Bradford, PA—In observation of September being Library Card Sign-up Month, BAPL has formed a partnership with the Bradford YMCA. With the assistance of Kelly Macklin, the Y’s Director of Membership Engagement & Wellness, an exciting opportunity has been created for all BAPL library patrons who have a library card.
“Library Days,” which runs Tuesday, September 5 – Friday, September 8, grants all library card-toting patrons’ access to the Y’s Kid’s Zone, pool, and gym! This 4-day event is a wonderful time for library patrons to explore the Y’s facilities for free.
Patrons may attend any day, at any time, during the Y’s normal operating hours. Any adult caregivers who bring a child to the Y, must also present their photo ID (the Y is required to run a brief background check).
Misplaced your library card?! No worries. Interested individuals can obtain a special pass/ticket from the BAPL Circulation Desk. Has a library card been removed from BAPL’s records due to inactivity? Again, no worries. Any individual who resides in BAPL’s service area is eligible to obtain a free library card. A valid photo identification and proof of address is all that is necessary to unleash the power of the BAPL library card.
Membership certainly has its perks! Just to name a few, owners of a library card can enjoy streaming free movies through Kanopy, download free eBooks, magazines, eAudiobooks while using the Libby app, expand their knowledge and gain new skills with online courses through Gale Presents Udemy, and access Ground News (an online news platform that allows readers to compare headlines of every news source in one place).
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card. A library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available. September is a wonderful time to get reacquainted with your local library! Today’s libraries offer communities so much more than books. Visit one today!
