Twenty RGS Volunteers Plant Aspen with Seneca Resources on Collins Pine Company Lands on Sunday, 4/7/24
Kane, Pa.: Twenty volunteers showed up on Sunday, 4/7/24, to help plant aspen seedlings on a former water impoundment site at a reclaimed well pad managed by Seneca Resources Corporation on lands owned by Collins Pine Company out of Kane. “We really thank the great turnout of folks wanting to help wildlife,’ said John Dzemyan, one of the habitat leaders for the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS).
The planting site is about halfway between Kane and Wilcox. Collins Pine Company actively manages their lands for sustainable wood harvest for society that also benefits wildlife. “Many hands today really lightened the load for everybody. We hope you all come back in several weeks when we do our final planting at this site,” said Christopher Beaver, also a habitat leader within the RGS.
The planting was sponsored by the Upland Bird Hunt and Allegheny Chapters of the Ruffed Grouse Society. Volunteers planted 350 eighteen-inch aspen seedlings.
A second date for shrub planting is tentatively planned for the first weekend of May, but is contingent upon the shrubs arriving by that date. Stay tuned for an exact date.
