Mountain Laurel Recovery Center is expanding and searching for qualified and caring staff to Improve The Lives We Touch! We are hosting on-site interviews during the week of August 7-11th between the hours of 10am & 2pm. Interested candidates may arrive in-person on the designated days listed to interview with our respective hiring managers. While not necessary, we encourage applicants to apply ahead of time.

Volunteer drivers are needed
Volunteer drivers are needed in the Bradford/Smethport areas to transport American Veterans to their doctoring needs/appointments.
Vehicles and gas are provided by the Erie VA Medical Center with minimal training.
Your cost is your volunteer time to transport the vets to appointments in Erie, Cleveland, Warren, Jamestown, Meadville, and the Pittsburgh VA Center.

Senior Expo Monday at Coudersport Arboretum
There will be approx. 27 organizations/businesses that will be set up with info for older adults, as well as tables with information for veterans. Martin Causer is sponsoring a free lunch for those who attend. Many local businesses donated door prizes, which will be drawn throughout the day.
Life Saving Devices Available in Austin Communities

As part of an on-going fire and EMS safety program with the Austin Volunteer Fire Company, department members Kathy Brooks and Andy Bothell have co-chaired the program to obtain funds to purchase three automated external defibrillators (AED) for placement in the Austin community.
Brooks stated “when a cardiac arrest occurs, the heart stops abruptly with little or no warning.” Early recognition of cardiac arrest improves the person’s chance of survival and is key to starting the correct core of CPR and the appropriate use of the AED to restart the heart. CPR can help keep the heart pumping and blood flowing to vital organs until an electrical shock from an AED is available to restore the heart to a normal heart rhythm.
Bothell noted “many times cardiac arrests happen in public places and it is important to remember that as a bystander everyone’s actions can help.” Witnessing and responding to a cardiac arrest can be a very traumatic event. Having the right equipment available is much more reassuring to your community members in the event of an emergency. With today’s technology, an AED is very easy to use; anyone can operate it under any circumstance.
AED’s are intended for use by the general public—with or without specialized training.
Coudersport Area Soccer Association (CASA) In person registration will be held Monday July 31st
Sign up for fall soccer. For young people ages 5 to 12 (turning 5 or 12 this year 2023). Season begins September 9th through October 15th. Practices begin week of August 20th. Opening WCCA’s 2023-2024 Season on Saturday, Sept. 9 is Rory Block, a formidable slide guitarist, talented songwriter, and one of the world’s top female blues performers.
Now until Monday, Aug. 14, Wellsboro Community Concert Association (WCCA) season subscribers can opt for an “Early Bird Combo” package for $100 that includes six concerts for $75 ($12.50 per concert) and a seventh concert on Wednesday, Sept. 13 by Tusk – the World’s Number One Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band for $25 ($14 off the $39 ticket price).
“Our subscribers have been asking us to bring Tusk back to Wellsboro ever since this band’s two sellout performances in 2019,” said Russ Dodson, WCCA president.

On Saturday, Aug. 12, Hamilton-Gibson Productions is hosting the Second Annual Broadway Under the Stars Fundraiser Concert at Stony Fork Creek Campground at 658 Stony Fork Creek Road, Wellsboro.
The 90-acre campground is in Delmar Township, about 10 miles south of Wellsboro in the heart of Pennsylvania Grand Canyon country.
The Sherwood Motel and Canyon Motel are sponsoring the event.
CRCF accepting Mental Wellness Fund, Wagner Family Fund grant applications
The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Mental Wellness in Cattaraugus County Fund and Wagner Family Fund.
Applications for the Mental Wellness Fund will be due September 1. Applications for the Wagner Family Fund will be due September 30.
The online grant applications can be accessed at cattfoundation.org/grant-seekers/grant-opportunities/.
Grants from the Mental Wellness Fund support programs and services provided by nonprofits that support the mental wellbeing and mental health of residents in Cattaraugus County.
Grants from the fund typically range from $500 to $1,500, but up to $4,000 may be available for special projects, particularly those that impact vulnerable and/or disadvantaged populations.

Sizerville State Park Environmental Education Programs for the weekend of August 5th
Program Title: Beautiful Butterflies

Description: Join the park educator for a short talk on butterflies and their roles in our environments around us. There will be a walk afterwards to see what kind of butterflies we can find in the park! Wear sturdy shoes and feel free to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks. Nets will be provided.
