PennDOT – District 3 – Weight Restriction Announced for Route 4018 in Sullivan County
Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists in Sullivan County that Dushore Overton Road/Overton Road (Route 4018) in Dushore Borough, Forks and Cherry townships will be posted with a permanent, year-round, 10-ton weight restriction.
A 10-ton weight limit will be placed on Dushore Overton Road/Overton Road between Taylor Hill Road (Route 4017) and South German Street (Route 220).
The posting is being made based on a traffic-and-engineering study indicating that this highway may be damaged by vehicles that exceed the restriction.
School buses, emergency vehicles and local-delivery trucks are exempted from the postings.
The restriction will be in effect once the required signs are erected by a PennDOT maintenance crew, anticipated before the end of August 2024.
2024 Champions of the Pennsylvania Wilds Awards
On July 25, the ten recipients of the 2024 Champions of the Pennsylvania Wilds Awards were recognized for their efforts to help grow and sustainably develop the region’s outdoor recreation economy and nature tourism.
Approximately 200 people from across the 13-county PA Wilds region and Harrisburg gathered to celebrate the award winners during the 2024 PA Wilds Dinner & Awards, which was held at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
PennDOT – District 2 PennDOT Updates Clearfield County Surface Treatment Schedule
Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated its schedule for surface treatment operations, more commonly known as “oil and chip,” in Clearfield County for the week of August 8. This maintenance treatment seals the road surface to keep water out, restores the friction of the surface to enhance traction, and extends the service life of the pavement between resurfacings.
Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours while crews complete the treatments. PennDOT urges driver to build extra time into their travel schedules as delays are anticipated on the following routes throughout the week:

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised a milling and resurfacing project continues on Route 87 in Montoursville Borough, Fairfield Township, Upper Fairfield Township and Plunketts Creek Township, Lycoming County.
The week of Monday, August 12, 2024, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker will continue resurfacing operations along Route 87 between the Interstate 180 overpass in Montoursville Borough and north to Pier 87 Bar and Grill in Plunketts Creek Township.
Work will be performed during both daylight and overnight hours.

June Rose Bend, 73, of Coudersport, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport. June was born on June 19, 1951, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Peter & Rita (Messick) Bend.

Cheryl J. Pistner, 79, of St. Marys, passed away at Pinecrest Manor on August 6, 2024 following an illness of the past three years.
Cheryl was born on March 5, 1945 in Ridgway. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Lavonne (Green) Sennett. On August 29, 1969 she married James J. Pistner who survives. They were married in the chapel at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital by Father Cero.
Cheryl grew up in Kersey, PA, and attended grade school at Kersey Elementary School and was a graduate of the St. Marys Area High School. Upon graduation she obtained a business degree in stenography from the Erie Business College. Later she attended Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree as a medical secretary and transcriptionist.

Born on September 12, 1930, in Farmersville, she was a daughter of Arthur and Clara Sherwood Burrows. She was married to Harvey Collins who predeceased her in 1994.
Betty was a member of the Portville Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, hand embroidery, and quilting.
CRCF accepting Wagner Family Library Fund grant applications
OLEAN, N.Y., August 8 – The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the Wagner Family Library Fund.
The Wagner Family Library Fund, which made its first grant awards in 2023, is open to applications from libraries in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties.

PITT-BRADFORD TAKES PART IN WORLD INDIGENOUS SUICIDE PREVENTION CONFERENCE
BRADFORD, Pa. – Members of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford community traveled to Niagara Falls, N.Y., recently to attend and volunteer at the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference being held for the first time in North America.
Pitt-Bradford was also a sponsor of the conference, which brought together Indigenous people from around the world to discuss and discover practices for the prevention and intervention of suicide using Indigenous knowledge and medicine. The conference was hosted by the Seneca Nation of Indians at the Seneca Niagara Falls Casino.
