The Allegany County-wide Trail Master Plan presents a comprehensive vision to guide the future planning and implementation of a county-wide network of public trails across Allegany County’s rural and mountainous landscape. The plan builds on previous local and regional planning efforts, community feedback, and stakeholder input to identify

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised a bridge replacement project continues on Route 14 in Trout Run, Lycoming County.

Motorists traveling on Route 14 in Lewis Township are reminded that Route 14 remains closed between the Route 15 north exit ramp (Exit 148) and Trout Run Mountain Road (Route 1002), while the contractor, Rylind Construction Company, Inc. continues construction of the bridge approaches and the removal of the temporary connector and traffic signals.

This portion of Route 14 will remain closed through Tuesday, October 28. The following detours are in place.

• Route 14 south to Route 15 north: Lycoming Creek Road (Route 1017) south, Route 15 north.
• Route 14 south to Route 15 south: Lycoming Creek Road south, Beautys Run Road (Route 3026), and Route 15 south.
• Route 15 south to Route 14 north: Route 973 (Exit 143), Lycoming Creek Road north, and Route 14 north.

Friendship, NY – At a recent get-together in Friendship, NY, the Allegany County Democrats collected 17 bags of non-perishable food and paper products for Mission Agape at the Friendship Church of God in Christ. This service project is one of the ways the Democratic Committee lives its motto: “Serving our Community.”

Friendship Church of God in Christ’s Mission Agape serves 30 to 40 families each month. “It’s hard knowing that families may not have all the necessities they need,” says main contact Lindsey Mwene, “so our pantry does our best to meet those needs. Having community members and organizations that are willing to donate food or personal care items helps us better meet the needs of the larger community.”

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the Highway Safety Network (HSN), and the Pennsylvania DUI Association partnered with Penn Highlands Elk and local law enforcement on Thursday to promote sober driving during the Halloween Impaired Driving Campaign.

Officers from Ridgway and St. Marys Police Departments, as well as the Elk County Sherriff’s Office spoke with participants about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving. 

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the installation of new signage at the intersection of Route 4004 (Front Mountain Road) and Peachey Road in Union Township, Mifflin County. This new stop condition will improve safety for the motoring public traveling through the intersection.

OLEAN, NY—Clara M. McMichael, 83, a longtime resident of Olean, passed away with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in the Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo.

Born on Thursday, May 28, 1942 in Covert, NY, she was a daughter of Ellis and Louise Wilkins Williammee. On August 2, 1959 in Valois, NY, she married James C. McMichael, who survives.

Clara was a graduate of Interlaken High School in Interlaken, NY. She held multiple administrative positions at Cornell University in Ithaca and later was employed at Mercy Hospital in Auburn. Clara retired from the Olean General Hospital in Olean, where she was a benefit coordinator. After retiring she kept busy by working at the Olean YMCA in daycare and had also worked in Human Resources administration.

BRADFORD, PA / OLEAN, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, will be hosting a community blood drives this October in partnership with ConnectLife, the region’s only community blood bank.

Captain Aaron Burkhardt, a 2014 graduate of Coudersport Area High School, has earned a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. Capt. Burkhardt is the son of Kelley Bennett of Coudersport, and Joe Burkhardt of North East, MD. He will serve as the Deputy Director of Operations for the Air Force Radiochemistry Laboratory at Patrick Space Force Base near Cape Canaveral in Florida.

BRADFORD – Two members of the Port Area Ambulance Service were recently honored for their outstanding service to the community, as Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) presented each of them with citations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Captain Jason Stake was recognized upon receiving the EMS Medal of Valor from Port Area Ambulance Service. While off duty, Stake witnessed a serious automobile accident and, without regard for his own safety, quickly approached a burning vehicle and helped the two occupants to safety.

Arlyn Smith was recognized for his retirement from Port Area Ambulance Service, concluding a career in emergency medical services spanning 33 years. During his career, he served as a paramedic in many communities, including Coudersport, Wellsboro, Emporium and Port Allegany, as well as in the state of New York.

“We owe each of these men a debt of gratitude for their commitment to serving our communities and protecting the health and safety of our residents,” Causer said.

The citations were awarded during a recent meeting of the ambulance service.

In his remarks Dave stated he was honored to present the Paul Harris award to two very deserving young people for “whom I have great respect.” Dave has done an outstanding job as Foundation Chair and was recently awarded a Paul Harris plus Four for his continued commitment to Rotary and helping others.

ALMOND, NY — Since 2021, the Allegany County Democratic Committee has cleaned up a section of State Rt. 21 in Almond, NY as part of the NYS Department of Transportation’s “Adopt-a-Highway” program. 

This year’s fall clean-up took place on Monday, October 13^th.   Volunteers collected numerous bags of trash, giving the roadway a much-improved appearance.  This project is just one of the many ways local Democrats “Serve our Community.” 

ACDC’s designated section incudes State Rt. 21 in Almond and the section of Karr Valley Rd. that leads to/from the expressway entrance.  It was specifically requested by the Committee because of its importance as a gateway to our county. This stretch of highway is heavily used by I-86 travelers on their way to the Alfred campuses or to recreational opportunities elsewhere in the area.  Volunteers from the Democratic Committee clean this section twice a year.
