Penn College Athletics At A Glance

Last week in review: Wins by the wrestling, women’s basketball and men’s lacrosse teams made for a super Saturday, while the season came to a close for the men’s basketball team.
On the horizon: With its victory, the women’s basketball team not only matched the program’s single-season win mark but also secured the United East Conference second seed and earned a first-round bye going into the playoffs. It will host the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 7 Lancaster Bible College and No. 10 Gallaudet University on Saturday at a time to be determined.
Also, this coming Saturday, the college’s baseball team steps into action for the first time this season, hosting Juniata College starting at noon in a doubleheader at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School.
WRESTLING
Last week’s hometown highlights: The Wildcats successfully defended their title in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship, edging Penn State Behrend 152-150.5, while capturing three individual titles, six second-place finishes, and two fourth-place finishes.
Placing first were Kaden Ware, of Brooklyn, Connecticut, at 141 pounds; Carter Davis, of York, at 165; and Nick Woodruff, of Wyalusing, at 197. Finishing second were Chase Shaner, of Hughesville, at 141; Blake Dergham, of Slatington, at 133; TJ Martin, of Honesdale, at 149; Brett Patton, of West Chester, at 157; Gavin Gomes, of Denville, New Jersey, at 174; and Nicholai Brotzman, of Marietta, at 285. Coming in fourth were Logan Mickey, of Chambersburg, and Cole Shupp, of Danville, at 184.
Final AMCC regular-season standings: Penn State Behrend 4-0, Penn College 3-1, Alfred State 2-2, Pitt-Bradford 1-3, Penn State Altoona 0-4.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Last week’s hometown highlights: A year ago, when the teams met for the first time, Susquehanna won 21-12. Program-wise, the River Hawks are in their 27th season, and Penn College is in its sixth campaign, but none of that mattered as the Wildcats used a 5-3 fourth-quarter scoring advantage for their one-goal win.
Sparking the victory: Owen Kupsey, of Chadds Ford, scored seven goals; Elliot Dotson, of Wilmington, Delaware, added three goals and four assists; and Aidan McFalls, of Gilbertsville, had four goals. Also, Antonio Santora, of Haskell, New Jersey, was 10 of 21 in faceoffs, and goalie Ryan Twist, of Great Meadows, New Jersey, made 10 saves.

Last week’s hometown highlights: Gigi Parlante, of Williamsport, scored 17 points; Lexi Troup, of Huntingdon, scored 13; and RaeAnna Andreas, of Berwick, and Kayla Herzer, of Brick, New Jersey, both scored 10, and Herzer snared 10 rebounds, in the UE victory at Gallaudet that produced the record-tying 19th win of the campaign.

In the season finale at Gallaudet, Owen Newcomer, of Newell, finished with 19 points, and Reeder scored 12.
