Kane Man Charged In Eco-Terrorism Incident
McKean County District Attorney’s Office reports that, on May 29, 2023, Pennsylvania State Police-Lewis Run began an investigation into damaged tanks holding gas and crude oil on a lease on Forest Road, McKean County which caused leakage into the ground.
Trooper Andrew Eliason filed the above charges against James Andrew Morgan of Kane.
Magisterial District Judge Dominic Cercone arraigned MORGAN and set bail at $75,000 (straight). MORGAN was remanded to the McKean County Jail and is scheduled for central court on July 13, 2023 at the McKean County Courthouse.

MCCF announces Martin K. Henneman Memorial Scholarship Fund

The McKean County Community Foundation announced a new scholarship that will be awarded in the 2023-24 school year by the Martin K. Henneman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is available to a McKean County High School Senior or an adult learner who is a graduate of any McKean County High School. Applicant will be pursuing a post-secondary degree, certificate or license in the field of criminal justice, paramedic, EMT, police officer training or an emergency public servant.
The fund was established by the family and friends of Marty Henneman, husband, father, brother, friend, and hero, who passed away in 2022. He had a strong passion for providing service to others, caring deeply about the safety and protection of those around him and all he met. This scholarship, established in his name, honors his lifelong dedication to service.
Marty, a 1985 graduate of Wellsboro High School, enlisted in the United States Army and worked as a Military Policeman in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1987. He received the Army Service Ribbon, Army Medal Achievement, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge in rifles, grenades, and handguns. He then attended Mansfield University, majoring in Criminal Justice. In October of 1992, he enlisted at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. He worked all across Pennsylvania during his time in the State Police. He served as a Trooper, Fire Marshal, Corporal, Patrol Unit Supervisor, Crime Unit Supervisor, Staff Services Section Supervisor, Sergeant, and his final assignment was Station Commander as he retired in 2016.
Martin was an active supporter of his community. He was Chief Deputy Coroner of McKean County; former adjunct professor at Pitt-Bradford teaching criminal justice; former president and member of the Seneca Law Enforcement Association (SLEA); owner and operator of IOA Consulting, LLC, which provided training for self-protection and private investigation services; former member of the Rotary Club of Bradford and former member of the Bradford Area Choral Boosters. He was a man of many hobbies as well including hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, amateur radio operator, and spending time with his friends, family, and many Weimaraners.
The McKean County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Northern Alleghenies. The Foundation works with donors to help them support issues and organizations they care about, with nonprofits to offer grant opportunities to assist in their work and projects, and with students to administer scholarships that help them get the education they need. Michael I. Lunger, 54, of St. Marys, PA

Michael I. Lunger, 54, of St. Marys, PA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 7, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born on December 22, 1968 in St. Marys, a son of the late Edward and Florence Johnson Lunger.
Mike was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway. He worked as a mechanic for a number of years and then worked together with his late son, Deryk, at Penn Pallet. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He also liked spending time in his garage, mowing his lawn, and working in the apple orchard.
He is survived by his fiance, Laura Sorg of St. Marys, and by three siblings; Mark (Fay) Lunger of St. Marys, David (Diane) Lunger of DuBois and Diane (Ken) Wolff of Daguscahonda. He is also survived by 2 step-daughters; Thomasine Snelick and Michaela Sorg, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his only son; Deryk Lunger on December 30, 2021.
Family and friends will be received for a Memorial Gathering at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.

Causer to Host Senior Citizens Expos
BRADFORD – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) will once again host a series of Senior Citizens Expos to provide area seniors and their family members and caregivers convenient access to a wide range of information in one convenient location.
“This is a great opportunity for our senior citizens and their caregivers to connect with service providers here in the area,” Causer said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of what the expos have to offer.”
The events will be held as follows:
- Bradford: Friday, Aug. 4, at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Sports and Fitness Gymnasium, Campus Drive, Bradford.
- Kane: Friday, Sept. 8, at the Kane Community Center, 46 Fraley St., Kane.
- Roulette: Friday, Oct. 13, at the Roulette Fire Hall, 12 River St., Roulette.
Each event is free to attend and will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided and door prize drawings will be held at 12:30 p.m. at each event.
Causer is encouraging businesses, agencies and organizations that offer services to senior citizens to take part in the expo to connect with potential clients. Exhibitors share information about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, fire safety, financial planning, fraud protection, government services, hunting/fishing, personal safety and more. Health screenings will also be offered.

John J. Berne, 78, of Crosby, PA

Smethport – John J. Berne, 78, of Crosby, PA passed away Saturday (July 8, 2023) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
He was born October 31, 1944 in Port Allegany, a son of Anthony and Hattie (Lathrop) Berne, Jr.
John graduated from Smethport Area High School in 1962. He attended Clarion University where he received his B.S. and Master’s Degrees. He also attended St. Bonaventure University for additional education in administration. He also studied at Penn State University and Indiana University of PA.
John was a teacher for thirty-three years at Cameron County School District in Emporium. He received the “Teacher of the Year Award” at Cameron County in 1987-1988. Mr. Berne was a PMR for the U.S. Postal System for many years at the Crosby Post Office. Each year he awarded The John Berne Scholarship to a deserving young person to further their education.
John was a well known entertainer. He was an outstanding accordion player. He had played with several bands and was a Kravos recording artist. He played in both United States and Canadian venues. He entertained many Senior Centers and Nursing Homes over the years with his talent. He was aired on the radio with “The Hound”, 97.5 FM, with his “John Berne Polka Review”.
John held “Bernefest” at his camp, The Maples Inn, in Crosby, where many artists had performed. This includes “America’s Polka King”, Frank Yankovic, and “Canada’s Polka King”, Walter Ostenik.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, the Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, the North Central Pennsylvania Polk Boosters, the Cleveland Polka Hall of Fame, and the McKean County Fair Association, where he served as Treasurer, Vice president and President over the years.
He was also the Zone #1 director for the PA State Association of County Fairs, and the State Chairman for the PA Fair Queen Board. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, the Norwich Volunteer Fire Department, had served as a director for the Smethport Area School District and was a member of Mountain Music Productions. He also owned Twin Hearts Drive Inn of Crosby, PA.
He is survived by one son, Jason (Christy) Tessena of Crosby; one granddaughter, Chelsey Parris; one sister, Judy Abbey of Crosby; one brother, Robert (Audrey) Berne of Smethport; one Aunt, Elvida Stapulis and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral services will be held on Wed., July 12, at 10 AM, with the Rev. Joseph Daugherty, pastor of St. Elizabeth Church, officiating. Burial will be in Norwich Cemetery, Norwich Twp.

Introduction to Excel will introduce you to the program’s basic functions and uses. You will learn a number of shortcuts for setting up worksheets quickly and efficiently and will get tips on sorting and analyzing data. By the time you’re done, you will know how to use this important tool.
In Intermediate Excel, you will take a deeper dive into Excel’s capabilities, including learning about data analysis tools and how to create macros that allow the manipulation of data and eliminate repetitive tasks. If you use Excel regularly and want to learn more advanced functions in this powerful software, this class is for you.

Chad M. Willoughby, 40, of 206 Bolivar Drive, Bradford, PA passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his residence.
Chad was born in Bradford, on March 24, 1983, he was one of two sons to Ronald R. and Diane E. (Montuori) Willoughby.
He was a 2001 graduate of Bradford High School. After high school he began his employment at Futures where he worked for 15 years.
Chad had attended Open Arms Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents is one brother, Justin (Kristen) Willoughby, of Burleson TX, one nephew, Jake, three aunts, Karen Montuori, Barb Montuori, and Terri Lynn, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anthony and Eleanor Montuori, paternal grandparents, Jim and Nancy Willoughby and one uncle, Fred Montuori.
Family will receive friends on Saturday July 15, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Open Arms Church, funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Zoey Hatcher, officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
