Statement Regarding the Loss of Charles “Chuck” Jessup
Allegany County mourns the loss of former Legislator Charles “Chuck” Jessup and wishes to express sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chuck. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chuck’s wife Linda and the Jessup family.
Earlier this year, Allegany County adopted a resolution recognizing and thanking Mr. Jessup for his extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Allegany County.
Chuck began his career in Allegany County in 2013 when he was appointed to fill the remainder of Doug Burdick’s term on the Allegany County Board of Legislators, and he continued to serve as a Legislator through 2017. Chuck’s contributions to Allegany County are extensive, including service as member and Chair of the Allegany County Planning Board, the Comprehensive Plan Committee and Implementation Group, the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency, the Southern Tier West Board of Directors, and the Allegany County Telecommunications Development Corporation.
In addition to his work with the County, Chuck operated Southern Tier Tax Data Service for 20 years and worked as Business Manager of Southern Tier Concrete for 44 years. Chuck also served on the Town of Alfred Planning Board in the early 1980s and the Alfred Town Board from 1985-1998 as Councilman, Deputy Supervisor, and Supervisor. He is a Life Member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Hornell, a Life Member of the Alfred Rod and Gun Club, a 30-year Trustee of the Alfred Rural Cemetery Association, and co-founder of the Sugar Hill Development Corporation of Alfred Station.
Chuck was an extraordinary public servant and engaged in many community organizations. He stands out as a role model that we can all look to for inspiration. Allegany County has lost a great friend and community member with the passing of Chuck Jessup.
