001. He enjoyed hunting. Pete was an accomplished musician, having played the bass guitar, the mandolin, and the Dobro, in many local bands. His greatest love was his family.
Left to cherish his memory are a son, Patrick M. “Pat” (Kim) Peterson of Lake Stevens, Washington; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Diane Peterson of Texas; two sisters, Norma J. Starnes of Portville, NY and Dawn L. (Rich) Demmon of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Pete was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey A. Peterson; a daughter, Jennifer Monica Peterson; and a brother, Gary D. Peterson.

Rebecca Ann Botens, 75, of Lantana, Texas and a former Cuba New York native passed away at home Tuesday, August 20, 2024 after short illness.
Born on November 7, 1948, in Cuba, she was a daughter of Jerold C. and Ethlyn H. Muckey Warner. She was married to Thomas R. Botens.
Rebecca was a graduate of Cuba Central School. After high school she started working for Barbara’s Flowers and then opened Becky’s Flower Shop and owned and operated that business until she moved to Texas in 1978. While in Texas she worked for several local flower shops, but retired as the manager of the Lewisville Flower Shop in Lewisville, Texas. She received many awards during her career from FTD for her flower arrangements and design.
Once she retired, she bought a home in Lantana, Texas and enjoyed her time there. She also enjoyed artwork and drawing.
Edith M. Michielson, 96, of Smethport, passed away Thursday (August 22, 2024) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
She was born February 8, 1928 in Bath, NY, the daughter of Paul and Mabel (Benjamin) Hess. She was first married to Ivan Bickford, then to George Clark, and lastly to Conrad Michielson. She was preceded in death by all three husbands.
Edith attended Farmers Valley and Smethport area schools. She had worked for Reed’s Jewelers in Olean, NY and retired from the McKean County Courthouse in the domestic relations department.
David A. Schneider, 63, of 120 Fairview Road, Kersey, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at his residence following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Sally J. Crandall Vavala, 74, of Boone Mountain Road Kersey, PA, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born May 6, 1950 in Westfield, New York to Clyde and Lois (Wester) Crandall.
Sally graduated valedictorian of Sherman Central High School in 1968. She received her Bachelor’s degree (1972) in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego, her Masters Degree (1974) and Doctorate of Philosophy in Human Development and Family Studies in 1982 from the Pennsylvania State University one week before giving birth to her third child.
Sally was an assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State University, DuBois campus for 25 years. She was the faculty advisor for the HDFS club and the head of her department for many years and was also the pianist for the Penn State DuBois Choir. Sally was the organist for the Grace Episcopal Church, Ridgway, for over 30 years.
Shirley J. Fairman, age 95 of DuBois, PA died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at The Fountains at DuBois.
Born on October 25, 1928 in Bitumen, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Cora Belle (Sommerson) Nesman
She married Ernest E. Fairman. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Shirley was a lifelong member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, first Tamarack and then in DuBois. She was very active in missionary work , both here and abroad. Shirley raised African violets, was an avid knitter, loved crocheting, and enjoyed working in her garden. Above all, she was a very loving mother who cared deeply for her family.
Shirley is survived by her children (Ernest “Pete” Fairman and Mark Fairman and his wife Debra, both of DuBois, PA, Brenda Grossman of Las Vegas, NV, and Carol Fairman of Columbia, SC), numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, and one step great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers (Harry, Herb, and Howard Nesman), and one sister (Betty Hayes).
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 2 – 4 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 11 AM from the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Ward officiating.
Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery.

Carol J. VanHorn, 62, of Bradford, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at her home.
She was born on October 29, 1961 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Charles and Nancy Work Moonan.
She is survived by two daughters, Christy Moonan of Reynoldsville, Cherra Richardson of Bradford; one son, Heath Moonan of Bradford; four sisters, Sherry Noll, Debbie Joichin, Joyce Woodruff and Teri Moonan; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bonita R. HARRISON, 76, of Whitesville, NY, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
Born May 24, 1948, in Hornell, she was the daughter of Lawrence A. and Vesta I. Dennis Whitsell. A graduate of Greenwood High School, she was a hairdresser in Greenwood. Bonnie enjoyed baking birthday cakes for her family and the community, making plastic canvas, sewing, and collecting dolls.
Theodore G. Schieler (Ted), born February 9th, 1940 in Olean, NY to the late John and Millie Schieler, passed away August 10, 2024 after dealing with a short illness of Alzheimer’s. He had six sisters and two brothers who are all deceased.
Theodore was born and raised in Olean, N.Y. and married the late Audrey Sweigart on April 15, 1963. They had two sons Dennis (Becky) Schieler, of Georgetown Tx.) and Theodore (Rhonda) Schieler(Holiday, Fl.). They had 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Michele M. “Mickey” Milks 63, a loving wife, mother, nona, and sister, of 38 Cross Drive, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, NY, surrounded by her loving husband, four daughters, and her sister.
Born on November 19, 1960, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Dino V. and Anne (Weber) Vecellio. She was a 1978 graduate of Bradford Area High School.
On January 7, 1983, in Bradford, she married Carl L. Milks, who survives.
Joanne L. Beveridge, 91, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 545 Wolfel Avenue, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
She was born February 20, 1933, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Walter W. and Marjorie Holland Renwick. She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1950, and employed at Penn Bank where she retired in 1995.
On April 23, 1955 in Sacred Heart Church, Joanne married the late John D. “Jack” Beveridge, who preceded her in death on November 6, 1993.
Joanne is survived by two daughters: Patricia Ann Stauffer (Dennis) and Amy Louise Timm (Frank) both of St. Marys; two sons: David John Beveridge (Lynn) and John Thomas Beveridge (Debbie) both of St. Marys; nine grandchildren: Jacquelyn Brem, Devin Stauffer, Stephanie Anderson, Meghan Eckert, Gina Pistner, Marty Timm, Craig Timm, Andrea Rodich, and Dana Forster; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Steven J. Renwick (Carol) of Middletown, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Saines and brother, Kenneth Renwick.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and donated her time at the United Way and Christian Food Bank. Joanne enjoyed her time at camp and spending time with her family. Her life revolved around her family especially her grandchildren. She was always interested in their activities and ongoing commitments.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Cheri (Cheryl Ceriola) Taylor, 76, of Warren, PA., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2024, with her family at her side.
She was the daughter of Angelo J. Ceriola and Bernadine Graham Ceriola Goyda. She was married to the late David Taylor of Corry, PA., for 46 years, until his death in 2013. Cheri was a 1966 Warren High School graduate and completed several educational courses for advancement in her professions.
Donald D. Morey, Sr., 85, of Smethport, passed away Tuesday (August 20, 2024) at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.
He was born February 23, 1939 in Coudersport, the son of Albert and Grace (Davey) Morey. On March 28, 1964, in Austin, PA, he married Patricia J. Neely, who died February 26, 2008.
Don graduated from Coudersport High School in 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and went in to the U.S. War College at Carlisle, PA.
He served actively in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. He was in the Army Reserves from 1961 to 1964. He was honorably discharged as a SP4.
Don was a PA State Trooper from 1963 to 1985. He last worked as a Criminal Investigator Fire Marshall as a trooper. He then was elected as the McKean County Sheriff in 1985, holding that position until 2005. He continued as a Deputy Sheriff from 2006 to 2008. He proudly served his country, state and county for 50 plus years. He was the longest serving Sheriff in McKean County history.
Diane E. Schoonover “Loving wife, mother, and grandmother”
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA – Diane E. Schoonover passed away suddenly Tuesday. Aug. 20, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. Diane was born November 11th, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA and lived most of her life in Shinglehouse, PA. She was the daughter of the late Reuben and Georgia Donovan. She married the love of her life, Fay Schoonover on July 19th, 1966, who survives.
John W. HAMILTON, 64, of Wellsville, NY, died Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Born December 1, 1959, in Buffalo, he was the son of John F. and Frances Santaniello Hamilton. John was a graduate of Kenmore East Senior High School in Tonawanda. He was interested in home improvement from a young age which grew into operating Hamilton Home Repair & Handyman Service. John was an avid Bills fan. A jokester, he always tried to bring a smile to everyone he encountered. Moving to Belmont in 2004, he enjoyed living in the country, hunting, and always aspired to be a farmer.
Joe C Haggard, 80, of Port Allegany, passed away Monday (August 19, 2024) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 1, 1944 in Science Hill, Kentucky, the son of Joseph O. and Bonnie C. (Dowell) Haggard. On August 21, 1963 in Martinsville, IN, he married Clara A. Norton, who survives.
Joe was a self employed mechanic and tow truck operator. He enjoyed restoring old cars, hunting and fishing. He loved the time he spent with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons; Tim (Barbara) Haggard and Joe (Patti) Haggard both of Port Allegany PA,. Three daughters; Donna (Roger) Veilleux, of Mt. Jewett PA, Connie (Bob) Blose, of Holland NY, and Debbie (Randy) Pesock, of Roulette PA.
Twelve grandchildren; James, Terrick, Camron, Nichole, Robert, Rosanne, Melissa, Jessica, Laura, Miranda, Joslynn and Kelly, and 19great grandchildren
Two sisters; Rita (Frank) Skillman, of Eldred PA and Dorothy (Norm) Lannanger,of Crosby PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Arvil and David Haggard and three sisters; Hattie Prosser, Anna Lou Haggard and Mary Elizabeth Shatley.
James Jay Armstrong After an extended Illness, James Jay Armstrong passed away Thursday, August 14, 2024 at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, New York. He was born February 20, 1952 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Jay Earl Armstrong and Louise Carolyn Armstrong (Unger).
James graduated from Pioneer Central School, Yorkshire, NY in 1970, from State University of Buffalo in 1987, and also attended State University of Geneseo for Real Estate Sales Training. He worked at Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna from 1973 to 1983, Pioneer Land Sales from 1983 to 1986, M J Peterson for a year, and Christopher Communities, Inc. After a long career, he retired from the New York State Housing Authority, Urban Planning and Renewal.
Brenda K. Sweet, 70, of 4250 Witter Road, Cuba, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2024 at Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born on May 5, 1954, in Olean, she was a daughter of Clarence F. and Lauretta (Pilon) Barrett, Jr. On January 16, 1993, in Cuba, she married Lanny A. Sweet, who survives.
Brenda was a graduate of Bolivar Central School and Jamestown Community College with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology.
She worked all of her career in the banking industry and retired from Fleet Bank in Cuba. She was also a part time bartender for the Cuba VFW Post 2721.
Barry L. HART, 79, of Gaines, PA, formerly of Lititz, died Saturday, August 17, 2024 in UPMC Williamsport.
Born August 9, 1945, in Columbia, PA, he was the son of John and Helen Gohn Hart. On August 20, 1965, in Lititz, he married the former Shireen “Sherry” Bealler, who survives. A machinist, he was employed by Woodstream from 1962 — 1967 and Machinery Products from 1967 — 1992. He owned and operated GAM Manufacturing in Lancaster from 1997 until his retirement. Barry was a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge, Masonic Auto Unit, and several bowling leagues. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, boating, water-skiing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and riding motorcycle.
Dorothy L. LITTLE, 87, of Rochester, NY, formerly of West Seneca, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2024 in St. John’s Home, Rochester.
She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Little, a native of Potter Brook, PA; her parents, Merle and Mary Kinney Damon; and two sisters, Patricia A. Fitch and Winifred E. “Winnie” Zeches. Surviving are: two daughters, Mary Grace Little and Karen Little, both of Rochester; two sisters, Muriel Archer of Thousand Oaks, CA and Loretta (Ron) Hiller of Fowlerville, MI; nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was an elementary school teacher in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Seneca and Faith Bible Church, Rochester. She served faithfully as a choir member and Sunday School teacher for many years. Her interests included baking and playing the violin.
Josephine Louise Erickson LeVan, 102, of Warren, PA., died on Saturday August 17, 2024, in the Warren Manor Nursing Home, Warren, PA., after an extended illness.
She was born In Warren, PA on April 11, 1922, and was the daughter of Charles and Mary Juliano Cardamore. Jo was a lifelong Warren area resident. She was a 1940 graduate of Warren High School. Jo was employed with the former New Process Company and National Forge Company, retiring from Warren State Hospital in 1988. She was member of St. Joseph R.C. Church. Josephine was a volunteer with W.C.A. Hospital, Jamestown, New York, Warren General Hospital and the Warren Senior Center.
