Potter County Artisan Co-op will have a Christmas Open House
The Potter County Artisan Co-op in Coudersport will be hosting a Christmas Open House Saturday November 26, 2022 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm during the Annual Christmas in a Small Town in Coudersport, PA. The center is decorated with a Christmas theme, and several artists have Christmas decorations for sale, which can be seen throughout the gallery. There will be a variety of affordable art, free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies, kids’ crafts, opportunity to meet some of the artists. Volunteers That Care will be selling raffle tickets.
The Potter County Artisan Co-op is a juried collective of local fine art and master craftsmanship. Available items include: maple syrup, honey, pickles and relishes, artisan cheese, knitted and crocheted hats, and quilted items natural soaps, and herbal teas The center has handmade pottery—from beer steins to coffee mugs. There’s also a variety of baskets, painted gourds, photographs, wildlife drawings, paintings, dream catchers, greeting cards, books and Eliot Ness Fest memorabilia including t-shirts. Each item is unique—none are the exact same and each has been individually crafted by local artisans. And, best of all, they are made locally. James A. “Boo” Coder, Jr., 69, of 15 Lang Lane, Lewis Run, PA
James A. “Boo” Coder, Jr., 69, of 15 Lang Lane, Lewis Run, PA passed away Monday, November 14, 2022, at the UPMC Hamot Medical Center.
Born November 19, 1952, in Bradford, he was the son of the late James A. and Joanne (Cramer) Coder, Sr.
Boo was a graduate of Bradford Central Christian High School, class of 1971. He worked his way through the ranks as a Bradford City Fireman
and was appointed Chief on December 18, 2007 and he served as chief until January 31, 2011. After retiring as a Bradford City Firefighter,
he worked for Northern Industrial Insulation and the University of Pittsburgh of Bradford.
On September 2, 2006 on his parents back porch he married Carol (Kightlinger) Coder, who survives.
He excelled in sports in school, playing basketball and football. He was an avid sportsman,loved bowling, fishing, hunting, golf, and played
shortstop in the Bradford Men’s Softball League. He was a member of the Gleason Golf League and the Italian Club. He was a Bradford
Township Supervisor for many years and donated his time to help to stock fish in the area.
Surviving is his wife and longtime companion, Carol, one daughter, Krista Coder, four sisters, Sis Crappio, Annie Keller, Tessa Crosby,
and Kelly Gainey, one brother, John H. Coder, two grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, Buddy, Melissa, Katelyn, Garret, Jason, Jimmy,
Dalton, Kara, Brianna, Christian, and Aaron, and our loyal companion our cats, Daisy and Annie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Michael P. Coder, and one son, Casey Coder.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South

Janet Elizabeth Viglione, 94, a resident of Ridgmont and formerly of 402 Benedict Street, St. Marys, PA
Janet Elizabeth Viglione, 94, a resident of Ridgmont and formerly of 402 Benedict Street, St. Marys, PA passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Ridgmont.
She was born October 2, 1928, in Kane, PA, daughter of the late Hilding and Ruth Sayers Anderson. She has been a resident of St. Marys since 1958 and lived in Ridgway since she was eight years old where she graduated from Ridgway High School in 1947.
On June 21, 1947, in St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Janet married her sweetheart, Paul Michael Viglione, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1999. They were blessed to celebrate their Golden Anniversary in 1997.
She is survived by her son, Alan M. Viglione (Jean) of Championsgate, FL; three grandchildren: Christine Burkey (Robert) of Holidaysburg, Joseph Viglione (Hazel) of State College, and Therese Viglione of Bellefonte; six great-grandchildren: Michael, Jordyn, and Nicholas Burkey and Samuel, Owen, and Gemma Viglione; four sisters: Loretta Herzing of St. Marys, Karen Nero (George) of St. Marys, Junette Weisner of St. Marys, and Lyn Scrubb (Leo) of Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Kay Viglione of Ridgway.
In addition to her husband and parents, Janet was preceded in death by her sisters: Bonnie Lynd and Shirley Fabino; her step-mother, June Anderson Smith; a niece, Diane Lynd; a nephew, Richard Lynd, Jr.; and brothers-in-law: Archie Fabino, Richard Lynd, Sr., John Herzing, and Jim Weisner.
She worked at Quality Components for forty-two years and was in business with her husband at Paul Viglione Beauty Salon for over thirty-five years. She has been a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church since 1958 and was a committed member of the Elk County community. She loved traveling and spending time with all her family including her McDonald’s Family.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Maureen E. Brennan of Cuba, NY
Maureen E. Brennan of Cuba, NY known to many as Mo, Grandma, Ging Ging and Aunt Ging, passed away Sunday (Nov. 13, 2022) at Buffalo General Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1939, in Olean, she was the daughter of Donald and Dorothy Rafferty Brennan.
Maureen was a graduate of Olean High School. She was a hard-working woman and had worked in the housekeeping department at St. Bonaventure University for over 30 years.
In 2008, she suffered a massive stroke, which left her partially paralyzed. After her stroke, she worked even harder to learn how to walk and regain the use of one of her arms.
In recent years, Maureen lived between her son and daughter’s homes and it enabled a unique and cherished relationship with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a kind, generous and loveable lady.
Maureen loved traveling to Charleston and Myrtle Beach, S.C. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, going fishing and going to the casino. Her routine of watching television shows, from the Price is Right to the Young and the Restless, will be missed.
Maureen is survived by two children, Dawn (Michael) Morris of Bolivar and Shawn (Debbie) Fowler of Cuba; six grandchildren, Luke (Kate) Campbell, Shane Campbell, Brittany Fowler, Tara (Chris Corder) Campbell, Emily Fowler and Katey Fowler; three step-grandsons, Joshua, Matthew and Kyle Morris; three great-grandchildren, Jeter, Ellis and Gabriella Campbell; one brother, Michael (Bonnie) Brennan of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including two special nieces and goddaughter, Allie Hartley and Chauncy Crowley; and a close nephew, Scott (Gretchen) Coppella.
She was predeceased by her longtime companion and soulmate, Allan Fowler Jr. of Eldred, Pa.; an infant son, Jonathan Fowler; two sisters, Patricia McGranigan and Nancy (John) Coppella; and one brother, Steven Brennan.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday (Nov. 19, 2022) at the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will begin at noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.

Jarrid L. MATTESON, 36, of Wellsville, NY
Jarrid L. MATTESON, 36, of Wellsville, NY, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
Born January 15, 1986, in Wellsville, he was the son of Brian and Tammy Waters Matteson.
A 2005 graduate of Wellsville High School, he attended Corning Community College for Fire EMS.
On October 22, 2016, in Wellsville, he married Katie L. Williams, who survives.
He was employed by Kmart, L.C. Whitford, Bokman of Wellsville, several local farms, Track Rescue, MTS, and as a painter at Concrete Mixer Supply of Olean.
Jarrid was a member of Wellsville Volunteer Fire Company, serving in numerous positions and currently the captain of the fire department, Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps where he served as chairman, and attended Crosstown Alliance Church. The fire department was a large part of Jarrid’s life.
He owned and operated Jarrid’s Woodworking.
Surviving besides his wife, Katie, are: two daughters, Mya and Gracie; his parents, Brian and Tammy Matteson of Wellsville; paternal grandparents, Marion and Mary Matteson of Wellsville; maternal grandfather, Paul Waters of Andover; a sister, Brianna (Eric) Jordan of Plymouth, MA; two brothers, Bret (Erica) Matteson of Whitesville and Scott (Wendy) Lanphier of Scio; his mother-in-law, Lora Williams of Wellsville; many aunts and uncles; a niece, Aubrey; three nephews, Holden, Landen, and Andrew; and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Sarah Waters; and three uncles, Alan Matteson, Scott Matteson, and Stanley Weinhauer.

Walter R. Bowers, age 81 of Westfield, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at his home.
Born December 27, 1940 in Westfield, he was the son of the late Ronald and Ethelyn (West) Bowers.
Walt retired from Ingersoll Rand, Painted Post, where he was a machinist for many years.
He married Bonita M. (Swimley) in 1959 and they shared 61 years together until her passing on January 13, 2021. When their children we younger, they were active in the Westfield Youth Baseball and the Alleghany Mountain League. Walt enjoyed fishing, cooking and woodworking.
He is survived by his children, Rick Bowers of Troy, Cindy (Mike) Stevens of Elmira, Bud and Tina Bowers of Westfield and Timothy and Daphne Bowers of Watsontown; his grandchildren, Ryan and Mindy Stevens, Gabrielle and Mike Hess, Tyler, McKenzie, Garrett and Sidney Bowers four great grandchildren, Carter and Logan Stevens and Madelene and Claire Hess; two sisters, June Passmore and Kay Sweet and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph “Joe” W. Stratton, age 69 of Lawrenceville, PA
Joseph “Joe” W. Stratton, age 69 of Lawrenceville, PA passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2022.
Born on January 19, 1953 in Blossburg, PA, he was a son to the late Bernard and Beatrice (Phelps) Stratton. Joe married Lucinda “Cindy” J. Davis on July 11, 1974 and they spent 48 loving years together before his passing.
Once Joe graduated high school, he went into the Air Force for a handful of years during the Vietnam and Cold War era. After his military service Joe obtained a degree in Forestry from Williamsport Area College. Then Joe dairy farmed for 21 years, worked in various industries, and finished his working career with Repsol Oil and Gas.
During his retirement he continued to enjoy running his sawmill, farming, having long breakfasts with lots of people and coffee, playing and listening to music, entertaining people, and helping anyone with any project. Joe was very handy, a Jack of all trades: he was a plumber, electrician, woodworker, and mechanic. Joe loved to learn, teach, work with animals, and spend time with his family. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, NRA, and once was a fireman at the Nelson Fire Department.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Stratton of Lawrenceville, PA; children, Aaron (Tamy) Stratton of Woodhull, NY, Jennifer (Gregory) Hanaway of Russell, PA, Ryan (Jennifer) Stratton of Lawrenceville, PA, Christopher Stratton of Woodhull, NY, and Joe (Jennette) Farris of Osceola, PA, who is like another son. Brother, John (Fran) Stratton of Nelson, PA; 5 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents.

Bradley B. Hackett Sr, age 83 of Elkland, PA
Bradley B. Hackett Sr, age 83 of Elkland, PA passed away Sunday evening, November 13th, 2022 at his home.
Born on April 23,1939, in Osceola, PA he was the son of Frederick A. and Edith E. Hackett.
Brad was born and raised in the Osceola, Elkland, Nelson area and graduated from Elkland High School in 1959, where he was a multi-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. His skill in baseball led him to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies after a tryout at Dunn Field in Elmira, NY following graduation.
It was in high school that he met the great love of his life, Rosemary E (Bruce), whom he would marry in May of 1960. The two would spend the next 62 years together in Elkland, PA, raising three children, daughter Kelley (Hackett) Cevette, and sons Blaine and Bruce Hackett.
Brad was an avid hunter, fisherman, and woodsman for over 70 years, bagging his last whitetail buck in 2018 at age 79, before health issues limited his mobility. His passion of being in the woods culminated in his purchase of land on the PA/NY border in Tuscarora, NY where he would spend the bulk of his time in his retirement years, known among the family as “Hackett Hill”.
An avid fastpitch softball and baseball player in his earlier years, he was inducted into the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame, the Cowanesque Valley Mens Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Elkland Softball Association Hall of Fame. He also spent many years coaching, where he had the uncanny ability to recognize overlooked talents in players and put them in the positions on the field where they could succeed. He passed on his love affair of sports to his children and later grandchildren, whom he coached and was a passionate supporter of each of their sports careers.
Brad was also an ardent fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, Buffalo Bills, Penn State Football and Syracuse Orangemen basketball, avidly following each team as the seasons changed.
Brad was employed by Ingersoll/Dresser Rand for 38 years as a maintenance painter, retiring in 2001, where he met and made many of his lifelong friends.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary (Bruce) Hackett of Elkland, PA, daughter Kelley (Jeff) Cevette of Elkland, PA, son, Blaine (Jody) Hackett of Elkland, PA, son Bruce (Meshion) Hackett of Corning, NY, 6 grandchildren (Justin Cevette, Dan Cevette, Erin (Hackett) Cook, Taylor Hackett, Cecilia Hackett, Sophia Hackett) and 5 great grandchildren (Mason Cevette, Callen Cevette, Kenna Cevette, Caellum Cook, Micah Cook). He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon Jones, Terry (Joanne) Hackett, Carly (John Butch) McDivitt, William (Lois) Hackett, Debbie (Scott) Chilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick A. Hackett and Edith E. Hackett and brother Robert R. Hackett.

COUDERSPORT, PA – Around 5:45 PM on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Coudersport fire crews rushed to the 700 block of North Hollow Road in Sweden Township for a reported structure fire with entrapment around 5:45 PM.
Flames and heavy smoke were reported coming from the 102 year-old 2.5 story home by nearby neighbors. When fire personnel arrived on scene, they immediately requested a second alarm and confirmed one person to be trapped inside the home.
Firefighters from Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, Austin Volunteer Fired Department, Galeton Goodyear Hose Company, Germania Volunteer Fire Department, Roulette Fire Department, Tri Town Volunteer Fire Department, McKean Station 3, Port Allegany and Ulysses units.
Firefighters work together as they battled to rescue the individual said to still have been in the house when the fire was first reported.
Around 7:00 PM word was received by FNN that the coroner had been called to the scene of the fire, as was the Fire Marshal.
By 7:45 PM the fire was reported to have been brought under control. It is unknown when the fire was officially reported out.
FNN was also told that the American Red Cross had also been contacted by on scene personnel for refreshments and coffee. Also Sheetz in Coudersport donated muffins cookies, hotdogs and coffee for those working at the scene.
Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center names Nicole Hockey as Student of the Week
It is with great pride that the Networking Shop at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center names Nicole Hockey as Student of the Week. Nicole has shown an incredible amount of determination and school spirit throughout the school year. She is a member of the Student Committee, the CyberPatriot team and the Screaming Eagles esports team. With her work effort, it is clear Nicole will go as far as she wishes in her future endeavors.
Alexis Kemp is the Student of the Week for November 14
Alexis Kemp is the Student of the Week for November 14, She is in the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. Alexis is a Junior enrolled at Oswayo Valley High School. Upon graduation, Alexis would like to be a psychologist. She made the decision to enroll in Psychology 111 this year at the Career and Technical Center for college credit.
Alexis is kind and honest, dependable and inclusive. Alexis strives to get good grades and has a positive attitude and thoughtfully prepares her work. She was able to take the lead and assisted last year on the Student Committee at the Career and Technical Center and has assisted with tour groups coming to the Career and Technical Center.
Alexis has been volunteering at the Oswayo Valley Elementary School this academic year. She hopes to attain her Child Development Associate next year. Alexis is also involved with the Yellow Ribbon Club, Varsity Club and Envirothon at her home school. Alexis will be a great candidate for working with children or adults in the future based on her passion and desire to help others.
Lori Edgar, her Mentor teacher currently, wrote “It has been my pleasure to have Alexis Kemp in the classroom in which I am a short-term substitute. I thought she was an intern as she was so confident, motivated and mature. She had her assignments and implemented her lessons with the students without assistance. The students enjoy her company and they listen to her instructions with ease. She is always working and will complete any task given. She has also taken on specific tasks as her own and completes them with no prompting. She works on benchmarking, phonics and grammar activities as well as assists in student specials (PE, STEM, Art and Music). She also leads the students on Wednesdays during the Mileage Club fitness challenge. Students are expected to walk at least a quarter mile each week. Alexis monitors and tracks student mileage. She has recently assisted with some preparation for our Veteran’s Day program on Friday, November 11th.
Alexis was present during a supervisor walkthrough on November 8, 2022. The principal added the following information to my observation regarding Alexis: “Service Learner from the high school sitting in on the class. Assists in the transition from worksheet to Chromebooks, prompting students to grab any Chromebook. Monitors a small group of students and guides them back to task when they seem to be distracted. Students eagerly seek assistance from the Service Learner. She interacts with them in a gentle, supportive manner. Very respectful.”
Robert J. “Bob” Culver, 62, of Martinsville, IN, formerly of Port Allegany,
Robert J. “Bob” Culver, 62, of Martinsville, IN, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away unexpectedly Monday (Nov. 7, 2022).
Born August 18, 1960, in Port Allegany, he was a son of Leroy J. Culver and Barbara J. (Arnot) Culver. On October 22, 2005, in Port Allegany, he married Karen Zessinger, who survives.
He grew up in the Port Allegany area and graduated from the Port Allegany High School, class of 1978.
Bob served with the US Air Force for 8 years, and worked as a paramedic for 10 years in Pennsylvania.
He was employed in the family business, the Culver Bus Garage, Port Allegany, for several years, and with the Martinsville School District in the technology department for 20 years, before his retirement.
Bob was well known for his ability to fix anything. He loved working on computers or anything mechanical. Bob could build anything and would do anything for anyone. He was very dependable and anytime someone needed help, he’d be there. Bob loved his animals, especially his dog and cat. In his younger years, he was always around animals and even helped train racehorses. Above all, Bob loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife Karen of Martinsville, IN, and mother, Barbara Culver of Port Allegany, is a daughter, Brianna (Trevor) Beck, stepson, Zachary Carey and stepdaughter, Amanda (Rob) Erwin all of Martinsville, IN; two brothers, David (Bev) Culver and James (Sharon) Culver both of Port Allegany; two sisters, Jacqueline Culver of Port Allegany, and Lisa (Jim) Rotello of Franklinton, NC; nieces and nephews: Pamela (Jason) Crants of Bellfonte, PA, William Postlewait of Austin, Megan (Chad) Saltsman of Port Allegany, Rebecca (Nick) Brandenburg of Pittsburgh, PA, Destiny Culver of Port Allegany and Anthony “TJ” Rotello of Anchorage, AL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Culver.
Friends will be received form 1-2 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 19, 2022) in the Veteran’s Memorial Home, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Culver, officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Port Allegany Honor Guard, immediately following the service. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Insulet Issues a Nationwide Voluntary Medical Device Correction for the Omnipod® 5 Controller
ACTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 14, 2022– Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ: PODD) (Insulet or the Company), today announced a Medical Device Correction for the Omnipod® 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System , because of an issue with the Omnipod 5 Controller charging port and cable. This does not impact the Omnipod 5 Pod, the Omnipod® DASH Insulin Management System, the Omnipod® Insulin Management System, or compatible Android smartphone devices that have the Omnipod 5 App installed. These actions are taken voluntarily with the knowledge of the FDA.
Insulet has received 24 reports that the Omnipod 5 Controller charging port (USB-C port) or cable (USB cable) are melting, deforming, or discoloring due to heat generated by a poor connection between the cable and the port. The excess heat may cause minor burns if those areas of the Controller are touched or could lead to fire. No serious injuries have been reported to Insulet as a result of this issue.

- At 1030 AM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line
extending from near Shinglehouse to near Roulette to Marshburg,
moving east at 30 mph.
HAZARD…Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to
blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts
up to 20 mph.
SOURCE…Radar and webcams.
IMPACT…Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous
within minutes.
This includes the following highways…
Route 6 between east of Smethport and Port Allegany, and from Ski
Denton to west of Galeton.
Route 219 from South Bradford to the New York border.
State Road 46 from north of Smethport to Farmers Valley.
State Road 446 from Farmers Valley to the New York border.

Widespread Snow Making Travel Hazardous
Thursday morning lake effect snows are making travel miserable, especially in Cattaraugus county where multiple accidents have been dispatched all morning. Predictions of up to three feet of snow for the snow belt areas to the north as the wind shifts to the north across the open lake. A widespread area reporting slippery roads covers a large portion of WNY & western PA. If you don’t have to go today, you’ll be safer in your home.
