Shirley D. Presher, 91, of 11 Sullivan Road, Bradford, PA went to be with her Lord, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, surrounded by her family at her residence.
Born February 14, 1932 in Carrollton NY, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Vera (Haigh) Spry. She attended school in Killbuck Salamanca, and Bradford.
On May 3, 1986, in Palatka FL, she married Willard J. “Willie” Presher Sr., who survives.
Shirley worked as a waitress at Johnson’s Restaurant for 25 years, and formerly worked at the Bradford Era, and Yum Yum’s Ice Cream Stand.
She was a 69-year member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and prepared funeral dinners.
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade Details
Ghosts, goblins, princesses, and monsters are invited to the Cameron County Halloween Sidewalk Parade on Saturday, October 28. Emporium Food Market and the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce teaming up for the event. Prizes will be given to the scariest, prettiest, most original, and funniest in three age categories 5-10, 11-14, and 15 and over.
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Raffle Announced to Kick off Firework Fundraising
Cameron County Fireworks blast off each July during Weekend in the Wilds. Fundraising for the event kicks off this week with a raffle. Smoker Logging has donated two dump truck loads (2 cords) of firewood to be raffled. The winner will be drawn during Shop Small Saturday, November 25. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at Sunnyside Boutique or the chamber office.
The fireworks are a signature event for the county. “People book hotel rooms, pack their camps and plan vacation around the event,” according to chamber executive director Tina Solak. The chamber phones have already begun to ring with people asking for the date which is Saturday, July 6.
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Sinnemahone Trail Run
Cameron County will welcome trail runners from across the state on Saturday, October 21. The Sinnemahone Ultra Trail Run celebrates its 11th year with participants selecting a 50k, 25k, or 12k course. The course begins and ends in downtown Emporium at 7:30am winding through Elk State Forest trails.

WELLSBORO IS CELEBRATING HALLOWEEN ON TUESDAY, OCT. 31 WITH A PARADE, COSTUME CONTEST, AND TRICK-OR-TREATING
Between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, the Wellsboro Halloween Parade will form at Packer Park on Queen Street in Wellsboro.
Beginning at 6 p.m. children and adults in costume will walk from Packer Park along Queen Street to Main Street. The parade will end on Main Street at Central Avenue.
CAROL MARY CLOWER, 76, Shinglehouse, PA

CAROL MARY CLOWER, died after a brief illness October 8, 2023 at Shady Grove Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 8, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Charles and Agnes (McAdams) Smutnik. She was residing in Montgomery Village, MD.
Carol graduated from Mastbaum High School, Philadelphia, Class of 1965. Following graduation, she worked for the Disabled American Veterans for almost 20 years. She raised her two older children in Levittown, PA.
After they had grown, she moved to Shinglehouse, PA where she continued to raise her youngest son and worked at Community Bank of Olean, NY.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas and Charles.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Walmer, sons Thomas Walmer and his wife, Sandy, and Brian Clower and his wife, Amanda; six grandchildren: Alex, Argo, Danielle, Joa, Kinsley, and Keeleigh; one sister, Dolores McKay; many nieces and nephews.
A private service of remembrance was held with her family.
Those who wish to remember Carol in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.

THE CANYON WATERFALL GEOLOGY HIKE ON SATURDAY, NOV. 4
Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., explore the waterfalls along the lower Turkey Path on your quest to unlock the geologic secrets of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
“This is a repeat of the popular hike we offered in June. The response was so good, we wanted to offer it again,” said Natural Resource Program Specialist.

The one-mile round trip hike up about 400 vertical feet, halfway up the Turkey Path, will be led by both park staff and professional geologists from DNCR’s Bureau of Geological Survey, weather permitting. If weather becomes an issue, the hike will be canceled.

The Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project is holding open, in-person auditions for its production of “Holiday Shorts & Sweets” at 1 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 15, and at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16 in the Gallery at the Warehouse Theatre at 3 Central Avenue in Wellsboro.
There are three 10-minute plays with roles for 12 females and 3 males and six holiday letters to be presented by one male and five female performers. No experience is necessary to audition. All genders and races are welcome.

WELLSBORO’S FALL CLEANUP WEEK IS THIS COMING MONDAY, OCT. 16 THROUGH NEXT FRIDAY, OCT. 20
This coming Monday, Oct. 16 through next Friday, Oct. 20 is Fall Cleanup Week in Wellsboro Borough. Residents can put items at the curbside on their regular garbage pickup day.
Items acceptable for cleanup week collection include leaves in bags or boxes, trash, old furniture, mattresses and springs wrapped in plastic, old tires (2 per household), lawn rakings, paper, magazines, litter, brush, small tree limbs, and shrub clippings. Like items must be bundled together.
Not collected will be demolition and construction materials, scrap metal, and appliances, which can be disposed of for a fee at the Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority’s Tiadaghton location at 10455 Route 6, Wellsboro. For information and pricing, call NTWSA Tiadaghton at 570-724-0145.

FREE HALLOWEEN PATH AT UPMC WELLSBORO IS SATURDAY, OCT. 28
This year’s Halloween Path is being held outdoors, rain or shine, along the Walnut Street driveway at UPMC Wellsboro (formerly Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. It is free and open to the public.
Families are encouraged to join in by dressing in costume. The theme is “Family Movie Night.” Trick-or-treaters will visit different stations along the path where they will receive special goodies and themed trinkets and be greeted by characters from different movies, such as “Frozen,” “Scooby-Doo,” “Wizard of Oz,” “Barbie,” “Monster Inc.,” “Lion King,” “Willy Wonka.” “Shrek.” “Moana,” “Super Mario,” “Minions,” “Elf,” “Adams Family,” and “Toy Story.”

BENEFIT CONTRIBUTES $3275 TO SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL SANCTUARIES HEADING HOME CENTER

The Ninth Annual Benefit for Homeless Animals, organized by Jerry and Helen Gaye of Osceola and held at the Knoxville VFW at 703 Boatman Road in Knoxville, Pa. this past Saturday, Oct. 7, raised $2,975 in cash for Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries’ Heading Home Center at 725 Gee Road in Middlebury Township.
Also donated were 150 pounds of dog food, several bags and cases of cat food, and cleaning supplies, valued at approximately $300 bringing the total contribution to $3,275. The Gayes play a major role in preparing for the benefit as well as when it is actually held. The Brownells assist them.

Kommuna Lux is a seven-member band founded around 2014 in Ukraine.
Next Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Deane Center’s Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro, the 75th season of the Wellsboro Community Concert Association will continue with a concert presented by seven musicians all the way from Ukraine.

UPMC Welcomes New Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon to Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., Oct. 9, 2023 –Jesse Torbert, M.D., orthopaedic trauma surgeon, has joined UPMC Williamsport, a Level II Trauma Center.
Dr. Torbert received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery with University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa. During his residency, Dr. Torbert was awarded a place in the Clinician Scientist Development Program, reserved to a select group of outstanding researchers in the field of orthopaedic surgery. He also completed fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, Md.

Alfred Station, NY, October 4, 2023 – The Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women (ACC FFW) announces its year-end fundraising campaign, including an in-person event on November 12th. Funds raised during this period will support the ACC FFW’s grant-making activities in 2024, benefitting women seeking financial assistance for long-term financial health. Since 2018, the ACC FFW has awarded more than $14,000 in grants to women across the three counties, helping them on their path toward sustained self-sufficiency.
