Let’s Treat Hunger as the Local Crisis It Is
By Kelsey Boudin
Of all local problems, hunger stands at the center as both a cause and symptom of poverty. Yet hunger isn’t treated like a central issue worth solving to improve the socioeconomic fabric of our communities.
(Yes, this is absolutely a pitch to support my client Olean Food Pantry during the Giving Season right around the corner. Stick with me for a healthy dose of logic.)

Open Door Counseling Is Coming To Bradford
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT:
Open Door Counseling is moving from Camp Hill, PA to Bradford!
Karen Ingalls, Licensed Professional Counselor, is accepting new in-person clients at her Bradford office (telehealth not available).
“My plan was always to move back up north after getting my license. I’m originally from Coudersport, and I went into the field of counseling because I saw such a lack of mental and emotional health services in my hometown and the surrounding areas. I’m hoping eventually to find a way to have a mobile office so I can get around to some of the smaller communities in Potter and McKean Counties. I accept most insurances, but unfortunately am not able to accept Medicaid or Cigna.”
In the meantime, if you type your zip code into PsychologyToday.com, it will bring up a list of all available therapists in your area.

Causer Announces Grants to Local History Groups
BRADFORD – Three area organizations devoted to preserving the region’s history have been awarded grants from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) said today.
The McKean County Historical Society and Cameron County Historical Society each received $8,000, while the Eldred World War II Museum received $4,000.
“Our region has such a rich history, and we are fortunate to have county historical societies dedicated to preserving it for current and future generations,” Causer said. “We are also blessed to have the Eldred World War II Museum, which does a great job highlighting the role the community of Eldred played in supporting the war effort. I was glad to support these important investments in these organizations.”
The grants were awarded through PHMC’s Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program. The program provides general operating support to museums and official county historical societies that are not directly supported by other state agency operating support programs. Grants are awarded on a formula based on a percentage of the organization’s annual operating budget.
Shapiro Must Follow Supreme Court Ruling by Stopping “Automatic Voter Registration” on Vehicle Registrations
Sixty-three members of the House Republican Caucus, including State Rep. Seth Grove (R – York), sent a letter to Gov. Josh Shapiro alerting him to a recent Supreme Court decision which questioned the legality of PennDOT’s “automatic voter registration” program for vehicle registration.
“Since Gov. Shapiro announced all PennDOT interactions – not just legally authorized driver license renewals – will include automatic voter registration, Republicans have been deeply concerned with its administration and legal rationale,” Grove emphasized. “The majority of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court agrees with some of our concerns and shared this in a recent ruling. The Governor must act swiftly to halt this program and contact all voters whose voting address may have been updated by PennDOT.”

Public Drunkenness Arrest In Bradford
On September 15th 2024 at approximately 0302 hours officers with the Bradford City Police Department were dispatched to a disturbance at a private residence on Pleasant Street. The caller reported that there was a male wearing a flannel shirt by the name of Robert Johnson who was in their backyard messing with the windows to the residence and attempting to open the front door. Officers located the male farther down the block walking away from the scene and questioned the male. Officers determined that the male was intoxicated in public and a danger to himself and other members of the community.
Officers ultimately arrested Johnson and while at his home attempting to return the male to be in the care of a sober individual, he began to run away again placing himself and others in danger. After multiple attempts to have Johnson remain home, officers had to use substantial force to restrain Johnson who was then transported back to the Bradford City Police station for a virtual arraignment on his charges. District Judge Engman arraigned Johnson and bail was set at $2,500 straight. Johnson, unable to post bail, was remanded to the McKean County Jail.
