FLASHBACK
Baseball
The Wildcats went 2-1 in a three-game home series against Penn State Abington, winning 13-7 and losing 10-2 on Friday, and winning on Saturday, 18-6, to open their United East schedule. Penn College now is 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
In the opening game, Penn College overcame a 6-2 first-inning deficit with a seven-run third — highlighted by a three-run homer by Shane Price, of Kersey — and a three-run fifth — highlighted by a three-run homer by Tyler Rudolph, of Hemlock, New York — to make a winner of starting pitcher Ben Bretzman, of Bendersville.
Later Friday, the Wildcats were held to five hits in their loss.
On Saturday, Jake Wagner, of Palmyra, had a grand-slam home run and Nate Gustkey, of Philipsburg, added a three-run shot to pace the offense — Wagner finished the game with seven RBIs — as they helped starting pitcher Chance Webb, of Hughesville, improve to 2-2.
Friday’s win snapped a two-season, five-game loss string to Abington, which had won 10 of the previous 11 games between the two teams. Prior to that, Penn College had won five in a row.
United East standings through Sunday: Penn State Harrisburg 3-0, Penn State Berks 3-0, Penn College 2-1, St. Mary’s (Md.) College 2-1, Wells College 1-2, Penn State Abington 1-2, Gallaudet University 0-3, Lancaster Bible College 0-3.

Men’s lacrosse
Hosting Immaculata University on Saturday, Penn College used a seven-goal third period to snap a two-match loss string with a 15-13 nonconference win that improved its record to 6-2.
Tied at 13-all, Wildcat goals by Trevor Soli, of Redding, Connecticut, and Brendan Kuczma, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, over the last 7:52 lifted the team to victory.
Croix Teter, of Mechanicsburg, led Penn College with three goals and three assists, while Wildcat teammates Camden Elmo, of Hanover, and Quinn Caviola, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, both had three goals and goalkeeper JJ Cella, of Cape May, New Jersey, made 14 saves.
UE standings through Sunday: St. Mary’s (Md.) College 1-0, SUNY Morrisville 0-0, Wells College 0-0, La Roche University 0-0, Hilbert College 0-0, Penn College 0-1.
Softball
The team’s lone scheduled games against Elmira College were postponed from Friday until Tuesday, but earlier in the week, sophomore Mackenzie Weaver, of Montoursville, was honored as the United East Pitcher of the Week for March 6-12, finishing with a 2-1 record as she struck out three in a complete-game win over Gettysburg College, fanned 11 in a win over Fitchburg State and struck out nine in a loss to William Peace University. Over the three contests, she allowed just one earned run per game.
Wrestling
Ten Wildcats were honored as members of the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference All-Academic Team during the team’s inaugural season in the ECWC.
They were Ryan Berstler, of Middletown; Anton Esterbrook, of Wyomissing; Liam Goodrich, of Cogan Station; Noah Hunt, of Muncy; Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni, of Blairsville; Logan Ledebohm, of Mechanicsburg; Zach Miller, of Lock Haven; Brett Patton, of West Chester; Nick Semon, of Norristown; and C.J. Trimber, of Moon Township.
Recipients of the honor must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher (through the last eligible grading period of the current academic year) or have maintained a 3.20-or-better over the past two completed semesters. Wrestlers must also have competed in at least three events during the season to gain consideration. Freshmen and transfers who have been enrolled full time for at least one semester are eligible to receive the honor.
UE Presidents’ Cup race
Through the winter sports season, SUNY Morrisville has moved to the top of the standings in the UE Presidents’ Cup race with 7.57 average points, while Lancaster Bible College is close behind with 7.50 points.
The Presidents’ Cup is determined by a scoring system that rewards a school for success during both regular season and postseason competition.
Morrisville topped the regular season in women’s basketball while following up with a conference championship to nab the maximum number of points in that sport. Lancaster Bible made a leap to take second place overall as their men’s basketball team won both the regular season and the championship.
Following those two are St. Mary’s (Md.) College with 7.43 points, Penn State Harrisburg 7.14, Penn State Berks 5.36, Penn College 4.57, Penn State Abington 4.0, Wells College 2.80, Gallaudet University 2.57.
