Beacon Light Behavioral Health System (BLBHS), Beacon Light Adult Residential Services (BLARS), Deerfield Behavioral Health (DBH), Deerfield Solutions and their parent company Journey Health System (JHS), hosted an annual employee service awards lunch in Bradford on Tuesday. The staff members being recognized are celebrating a total of 555 years of service.

With 35 years of service at BLBHS, Kimberly Bond was applauded. Since she began her career in 1989, Bond has dedicated herself to her students without hesitation.

ELK DEMS TO SPONSOR WEEKEND OF ACTION / MEET & GREET EVENTS
The Elk County Democratic Committee will host a Weekend of Action coinciding with Saint Mary’s Bavarian Fall Fest this weekend Fri. Sept. 20th and Saturday Sept. 21st. The Committee plans to have its Headquarters open throughout the weekend and will host two candidate Meet & Greet events on Saturday along with a canvassing of neighborhoods throughout Elk County. All activities launch out of the Committee’s 2024 Victory Headquarters at 210 Brusselles Street in Downtown Saint Marys.

More than $1 million has been approved for homeowners and renters in Pennsylvania after Tropical Storm Debby from August 9-10, 2024.
“This milestone highlights the hard work of partners at the local, county, state and federal levels,” said Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Director Randy Padfield. “We will continue helping individuals get this critical assistance as they continue on their journey of recovery after this devastating flooding.”

Janice L. Kowell, 85, of Emporium, PA
Janice L. Kowell, 85, of Emporium, PA passed away at her residence, Emporium, PA on Tuesday afternoon (September 17, 2024). She was born December 19, 1938 in St. Marys, PA a daughter of the late Paul and Ruby Hess Broker. On January 3, 1960 in Emporium, PA she married the late Austin “Augie” Kowell.
Janice graduated from Cameron County High School. She worked several years at Sylvania before opening the Kowell Family Restaurant with her husband, Augie. She also worked as a housekeeper at various businesses and for several people in Emporium. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived bya son, Daniel Kowell, Arizona; daughter, Jackie Kowell, Emporium; son-in-law, David “Bucket” Hallowell, Emporium; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Hallowell, two brothers, Donald and Paul Gene Broker.
The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Monday (September 23, 2024) from 2-4 PM followed by a service at 4:00 PM with Rev. James Eastman, Pastor, Deeper Waters Ministries, officiating.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries’ Show Off fundraiser
Fundraiser for animals in need this Saturday in Wellsboro
There’s something for everyone at Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries’ Show Off fundraiser this Saturday, Sept. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Grand Canyon Veterinary Clinic’s grounds at 11765 Route 6, Wellsboro (across from Weis).
“We’re incredibly excited to bring back this event to benefit the lost, abandoned and at-risk animals we assist through Second Chance,” said Jim Howe, Second Chance’s board president. “Last year was so much fun for both dogs and people of all ages.”
The Show Off is centered around a series of competitions for dogs that everyone can come watch, but the event also offers kids’ games and arts and crafts, a painting activity for dogs, photo scenes, food including pup cups, local vendors offering handmade goods and dog-related business information, and raffles for chances to win prizes. The big-ticket prize is an animal crate table from Wayfair.
Entry is a $5 donation for adults; kids under 12 are free. Dog owners can also still sign up to compete at www.secondchanceas.org/show-off.

Timothy D. “Tim” Clymer, 67, of Marsh Creek
Timothy D. “Tim” Clymer, 67, of Marsh Creek, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 in Billings, Montana while on a motorcycle trip with his son and friends. He was born August 12, 1957, in Wellsboro to Raymond and Regina June (Clark) Clymer. He graduated from Wellsboro High School, and on September 1, 1979 married Tracy A. Taylor with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Tim owned and operated Tim’s Auto Repair (now Clymer Auto Repair). He loved to work, at the shop, around his house, helping others, in service to his church, Tim was always happiest making himself productive.

DARBYTOWN ACCESS IN WAYNE COUNTY TO BE CLOSED TEMPORARILY FOR IMPROVEMENTS
HARRISBURG, Pa. (September 17) –The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) announced today that the Darbytown Access, which provides fishing and boating access to the Delaware River in Damascus Township, Wayne County, will be temporarily closed from September 23 through September 27, 2024.
During this time, improvements will be made to the boat ramp.
While work is being completed at the Darbytown Access, boaters should plan accordingly to find alternate access to the Delaware River by using the Damascus Access upstream.
The PFBC thanks the public for their patience and understanding as these improvements are completed.
POW Presentation AT The Eldred WW2 Museum September 20
In April, the McKean County Historical Society received an anonymous letter sharing information regarding a citizen of Kane who became a POW in North Vietnam from May 19, 1967 – March 4, 1973. The letter also stated that the POW Day this year would be held on September 20.
Inspired by this information, the MCHS Program Committee began to formulate a program to honor and remember our POWs that is to be held on September 20 at the Eldred WWII Museum with Steve Appleby as the presenter.

Virginia A. “Ginger” Donachy, 72, of Benzinger Road, St. Marys, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Penn Highlands DuBois, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 22, 1951 in Brookville, PA, a daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Plyer Becker.
On February 5, 1972, she married Lawrence Donachy, who survives of St. Marys. Together they shared more than 52 years of marriage.

Alberta M. “Tootie” Crocco, 99, formerly of Mertz Avenue, St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born on April 23, 1925, in St. Marys,, a daughter of the late Edward and Carrie Friedl Wittman.
On October 19, 1946, in St. Marys Church, she married the late Biagio “Bill” Crocco, who preceded her in death on December 8, 1996. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

BARBARA JEAN WALT KOZMA, 68, of 611 Martha Ave., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.
Barb was born in Springville, NY on January 3, 1956. Daughter of the late Clyde & Dorothy Walt of Fillmore, NY.
She graduated from Fillmore Central School in 1974 and later graduated from Jamestown Community College, Olean Campus in 1994 with an Associate’s Degree in Human Resource Management. Barb was a former Domestic Violence Task Force Board member for Allegany County.
