Bessie D. Dougherty, 83, of Galeton, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at The Green Home in Wellsboro, PA.
Born December 10, 1939, in Westfield, PA, she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Bessie (Dailey) Carlin. On December 30, 1967 in Fulton, NY, she married Peter Dougherty, who survives.
Bessie was an LPN and worked in the Healthcare industry for many years. Bessie enjoyed collecting stamps and coins.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Peter Dougherty, are one daughter Michelle (Kevin) Galton, Nunda, NY; two grandchildren; a sister, Faith Piraino, Dansville, NY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bessie was predeceased by three brothers, Duane, Glenn and Dale Carlin and four sisters, Grace Button, Sally Kludt, Loris Dixon and Avis Fry.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00am at the Lighthouse Community Church in Galeton. The Rev. Brent Baker will officiate.

Shawn D. Whitsell, 51, of Slack Hollow, Eldred, PA passed away on Sunday (Feb. 26, 2023) at the Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital.
Born on Jan. 4th, 1972, he was the son of Robert and Bonnie Smith Whitsell. On June 02, 2018, at the Duke Center United Methodist Church, he married his wife Marsha Blessing Whitsell, who survives.
Shawn was a 1990 graduate of the Otto-Eldred High School, and then went on to become a mechanic and handyman, he could fix anything. He loved hunting fishing, boating, driving race cars, working in the garage and fixing things for his friends and family. Shawn loved spending time with his wife and his many pets, and he especially loved his favorite dog Ms. Magoo.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his parents, Robert and Bonnie Whitsell of Eldred; one son, Christopher Maluchnik; one daughter, Heidi (Ronnie Ohlsson) Elliot; two brothers, Jason (Jhel) Whitsell, and Robin (Rachel) Whitsell; one granddaughter, Sophia Benson; two nephews, TJ and John, and one niece, Morgan.
Preceding him in death is one son, Edward Maluchnik in 2019.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation held on Thursday (March 2, 2023) at the Duke Center United Methodist Church from 4 to 6 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held immediately following at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Beth Rossler, pastor of the church, officiating.
Robert Charles Bair, MD, 103, of Wellsboro, PA passed away early Tuesday February 28, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
He was born January 14, 1920, in New Hope, PA, to Walter G. and Hazel (Horn) Bair. Dr. Bair graduated from New Hope High School in a class of 14 in 1938 from Franklin and Marshall College in 1947 and Jefferson Medical College in 1950.
His education was interrupted in 1942 when he served in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific. This service included assaults on multiple islands.
Following his graduation from medical college, Dr. Bair married Grace Conrad, and they shared 45 years of marriage until her death in 1995. Together they raised five children. Dr. Bair was very generous in his community and served on the Board of Directors of the Northern Tier Children’s Home, Board of Directors of Human Services Agency, President of the Wellsboro Community Concert Association, President of the Wednesday Morning Musicales (briefly), and was the Chief of Surgery at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial hospital until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1955 and had been very faithful serving as an elder, and singing in the choir. He was deeply proud of his family and he enjoyed staying close with the generations as they matured. Dr. Bair and his wife mentored and encouraged youth in the community often helping them obtain a college education.
Dr. Bair is survived by two sons: Robert C. (Sharon) Bair, Jr. of Wellsboro, and William E. (Kim) Bair of Cambridge, MD; three daughters: Susan Grace (Karl) Korbett of Acworth, GA, Sally (Laurent) Pillard of Ponthierry, France, and Nancy Bair of Wellsboro; 14 grandchildren: Steven (Callie), Nathan (Sarah), Evan, Kristen, Amanda, Alexia, and Collin Bair, Kelsey, Caleb (Kelsey), and Nevin Korbett, Emma, Dorian, Anne and William Pillard; a great-grandchild: Cade Korbett; two sisters-in-law: Marion Bair of Pennsburg, PA, and Eleanor Conrad of Reading, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Walter and Earl Bair, and a sister: June Minschwaner.

John Curtis Bloomquist, 77, passed away Monday (February 27, 2023) at the Lutheran Home in Kane, where he was a resident for nearly 17 years.
John was a well-known artist throughout the area and a retired elementary art teacher. He taught at the South Street Elementary School in St. Mary’s for 34 years. John graduated from Kane Area High School in 1963. He then graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (BA) and the Pennsylvania State University (MA).
For nearly 40 years, John operated Bloomquist Studio in Kane where he could be found making pottery or paintings on a daily basis. Over the years, many people would find their way to his studio to watch him work. This included school groups, Boy and Girl Scout troops, as well as, many of his friends. Often, inspiring young artists would spend time at his studio refining their craft, as would dozens of neighborhood children whose mothers would surely rather their children make a mess in John’s clay room than their living room. The more visitors the merrier for John. He loved the company and loved to entertain.
John would take his artwork to art shows throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Over the years John won hundreds of awards and many “Best of Show” awards for his pottery, paintings, and sculptures. John was an inspiration for many local artists who he in turn admired for their artwork. While a resident in the Lutheran Home, John was a committee member for the annual Art in the Wilds art show held every year in Evergreen Park. In 2014, the Pennsylvania Senate awarded John with a Lifetime Achievement award as a master potter, art teacher, and advocate of artists.
Over the years, John was a member of community groups, such as the Kiwanis and the Kane Players. John was also a lifetime member of the Kane Elks Lodge.
In 1967, John helped prove the theory opposites attract when he married Cheryl Ann Holt, who survives. Cheri could be seen almost every day sitting by John’s side at the Lutheran Home. John was a loving husband and even a better father to his two kids, Jody (Libby) Bloomquist of Kane and Karin (Jason) Dickens of Greensboro, NC, who both survive. John was not only a great dad, but his kids had many friends who also enjoyed spending time with John throughout the years. At most events, even in his years at the Luther Home, John was known to be the life of the party.
John was preceded in death by his parents Seth and Catherine “Babe” Bloomquist who owned Bloomquist Grocery in Kane, where John learned his work ethic. John is survived by his brother Seth (Mary) Bloomquist of Kane, and sister Cathy Lebed of San Luis Obispo, CA. Also surviving are grandchildren Karson and Kylie Dickens, as well as, nine nieces and nephews.

Timothy D. Snyder, 64, of Shawmut Road, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his residence.
On November 16, 1958, he was born the son of the late Harold and Amelia Walker Snyder.
Timothy was a loving and caring brother, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed spending his time talking on the phone and keeping up with every ones life.
Timothy is survived by 3 brothers: Donald and his wife Sherrie of Freeport, Delmar Snyder of Brockport, and Terry Snyder and his wife Yvette of Brackenridge, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters: Joyce Bowser, Loraine Cousins, Arlene Detsch, and Donna in infancy.

Dr. Wm David Close, 77, of Bradford, died on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at his home.
David taught school in Southampton, NY, New York City and Brockport, NY. He also did substitute teaching in the Bradford School District. He taught several subjects; including history, physical education, developmental reading and special education. David also coached basketball, soccer and baseball.
While teaching in New York City, David coached with Bill Polian, who is now in the football hall of fame. David played rugby and semi-pro basketball while living in New York City. While in high school, David played several sports and was named to the district nine first team and the Big Thirty All Star team in basketball. David earned a Bachelor of Science at West Virginia University, a Master of Science at St. Bonaventure University and a Doctorate of Science in Cognitive Studies. He has also written several books including: Deadly Woods I, Deadly Woods II, Between Classes, Three Reading Plays for Children and several books of poetry, the latest being Provoking Pathways. David also created a local sports paper in Bradford called, “Around the Horn”.
David belonged to several clubs in Bradford and enjoyed reading, writing, walking, playing golf and having beers with his friends.
He is survived by one son, Arick (Erika) Close of Bradford; one daughter, Corrine Close of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Penny (Ron) Filler of Vero Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Mason and Alyson Close and Teagan Johnson and two nephews, Matt and Mark Filler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and June Close and his long-time companion, Joanie Lyons.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc. from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Klouw, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery, Limestone, NY.

Harold E. Nolt, 72, of a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Harold’s final arrangements are incomplete and will be announced with a full obituary. His family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
Stanley E. Kephart was born May 1st, 1929, to William & Bessie Kephart in Emporium, PA.
In 1949, he married Elvira Hollett and together their raised their family of five children in Tillamook, OR. Stan was a hard worker and to support his family he founded what’s now known as Kephart’s Painting.
Stan had many hobbies such as fishing and hunting, throwing horseshoes, playing cards, and working in his bountiful garden which he was very proud of. You were always able to find fresh fruit, vegetables, and dahlias which he was more than happy to share.
Stan passed away in McMinnville, OR on February 21, 2023, with family by his side.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira Kephart, and son, Jim Kephart. Stan leaves behind to honor his life his sister Mary Gersch. His children, William Kephart and wife Sandy, Daniel Kephart and wife Jennifer, Timothy Kephart and wife Tami, Sherry Weir and husband Mark, and Daughter-in-law Bonnie Kephart, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Waud’s Funeral Home on Saturday March 11th, 2023, at 1:00 PM. followed by a Celebration of Life Potluck at the Alderbrook Hall immediately after.

Ruth E. “Boodie” Burfield, 101, of Ridgway, died on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
On September 7, 1921, in Ridgway, she was born a daughter to the late Charles H. and Emma Prowbst Sherwood.
In 1942, she married the late Donald R. Burfield, who preceded her in death in 1973.
Boodie was a lifelong resident and a member of Faith United Church of Christ. She was well traveled and loved taking trips with her son. Boodie enjoyed sitting on her porch feeding the birds.
Ruth is survived by 4 nieces: Beverly Jescheling of AZ, Cathy Marczewski of WI, Nancy Daily and her husband Pat of WI, and Linda Stather and her husband Doug of FL, 2 nephews: Don Sherwood and his wife Gina of Ridgway and Bob Sherwood and his wife Nancy of MI.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert G. Burfield, and 3 brothers: Charles, Ralph, and George Sherwood.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Angela Mary Tegzes, 58, of Brooklyn House, Mary Lloyd Services in Mansfield, passed away Monday February 27, 2023 in the Troy Community Hospital. She was born August 4, 1964 in Pittsburgh, PA to George and Katherine (Paulin) Tegzes, Jr. She attended the Clelian Heights School for Exceptional Children, and worked for Highland Chocolates and Partners in Progress. Angela was very involved in Special Olympics, and loved music and dancing.
Angela is survived by two brothers: George Tegzes of Panama City, Panama, and Jeffery (Abbe) Tegzes of LeNoir City TN; and four sisters: Katherine Hughes of Gibsonia, PA, Barbara (Allan) Urbanic of El Sabrante, CA, Anne Peters of Midway, KY, and Elizabeth (Don) Hummel of Wellsboro. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister: Mary Susan Batchelor.

Jeanette “Jean” D. Weber, 80, of Smethport, passed away Wednesday (February 22, 2023) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
She was born December 4, 1942 in Bronx, NY, the only child of Wilhelm Weber and Lydia Werner Weber Gross. Jean would go onto inherit her father’s sweet tooth as he was a professional baker and often times would arrive home with a bag of sweet confections as Jeannie was getting ready for school.
As an only child, Jeannie was left to entertain herself. She made friends easily as both a youth and an adult. Her light hearted demeanor and lust of entertaining others came very naturally. She could spend endless time and money at the ‘dollar day’ buying toys and other trinkets that made Jean giggle.
After High School Jean worked a variety of jobs including taxi cab driver and bartender to name a few. She then put herself through night school and graduated from Hunter College in New York City. Her degree would lead her to a career in teaching. She worked in New York, Massachusetts and finally Florida. Her final tenure of teaching was one she truly enjoyed, working with vocational students in the Sarasota Public Schools.
Jeannie had two great loves in life; opera and her partner Shirley Ostrander. Her love of opera began early on and she was a regular at the MET. She not only enjoyed listening to many opera greats, but often could be found backstage after a performance. Her natural talent of the written word would lead to many articles about operas and the artists to be published throughout the years. This would lead to ‘letters to the editors’ in her later years, as Jean always had an opinion on matters.
Life took Jean from the east coast, then she drove her puke green VW Beatle to the west coast and lived there for several years to ultimately land in Florida. This is where she would meet the love of her life, Shirley Ostrander in 2000. Shirley & Jean were a pair like none other, full of love and laughter. Shirley predeceased Jean in December 2022, only to have Jean join her the day before her birthday. Celebrations surely ensued.
Jean is survived by a small chosen family; Mary and John VanMarter, Ed Vicic, Amber Nelson, Denise Bowers and Deb Nelson. And of course, not to be forgotten, one of her four beloved puppies, “Panda Soleil”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving companion, Shirley Ostrander on December 12, 2022. Along with three of her fur babies; “Bernard”, “Bijou” and her most special “Byron”.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany. Mary Lorena Groover, age 74, passed away February 27, 2023, at her home in Westfield, PA.
Born August 24, 1948, in Wellsboro, PA she is the daughter of Robert and Janet Slocum. Susie, as everyone knows her, married her husband Kenny on July 3, 1970, and together they joined their families.
Susie graduated from Cowanesque Valley High School and worked at Electric Cord Manufacturing for many years. Together Susie and Ken owned K & S Custom Butchering in Westfield, PA.
In her younger years you would have seen Susie roller skating or riding a motorcycle. She enjoyed bowling with her Electric Cord coworkers, hosting gambling trips to Atlantic City, having bonfires with her family, and hosting Halloween parties for her grandchildren. For years she coordinated the Cathead Reunion for her home community of Sabinsville, PA.
Susie loved spending time with her close friends going to lunch and hearing the good gossip. Susie also loved going to the races to watch her favorite drivers, son-in-law Billy Van Pelt and grandson Dillon Groover. Susie was an incredibly selfless spirit and keeper of animals both domestic and wild. Additionally, Susie was the most amazing Chauffer for wine tastings around the lake, she sure had patience. She will be particularly remembered for her witty one-liners; her sense of humor was infectious.
Those in heaven waiting for her are her husband Ken, parents Robert and Janet, grandson Justin Ruhf and brother-in-law Pete Van Druff. Those remaining to remember her resilient spirt and love are her fur companions; Buddy, Callie and Tippy, her siblings; sister Carol Van Druff of Hallsport, NY and brother Robert (Cindy) Slocum of Wellsville, NY, her children; Duane and Sally (Sally Bell) Groover of Beaver Dams, NY, Steven and Nancy McNett of Huntsville, AL, Tammy and Chris Ruhf of Montrose, PA, Kim and Louie Marzo of Osceola, PA and Susan and Billy Van Pelt of Westfield, PA. Susie has seven grandchildren and one grand pup; Khristina Groover of Syracuse, NY, Dillon Groover of Corning, NY, Amber Halverson of Pensacola, FL, Cortney McNett of Huntsville, AL, Cassie Belcher of LeRaysville, PA, Kristyn Ruhf of Noxen, PA, Sierra and Kendra Marzo of Elkland, PA and Great Dane Grandpup Tank. The family has been blessed with five spirited great grandchildren. Additionally, Susie has supportive and kind in-laws and nieces and nephews. Additional love and support has been provided by Luan Kowalski and Bobbi Jo Williams.

Clarence S. “Stew” Johnson Jr., 73, of Oak St. Ext. in Kane, passed away Friday (Feb. 24) at UPMC-Hamot. He was born Feb. 27, 1949 in Kane, the son of the late Clarence and M. Joanne (Carlson) Johnson.
Stew had worked at Stackpole for many years, up until its closing in Kane. He also was a self employed photographer and after he retired he cooked at the Moose club. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and spent over 18 months in Guam.
He is survived by one daughter, Heather (Chad) Raught; two brothers, Neil (Dee) Johnson and Rodney (Muriel) Johnson, both of Ludlow; four sisters, Mary Carol (Greg) Rich of Indiana, PA, Jackie (Bud Bifano) Johnson of Shippenville, Barbara (John) Hetrick of Kane and Julianne (John) Horton of Kane; two granddaughters Caliann and Cara Kribbs; and one step granddaughter, Raeann Raught and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca Johnson and two brothers, Thomas “TJ” Johnson and Roger “RJ” Johnson.

Hulda V. McCUTCHEON, 95, of North Bingham, PA, died Saturday, February 25, 2023 in her home.
Born July 19, 1927, in Whitesville, NY, town of West Union, she was the daughter of Clifford and Selynda Wallace Frost. On December 18, 1960, in Whitesville, NY, she married Ronald J. McCutcheon, who predeceased her on October 15, 2014. A 1946 graduate of Whitesville Central School, she was employed by Smith of Galeton Glove. Hulda was a member of the North Bingham Community Church.
Surviving are: five children, Steven (Darcy) McCutcheon of North Bingham, Kevin McCutcheon of Harrison Valley, Douglas (Kathy) McCutcheon of Andover, NY, Diane (Gary) Wyne of Harrison Valley, and Roger (Georgie) McCutcheon of Ulysses; nine grandchildren, Jillian (Matthew) Baker, Veronica Hunt, Jesse (Amber) McCutcheon, Savannah Fanton, Jared (Michelle) McCutcheon, Kris Wyne, Dustin Wyne, Tory McCutcheon, Garette (Chance) McCutcheon; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Betty) Frost of Wilmington, NC and Robert E. Frost of Waneta Lake, NY; sister-in-law, Frances Frost of Lampasas, TX; nieces and nephews.

Roger D. Grover, 63, of Smethport, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, February 24, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Born May 12, 1959, in Wellsville NY, he was a son of the late Lyle and Mary K. (Umiken) Grover.
On August 14, 1982, in the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, he married Georgia (Mott) Grover who survives.
Roger had been employed at Bush Industries in Jamestown NY for many years. He also formerly worked at the Ice Cream Factory in Dunkirk, NY, Monago’s Flooring in Bradford, as well as a rural route delivery man for the Bradford Era.
He enjoyed fishing, and attending demolition derby’s.
Surviving in addition to his wife Georgia of 40 years, is one brother, Lyle (Jill) Grover, step siblings, John (Chris) Farum, Cindy Grover, and Donna Ekas, his mother in law Patricia Mott, and two uncles, Forest and Nicholas Battles, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Ethelyn J. Grover-Mayer, brothers, Michael, Clarence, James and Craig Grover, one sister Paula Grover, and one stepbrother, Calvin Grover.

Smethport – Adda M. Brace, 86, of Bradford, formerly of Cyclone, PA passed away Thursday (February 23, 2023) at The Pavilion at BRMC, Bradford.
She was born February 12, 1937 in Olean, the daughter of Manley and Alma Wixon Brace.
Adda was a 1955 graduate of Smethport High School and worked in the offices of Graef Cutting & Co. of Buffalo, NY.
She was a former member of the Cyclone Free Methodist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Lee E. and Ralph A. Brace, along with three sisters; Alta L. Kauffman, Audrey J. Brace and Phyllis M. Brace.
In keeping with Adda’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Virginia E. Canfield, 94, of Smethport, PA passed away Saturday (February 25, 2023) in Smethport.
She was born March 10, 1928 in Clermont, PA, the daughter of Willard and Mary Rice Rounsville. On May 11, 1946, in Smethport, PA, she married Sherman E. Canfield, Jr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Canfield worked most of her life as a hired house cleaner, but ultimately was a home maker tending to the needs of her family.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport.
She is survived by three daughters:
Bonnie D. Stringer of Smethport, Connie C. Ferris of Bradford, and Diana L. Ewing of Mt. Jewett
Three grandchildren and six great grandchildren
One brother: Richard Rounsville of Smethport
And several nieces and nephews

Margaret J. “Peg” Salada, 88, of Shinglehouse, PA passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, after a long illness.
Born on Sunday, January 27, 1935 in Helvetia, she was a daughter of Andrew and Florence Reagle Sulin. On July 21, 1951 in Harborceeek, she married James L. Salada, who passed away on October 15, 2006.
Peg attended the Helvetia Company School in Helvetia. She was first employed on the John Gresh farm in Girard. In June of 1971, Peg along with her husband and family, moved to Shinglehouse, owning and operating a dairy farm, Salada Farms. They also ran a trucking company, Salada Farms Express in Shinglehouse.
Peg was a member of Grace Bible Independent Church in Shinglehouse. She was a member of the former Perry Highway Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed being around animals, taking care of the farm calves, bottle feeding and medicating them. She also enjoyed riding her tractor. Her greatest love was her family.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Bradley W. “Brad” Salada and Allen A. (Amber) Salada, both of Shinglehouse; three daughters, Gloria Jean (Robert) Boozer of Cochranton, Patricia Ann Salada of Bowman, SC, and Terri Lynn (Dave) Sliwinski of Stoneboro; seventeen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Bobby Ann) Sulin of DuBois; and several nieces and nephews.
Peg was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 55 years; a son, James K. Salada; three grandchildren, Tyler Boozer, Mason Boozer, and Carrie Boozer; and a brother, Al Joe Sulin.
Family and friends may call from 10am to 12 noon on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, 392 Coon Crossing Road, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 12 noon with Roger N. Hain, pastor emeritus of Black Creek Baptist Church, and Pastor Phil Seely of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be next to her husband in the East Sharon Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

June F. GRAY, 93, of Ulysses, PA, died Thursday, February 23, 2023 in her home.
Born June 29, 1929, in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Henry Jacob and Violet June Lambert Fox. She was married to Wilbur L. Gray, who predeceased her on August 28, 1991. June was employed in the cafeteria by the Northern Potter School District for 25 years. She was a 40-year member of the First Baptist Church of Ulysses, current member of the Gold Church, Tri-Town Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Ulysses Library volunteer, and served as a Potter County Hospice volunteer for 25 years. June was honored as Ulysses Citizen of the Year.
Surviving are: five children, Robert L. (Joann) Gray of Camp Hill, John A. (Mary) Gray of Hornell, NY, Wilbur H. (Sue) Gray of Middletown, Darlene Thompson of Ulysses, and Sandra (Hal) Dibble of Westfield; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald H. Fox of New Stanton; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Dibble.

F. Bruce Whitman, of Emporium, PA, sadly passed away on February 6, 2023, at the age of 83.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Goyt and Leroy Whitman and his daughter Missy Peterson.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Wertz Keeney Whitman also of Emporium, PA. He leaves behind his children, Michele (Faron) Clouser of Mechanicsburg, PA, Diane (Timothy) Williamson of Summerville, SC, David Keeney of Emporium, PA, Joseph (Heather) Whitman of Elizabethtown, PA, and Michael (Kelly) Whitman of Camp Hill, PA.
He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Cassandra Reigle, Bryan Williamson, Alex Williamson, Zachary Whitman, Elizabeth Cossaboon, Ashley Williamson, Meghan Keeney, Lexi Whitman and Tyler Whitman as well as five great-grandchildren, Jenalyse, Emerson, Briella, Xander and Millie and another on the way.
Bruce was born on May 11, 1939, in Carlisle, PA and was a member of the 1957 graduating class from Alexis DuPont High School in Delaware.
One of Bruce’s many talents was being blessed with the ability to put pen to paper and eloquently express anything and everything and as such enjoyed a successful career as a sportswriter for the Patriot News for thirty-three years. He was well known as an outdoors enthusiast and retired after 15 years serving as Assistant Director for the Information & Education Bureau of the Pennsylvania State Game Commission.
After officially retiring, he continued his love for the outdoors and writing when he relocated to Cameron County, PA and fulfilled his dream when he began writing for the Cameron County Echo, a position he held until his passing.
Bruce was a member of the Sinnemahoning Sportsman Club, American Legion, and the VFW.
In addition to his love for sports and the outdoors, he taught himself how to play bass guitar after retiring and became a member of a band.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the K.M. Knight Funeral Home, 31 Second Street, Highspire, PA. A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life following the service at the Penn Harris Gun Club, of which Bruce was a lifetime member, located at 201 Richardson Rd., Middletown, PA 17057.
John K. Parana, 89, of 326 Clarion Rd., Johnsonburg, PA died Thursday evening, February 23, 2023 at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
He was born on December 14, 1933 in Johnsonburg a son to the late Joseph and Anna Gluch Parana. On June 6, 1963 he married the love of his life, Karen A. Wensel and she survives.
John was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a Vitenam Era Army Vet serving as a PFC with the 54th NIKE Battallion at Ft. Meade and Aberdeen, MD and he also served 4 years in the Army Reserves.
John had worked for Russ Construction, PennTech Papers and as a draftsman for Stackpole Carbon Co. in Johnsonburg and St. Marys and was the street superintendent for Johnsonburg Boro until he found his dream job; He retired in 2002 after 30 years of service with the Pennsylvania DCNR where he was maintenance supervisor of Bendigo, Elk and Kinzua State Parks. He loved his job! He and his brother George also had a contracting business painting houses and siding and roofing houses.
John was a member of Holy Rosary Church and had been a member of Central Hose Co. where he was a fireman for many years and served several terms as president and vice-president. He had served two separate times on the Johnsonburg Borough Council. He loved camp, and the outdoors. Family was a Keystone in his life.
John is survived by his wife Karen at home, a son John W. Parana of Johnsonburg, three daughters; Kisa Tomaski and her partner Bart O’Leary, Trina, Mrs. Tom DeStephano and Teri Parana of St. Marys, 6 grandchildren; Morgan McDermott, Kyle McNeel, Tyler Tomaski, Vincent DeStephano, Shannon McKinney and Jacob DeStephano, 7 great-grandchildren and his special brothers; Edward George Parana of Wilcox and Thomas Parana and his wife Carol of Johnsonburg. A brother-in-Law Darrell W. Wensel and his wife Connie of State College and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by a brother Joseph Parana, sisters Annie Parana in infancy, Mary Ann Kreckel, Patricia Peterson, Helen Wickett, Agnes Manno and Kathryn Kocjancic, his uncle Paul Gluch a cousin Mary A “Bobo” Knapik and his in-laws Clarence and Ester Wensel.

Ruth Katherine Thompson, 100, of Coudersport, PA passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Cole Manor in Coudersport.
Born on Tuesday, February 20, 1923 in Colesburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Edgar Harvey and Katherine Anna Mosch Tucker. On June 11, 1944, she married Robert A. Thompson, who predeceased her in 2001.
Ruth had been employed at Eastman Kodak as a film inspector in Rochester, N.Y. for over 40 years before she retired to Colesburg, PA. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Ruth is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by two brothers, Franklin “Bub” Tucker and Edgar “Sonny” Tucker, of Coudersport; and two sisters, Marjory “Marge” Butz and Beatrice “Tootie” Clark, both of Coudersport.
A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date determined by the family and will be held at the Woodland Cemetery in Hebron.

Louise Smith, 95, of Covington, PA passed away peacefully with loving care and family by her side at The Green Home in Wellsboro, PA on February 23, 2023.
Louise was born June 30, 1927, in Leroy, PA to the late Ivaldia ”Val” and Helen Turner. She graduated from Covington High School where she met the love of her life, Chester H. Smith, to whom she was married from 1945 until his passing in December 2012.
Surviving daughters are Linda (James) Crosby, Lynchburg, VA; Barbara Smith (Kathleen Carico), Covington, PA; and Marilyn (Charles) Carlton, Verona, VA. Surviving brother is Jack (Mary) Turner of Covington.
She was preceded in death by two daughters: Connie Lee Smith in 1950; and Elaine (Thomas) Hazelton in 2018; and by a great-grandson, Dawson Clay in 2010; a sister Marie, and two brothers, Jim and Bob.
The 16 grandchildren are Scott, Michelle, Shaun, Lindsay, Lauren, Allison (Crosby); Brian, Julie, Matthew, Mark, Amanda (Hazelton); and Nathan, Jared, Justin, Will, and Logan (Carlton). She is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved and served them all with tirelessness and grace, leaving them and her friends with many happy memories.
Louise loved serving her Lord at both the Covington Baptist and Bakerburg Community Churches, playing organ for church services and numerous weddings and funerals for at least 65 years, a particularly special accomplishment not just for the length of time but because she was also self-taught and much requested.
Louise took over her father’s insurance business in the late 1960s when he was no longer able, and successfully ran it until she sold it and worked for that agency in Blossburg. Later, as township secretary she learned computing to do payroll and kept learning. Alongside all of that she created a warm home and assisted Chet with the auto business, horses, and beef cattle. Her community service included election board duty and running a notary public service from her home for many years.
Calling hours will be Saturday March 4, 2023, from 4 to 6 pm at Tussey-Moser Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA. A Memorial Service service will be on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA with Louise and Chet’s former pastor, Dave Dressler, officiating.
Daniel E. Hasney, 87, of Old Kane Rd. in Wilcox, PA passed away Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 22) at his residence.
He was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Wilcox, the son of the late John and Anna (Adams) Hasney. On April 30, 1960, in Wilcox, he married Donna Rolfe, who survives.
Mr. Hasney had worked at Penn Tech in Johnsonburg for 40 years. He then worked as a consultant for Asten Johnson for 18 years. He was a life long member of the Wilcox Sportsman Club and also the Wilcox American Legion where he currently was serving as 2nd Vice Commander. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener and he truly loved spending time at his camp.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Valerie (Carl “Scott”) Cook of Ridgway and Vicky (Bryan) Punk of James City; one son Lance Hasney of Wilcox; three granddaughters, Lisa (Jeffery) Jacobs, Amy (Patrick) Pistner and Alison (Michael) Matula; a step grandson, Michael (Hannah) Punk; a step granddaughter, Melissa (Ryan) Smith; a great-granddaughter, Sidney Pistner; a great-grandson, Remy Pistner; a step great-granddaughter, Kenna Punk; a step great-grandson, Nolan Punk, and a great great-granddaughter, Addison Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Joseph, Lawrence and Francis Hasney.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass which will take place on March 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St Anne’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Wilson, as celebrant. Burial with military honor’s will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
