Port Allegany – James D. Sherwood, 95, of Turtlepoint, PA, passed away Saturday (July 25, 2026) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.

He was born August 30, 1930 in Ceres, NY, the son of Samuel and Grace (Grimes) Sherwood. On July 24, 1954, in Pike, NY, he married Shirley A. Sherwood, who died September 14, 2024.

He worked for Annin and Liberty Twp. and had been a farmer for many years along with working at Nelson’s in Smethport, PA. 

He enjoyed working on projects and telling stories about his life and spending time with family. He enjoyed planting a garden with his granddaughter Shelby when he was able. He prayed every night for protection over his family.

He is survived by:

Two daughters: Diana Marvin of Hanover, PA and Becky (David) Witt of Turtlepoint, PA

One son: David Sherwood of Middletown, PA

Eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren

And many nieces and nephews 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Leon Sherwood, six brothers and four sisters. 

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
