Robert Carlson, 79, of N. Fraley St. in Kane, PA passed away Sunday (Feb. 4) at UPMC-Hamot. Born Aug. 6, 1944 in Kane, he is the son of the late William and Joyce (Jackson) Carlson.
Bob worked as a special education teacher for many years in the Otto-Eldred School District.

The Denton Hill Ski Patrol hosted a Western New York Region Senior Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Clinic today at Denton Hill. Thanks to all the Denton Hill Patrollers that came out and volunteered to make this event happen. We appreciate the Candidates and Staff that made the trek down to our Mountain. This turned out to be a very successful event and we are hoping to bring more Regional events to our hill. Special thanks go out to Denton Go, LLC and DCNR for helping us with the arrangements for using the Denton Hill Lodge!! We couldn’t have had a more perfect day.

TAK provides incident commanders and leadership with a number of situational awareness options, such as personnel accountability, route planning, aircraft tracking and awareness, drone video and imagery feeds, etc.
It’s user-friendly and not difficult to set up or use.
This will be a great option for the upcoming wildfire season; SAR, and LE ops, especially in wooded areas.
TAK is already heavily used by emergency services and law enforcement in other parts of the country. Help us integrate it here in PA.

Ernest Jack Johns, age 72 of Sabinsville, PA passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Born December 25, 1951 in Wellsboro, PA, he was the son of the late Francis David and Dorothy Rose (Horton) Johns.
Jack loved fishing and tinkering.

Vincent F. “Vinny” Kronenwetter, 83, formerly of Bona Vista Highway, Wilcox, PA passed away at Pinecrest Manor on Saturday, February 3, 2024 following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 5, 1940 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Vincent J. and Martha Dill Kronenwetter.
On October 23, 1965, he married the late Barbara Secco, who preceded him in death on November 6, 2008. Together they were blessed with more than 43 years of marriage.
Vinny was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1963-1965. He was a member of St. Callistus Church in Kane and worked for more than 44 years at Pure Carbon Company. He was also a member of the K of C in St. Marys. He loved hunting and fishing and could often be found tending to his garden. A friend to all, Vinny loved to stop and chat with the many friends he met in his travels. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Roulette—Daniel C. “Dan” Douglas, 47, of Fishing Creek Rd., passed away on Wednesday (January 31st, 2024) at home following a brief illness.
Born January 31st, 1977 in Olean he was a son of Michael Daniel and Judy JoAnn Yeaples Douglas.
Dan had resided in Connecticut, Indiana, Ohio, and Scranton prior to moving back to the local area. He spent his career in oil and water well services where he owned and operated Douglas Well Services for many years.
Mr. Douglas was an outdoor enthusiast, and greatly enjoyed camping and hiking, especially the Appalachian Trail, as well as operating a rig and welding. He was also active with the Allegany Mountain Engine and Implement Association. He was a kind-hearted loving person who would do anything for anyone.
Thomas M. “Tom” Anderson, 60, of Kersey, PA died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born on October 14, 1963, in Dubois, a son of Joyce Palmer Anderson and the late Ralph Anderson.
On October 2, 2023, he married the love of his life, Roxanne Uhl who survives.
Tom was a self-employed contractor and took pride in being a perfectionist. He liked to “putter” around, picking up sticks, collecting apples, and maintaining a beautiful yard. Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time sitting in the garage, talking to family, and being with his beloved dog, Willie.

Funding that was raised in 2023 is distributed via grant awards to eligible nonprofits in 2024. As a result of the 2023 campaign goal being achieved, the United Way board approved the following agencies for grant awards: Alcohol & Drug Abuse Services, Boys & Girls Club of St. Marys, Boy Scouts Bucktail Council, CAPSEA, Catholic Charities, Dickinson Center’s Crossroad Program and St. Marys building project, Elkland Search and Rescue, Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, Guardian Angel Center, Jay Township Fire Department, St. Marys Public Library, St. Marys Recreation and Parks, St. Marys Area School District elementary library program, and funding to maintain the Eternal Flame located on the Diamond downtown St. Marys.

Lace up your hiking boots! The PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship has partnered with the Keystone Trails Association (KTA) to develop and publish a Pennsylvania Wilds-branded hiking guidebook for the Pennsylvania Wilds region.
The PA Wilds region is home to the greatest concentration of public lands in the commonwealth, more than 2 million acres, which includes more than 1,600 miles of trails. The hiking book is meant to highlight just some of the amazing trails and vistas that define the PA Wilds region as a premier outdoor recreation destination. The finished hiking book will include hiking trail options for all 13 counties that make up the PA Wilds region as well as stewardship messaging.
“The PA Wilds region is vast with a variety of unique landscapes that are full of rolling hills, gorges, trails, wildlife, and country roads. As the region has become more well known as an outdoor recreation destination, it creates the opportunity to create more consumer-facing guidebooks and maps to help unlock the region for a new generation of travelers,” said PA Wilds Center founder and CEO Ta Enos. “This book will complement other hiking books that are focused on specific parts of the region or certain experiences. It will also speak to our values of stewardship and exploration, making sure that readers are prepared for their hike and understand how to respect the natural beauty they’ll encounter, and will encourage them to connect with gateway communities and support local businesses.”
The deadline is February 21 for local nonprofits and faith-based organizations to submit a grant application for a portion of the $250,000 in funding available from the McKean County Commissioners-McKean County Community Foundation (MCCF) partnership. With the deadline coming soon, qualified applicants are encouraged to take this opportunity to obtain grant funding to enhance an existing program or to help start a new program that serves the residents of McKean County.

Eligible small diverse businesses can apply for funding grants to assist with working capital, inventory, equipment, marketing, and costs to support ongoing operations.
Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro is delivering on a major budget priority, opening the application window for small diverse businesses across the Commonwealth to apply for a total of $10.5 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
Grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 will be awarded to historically disadvantaged businesses that were in operation on or before March 17, 2020, and were impacted economically by COVID-19. All applications submitted between February 5 and February 23, 2024, will be considered for funding.
Joan Marie (Eaves) Fussell Russell, 82, entered into Glory on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Pavilion at BRMC.
Born October 14, 1941, in Starkville, MS, to the late Paul H. and Marie (Sheppard) Eaves.
Joan was a 1958 graduate of East Jefferson High School in Metairie, LA. She attended Louisiana State University at New Orleans before marrying Lt. William R. Fussell, Jr., USN on May 31, 1960.
They were stationed at Naval Air Stations in Corpus Christi TX, Bermuda and Jacksonville, FL, before Joan was widowed at age 23 when Bill was killed on active duty on April 11, 1965. She married William Ezra Russell on June 24, 1966. She lived most of her adulthood as a single mother following their divorce on December 29, 1971. She returned to Louisiana State University at New Orleans and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1986 and became a Registered Nurse. She worked in psychiatric hospitals in New Orleans and Houston before retiring from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Psychiatric Prison Hospital in 1997.

Smethport – Gloria A. Galentine, 72, of Turtlepoint, PA passed away unexpectedly, Friday (February 2, 2024) at Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.
She was born July 30, 1951 in Port Allegany, the daughter of Alfred and Artie (Bells) Cochran. On October 26, 1968, Smethport, she married Robert R. Galentine, who survives.
Gloria worked at Sheetz for several years, then at Carlson’s Store in Turtlepoint, and lastly at Northern Tier Headstart as an aide.
She was a member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460, was an auxiliary member of the Port Allegany Legion, and a member of the Birchgrove Mennonite Church. She was proud of being a grandmother and great-grandmother, as her family was her whole world to her.

Richard D. Stewart III: Loving Husband, Father, and Son
Richard D. Stewart III, 47, of Maple Grove Road, Friendship, NY passed way Friday, February 2, 2024 at home.
Born on May 8, 1976, in Corning, he was a son of Richard D. Stewart, II and Anita Hoad Parulski. On May 10, 1997, in Bath, he married the former Cristin M. McKenna who survives.
Rich was a graduate of Haverling High School Class of 1994. He later graduated from Houghton College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.
He started working for Friendship Dairies over twenty years ago, and continued on as a Regional Quality Manager for Saputo Cheese USA, Inc.
Rich enjoyed raising horses, cows, goats, and chickens with his wife and daughters. He also enjoyed volunteering with the 4-H program and gardening. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, they were the center of his world.
He had served on the Friendship Central School Board of Education and had attended the Cuba First Baptist Church.

George L. Lewis, 76, of Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Monday morning (January 22, 2024) following a lengthy illness. He was born April 8, 1947 in St. Marys, PA a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Hornung Lewis.
George graduated from Cameron County High School and served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed trapping and being with his family.
Bernard (Ben) C. Krieg, Sr., 68, of Grand Valley, PA formerly of Emporium, PA died Monday, January 29, 2024 due to an extended illness at Hamot Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 30, 1955 in Emporium, PA.
Ben graduated from Cameron County High School in 1973. He retired from the Emporium Borough after 30 years of service. He worked 15 years with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Ben also worked for various heavy equipment companies in Virginia and North Carolina. Ben enjoyed hunting with his sons and camping with his wife and grandchildren.
