Acting Up!, Hamilton-Gibson’s readers theatre program for adults 55 and older, will start up again for the 2024-2025 season on Tuesday, September 10 from 2:00-3:00pm in the Deane Center for the Performing Arts, 104 Main St. 2nd floor, Wellsboro. Since its beginning in 2002, an ever-changing group of fun-loving senior citizens has gathered in Wellsboro on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from September through May to read stories, plays, and poems aloud.

Galeton had a very wet August thanks to 8 thunderstorms. Severe flooding took place in Westfield, Knoxville and surrounding areas. Pine Creek overflowed throughout the valley. Galeton suffered waterline damage and the town was without water for the most part of 2 days. The sewage line was broken in the area of Clinton St. Many homes had flooded basements which resulted in damaged furnaces and water heaters. Electricity was off for 4 hours which, of course, shut down basement sump pumps.  I have lived in Galeton most of my life and I have never seen flooding like this. River Street was under water. The school and lower Germania Streets were saved by the dikes. 
Many people have asked me “how much rain did we get”. Here is the answer to that question. The monthly rainfall total was 10.25″ Last year we received 6.82″. 

The major rainfall event occured with thunderstorms overnight on the 8th and early morning of the 9th. During that time I measured .84″ at 8am.  From 8am to noon we received 2,54″ for a total of 3.38″ . That was a lot of rain in that 4 hour period. Other parts of the northern tier received more. Iy rushed down the ravines and hollows taking out bridges, roads and buildings.

We only had 13 days without measurable rainfall.  We had 24 foggy mornings.  We had morning readings mostly in the mid 60s and the afternoons warmed up into the 80’s.
The mowing season is almost over. Next it will be leaf raking time. Of course everyone knows what follows that.
I will enclose a photo of the Galeton waterfall, Falling Springs. It once was one of the 3 or 4 sources for excellent water.

Three of six Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports teams opened their seasons over the weekend but came away winless.

At first-time foe Centenary University on Friday, Penn College bested the home team in shots on goal, 8-6, but couldn’t find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss.

The Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project seeks experienced male and female singers age 14 and up for this year’s Holiday Cabaret featuring unique tunes and holiday favorites in a festive cabaret atmosphere. Auditions are taking place Friday, September 13 at 6:30pm, Saturday, September 14 at 10:30am, and Sunday, September 15 at 1:30pm at The Warehouse Gallery 3 Central Ave., Wellsboro, and performances are December 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm – also in the Warehouse Gallery space in Wellsboro. 
This evening of holiday cheer is a 1940’s radio show style evening with an original script written by Lilace Guignard of Wellsboro. The story follows the events of a call-in radio show on Christmas Eve in the year 1940, and has lots of humor, heart, wartime news and local lore. Solos, duets and group numbers will be performed, along with period commercials and newsbreaks. 

            Ellicottville, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, will host the 2^nd Annual Pulse of the Community Gala on Friday, September 20.

            The event is presented by the Bradford Hospital Foundation and Olean General Hospital Foundation to unite to improve cancer care services in the region.  The black-tie event will run from 5:30 pm to 10 pm at Holiday Valley Resort’s main lodge with a rolling agenda. 

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in McKean County the week of September 2. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in McKean County for the coming week is as follows:

Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

• Route 6 at the POW/MIA Memorial Bridge spanning Potato Creek in Keating Township. Tuesday, September 3, and Wednesday, September 4. This work will take place on the shoulder with minor roadway encroachment. PennDOT urges drivers to use caution and be alert for workers on or near the roadway.
• Route 321 at a bridge spanning Mullin Run about six miles northwest of Marshburg. Thursday, September 5, and Friday, September 6. This work will take place on the shoulder with minor roadway encroachment. PennDOT urges drivers to use caution and be alert for workers on or near the roadway.
