James M. Moyer, Sr., 91, 7161 Jackson Run Road, Warren, formerly a longtime resident of Bradford, PA passed away, surrounded by his family, on Monday, July 3, 2023, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center.
Born September 30, 1931, in Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late Miles and Elsie (Freeman) Moyer.
Jim was a 1949 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School. On March 1, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army, he served in Germany during the Korea War. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. on February 12, 1954.
On May 3, 1958, in St. Ambrose Church in Schuylkill Haven, he married Agnes M. (Shaw) Moyer who preceded him in death on September 2, 2017.
Jim and Agnes relocated to the Bradford area in 1966. He worked 39 years as a Field Technician for National Cash Register. In retirement he and his wife assisted their son Mike and his family at the Tasta Pizza in Falconer NY.
He had attended St. Francis of Assisi St. Francis of Assisi Church, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving are three sons, James M. (Christina) Moyer, Jr., of Bradford, Thomas (Julie) Moyer, of Warren, and Michael (Melissa) Moyer, of Bemus Point, NY, seven grandchildren, Katherine (Jeff) Cattoni, Kelley Moyer, Casey Moyer, Shannon Moyer, Michael Moyer, Jr., Ashely (Chris) Lindsey, and Bryce Moyer, and two great grandchild, Kane, and Sawyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Agnes of 59 years.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 372 East Main St., at 7: 00 pm funeral services will be held with Rev. John Jacquel, Pastor of St. Bernard Church officiating. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions, if desired may be made to Lupus Research Alliance, 275 Madison Ave. 10th Floor, New York, NY 10016, any Disabled American Veterans Group, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Chuck Leichner Named Acting/Interim Superintendent at Bolivar-Richburg School District

The Bolivar-Richburg CSD Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Chuck Leichner as the District’s Acting/Interim Superintendent.
Chuck comes to B-R with over thirty years of public school experience having most recently served as the Superintendent of the Cassadaga Valley CSD. Chuck spent nine years in Cassadaga as Superintendent and prior to that served as the Superintendent of the Forestville CSD, where he also worked as a middle/high school principal, a middle school principal and a high school English teacher over the course of his career.
The Board of Education is excited to bring on such an experienced leader and Mr. Leichner is looking forward to becoming a part of the Bolivar-Richburg school family!
Chuck and his wife Shari live in Cuba, New York where they love to spend their spare time with family and enjoy their seven grandchildren. As a result of Board action that took place in a June 28th meeting, Mr. Leichner will make his official start at B-R on July 1st.
Chinyu Victoria Liang, 75, Former Bradford, PA Resident

Chinyu Victoria Liang, 75, of 730 Bower Hill Road, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023 at St. Clair Hospital.
Born June 28, 1948 in Taiwan as a single daughter, she was raised by her adopted grandmother throughout her childhood. She was an exceptional student throughout her life. Due to being the top student in her high school, she was able to attend National Taiwan University, the most prestigious college in Taiwan, without taking the entrance examination.
She graduated from National Taiwan University in 1970 and then immigrated to the United States to attend graduate school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master’s Degree in Chemistry on December 23, 1971.
At the University of Michigan, during graduate school, she met Zao Shon Liang, whom she married on January 12, 1972 in Ann Arbor, MI. They had a first daughter, Lillian, in 1975. They then moved to Bradford, PA around 1976 for Zao Shon’s pharmacy job. Subsequently, they had two twin daughters, Kimberly and Kelly, in 1979.
She had a passion for cooking and enjoyed preparing food for the family throughout her life. She took great joy in cooking Chinese dishes and snacks. She was a homemaker most of her life, with the exception of a short time working as a chemist at Zippo refinery in Bradford, PA.
She moved to Asbury Villas assisted living home in June 2020. She was well-liked by fellow residents there and the nursing staff who cared for her until her passing.
She is survived by her three children, Dr. Lillian Liang Emlet of Mars, PA, Drs. Kimberly Penny Liang and Kelly Victoria Liang of Kansas City, KS; a granddaughter, Caitlin Grace Emlet of Mars, PA; a brother-in-law, James T. (Sue) Liang, of Cleveland, OH; and some extended family members in Taiwan.
Family and friends welcome Thursday 2-4 pm WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800) 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp 15220 where a service will be held Thursday 3:00 pm. Private burial in Willow Dale cemetery in Bradford, PA.
COMMUNITY REPORT ON MEDICATION DROP BOXES

McKean District Attorney Stephanie L. Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that the medication drop boxes located throughout McKean County were recently emptied and weighed. The total medication collected for the 2nd quarter on June 13th was 89.4 lbs.
The medication drop boxes are located at several locations across the county. Each box contained the following during this collection:
Bradford City Police Station: 39.2 lbs.
Bradford Township Police Department:7.6 lbs.
Kane Borough Police Station: 16.2 lbs.
Sheriff’s Department: 25.4 lbs.
State Police Barracks: 1 lb.
The boxes were sponsored by the PA District Attorney’s Association and the PA American Water Company. They are available for anyone who wants to discard unused medication safely.
The boxes located at Bradford City Police Station and the State Police Barracks-Lewis Run are open 24/7; the boxes at Bradford Township Police Station and Sheriff’s Department (inside jail) are open Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; and the box at Kane Borough Police Station is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The County Detectives with the District Attorney’s Office collect and weigh the medication in the boxes and arrange for their disposal with the Attorney General’s Office.
The drop boxes are to prevent medication from being used by someone other than to whom it was prescribed as one step in preventing abuse and to prevent it from being flushed and impacting our water supply.

Exploring Careers in Healthcare

The Education Council is pleased to partner with UPMC Cole to provide a healthcare exploration experience for students. Healthcare explorers will spend three days at UPMC Cole running through medical simulations and health science career observation. The other two days will be spent at the Education Council’s Coudersport office, being introduced to common medical terminology and the human body through games, hands-on activities, and learning about the opportunities for healthcare career preparation. Transportation and lunch are provided.
This camp, taught by Lana Barth, CTC Health Assistance Instructor, is for students entering grades 7– 9. It is scheduled for Monday, July 17 through Friday, July 21, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Camp minimum is 6 and camp maximum is 12.
