Roderick D. Corey, 67, of Coudersport, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, peacefully at his home. Known for his rugged exterior, but even more so for the kindness and compassion that lay beneath, Rod left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rod was born on February 11, 1957, in Coudersport, the son of the late Dean H. and Jean L. (Simpier) Corey.Rod was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1975. He worked alongside his father as a skilled carpenter, helping build many homes in the area, including his own. These early years instilled in him a strong work ethic and pride in creating something lasting with his hands, traits that would carry him through a diverse and fulfilling career in the skilled trades.
After his years as a carpenter, Rod expanded his skills by taking on various roles in heavy equipment operation, industrial inspection, and later, pipeline and facility operations in the Oil & Gas industry. His dedication and expertise were respected by his colleagues, and he took pride in being part of an industry that helped shape the region. For years, Rod was a devoted volunteer, maintaining the local baseball fields. His care for the fields wasn’t just about the grass and the dirt, but about the kids and families who gathered there. With a rake in hand and a smile on his face, he took immense pride in keeping the fields in perfect condition, ensuring that every game felt like the big leagues for the players. To him, it wasn’t just about the sport, but about creating a place where memories were made and where a community came together.
In his downtime, Rod could be found enjoying the great outdoors, whether he was hunting or riding his beloved Harley Davidson. The freedom of the open road called to him, and he found peace in the simple joy of a long ride. His love for adventure, combined with his appreciation for nature, brought him great happiness throughout his life.
He is survived by sons: Joshua D. (Laura) Corey of Rockledge, FL; and Colton G. Corey of West Reading; grandchildren: Quinn and Emily Corey, who will forever cherish the lessons he taught them, the love he shared, and the memories they created together.
