Born in Kane, Pa., she graduated from Smethport High School in 1958. She graduated cum laude from Rider College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received the Award of Merit from its School of Secondary Education. She later earned a Master of Education degree from Lehigh University with certification as a reading specialist.

Barb devoted 26 years to teaching English and reading in the Central Bucks, Doylestown, Easton and Smethport school districts.

Her interests and talents extended beyond the classroom. At 17, she appeared in an off-Broadway production of “Bus Stop.” She sang with the Trenton Community Chorus and the Greater Latrobe Community Chorus. A member of Smethport United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and played in the bell choir.

Barb was the author of the memoir “Stranded in Montana; Dumped in Arizona,” which was favorably reviewed by Kirkus. For 25 years, she owned and operated Barbara’s Stars, specializing in vintage movie-star photographs. She was a member of the Smethport Lions Club and enjoyed collecting warm coats for children.

She enjoyed gardening, show tunes, crossword puzzles, and Mexican Train dominoes with dear friends Karen Hawn, Deborah Babcox and Deborah Tufts. She treasured Sunday visits with Tina Freer, the friend she loved like a daughter, and enjoyed spending time with family and her cat, Smokey.

She was preceded in death by husbands James Egloff and Frank Shackett, and her parents, Larry and Trudy Robey. She is survived by sister Penny Williams; brother Bryant Robey (Valerie); niece Barbara Stambaugh (Mark); and nephew Cody Snyder (Pam).
