TRAFFIC AND DUI DETAIL IN MCKEAN COUNTY

(MCKEAN COUNTY, Pennsylvania: December 9, 2025): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that McKean County law enforcement recently did a county-wide traffic detail to decrease DUIs and increase safety on roadways. The traffic detail occurred on Thanksgiving Eve and all police departments in the county participated.
Prior to the traffic detail, the officers and District Attorney met with the mother and sister of a victim who was killed in a DUI hit and run in 2015 as well as a Drug Recognition Expert to discuss the importance of curtailing impaired driving and legal topics.
Throughout the county, there were 149 traffic stops during the hours of the traffic detail. Most of the drivers, other than those who were driving while intoxicated, were given a warning. DA Vettenburg-Shaffer: “Traffic patrols like the one conducted last month can make the difference between life and death due to the prevalence of DUI in rural areas like ours.
Every year, we have DUI crashes that result in injury and, often, death. Impaired driving can lead to incarceration, loss of license or worse and can be avoided with the use of a designated driver. Traffic patrols occur every day – on every shift of every department – and county-wide efforts like the one in this recent detail will continue.” Created Dec 9, 2025 @ 9:40 AM
