UAHS to host ConnectLife blood drives at hospital campuses

Bradford, PA; Olean, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), hospital campuses of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), will be hosting community blood drives. Both blood drives are in collaboration with ConnectLife, the region’s only community blood bank.
The OGH blood drive will take place on Wednesday, December 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. which will be coordinated on the ConnectLife Bus at the Mildred Milliman Outpatient Surgery Center across the street from OGH. Anyone can make an appointment at www.connectlifegiveblood.org with the sponsor code 000485, or by calling (716) 529-4270.

Interested Persons May Comment on Proposed Amendments Designed to Improve Operations of Public Utility LIURPs, Maximize Ratepayer Benefits
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today alerted consumers and other interested parties about the start of a public comment period for proposed amendments to current regulations for the Low-Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP). Interested persons are invited to submit written comments on the proposed amendments, which are detailed in the PUC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Order (NOPR) published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on Dec. 2, 2023 [53 Pa.B. 7506].

Courses being offered include Introduction to Psychology, Foundations of Math, Environmental Biology, Cyber Crime, Public Speaking, and many more. These courses are part of five associate degrees – Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Liberal Studies, and Social Sciences.
Of course, if you are not interested in pursuing an associate degree at this time, NPRC’s team will help you select courses or training that meets whatever goal you would like to achieve.

James C. Loy II “beloved son and nephew”
James C. “Jamie” Loy II, 43, a lifelong resident of Sweden Hill, passed away with his loving mother by his side on Friday, December 1, 2023, in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, after a short illness.
Born on Friday, August 22, 1980 in Coudersport, he was a son of James C. Sr. and Patricia L. Boden Loy.
Jamie was a graduate of Coudersport High School. He was an avid reader who thoroughly enjoyed studying and researching many matters in which he was interested. He spent his entire life on Sweden Hill, greatly enjoying the outdoors. Along with his late father, he spent countless hours walking and enjoying nature on the family farm.

Registration Now Open for 2024 Winter Women in the Wilds

Sinnemahoning State Park is now accepting registrations for the Winter Women in the Wilds event, which will be held at the park during the weekend of February 2-4, 2024.
The Women in the Wilds event at Sinnemahoning State Park is a ladies-only weekend of outdoor recreation and environmental education. The 2024 Winter WITW event offers women the opportunity to participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wilderness survival, interpretive walks, Dutch oven cooking, yoga, nature crafts and more. A full list of class options will be sent to registered participants once the details are confirmed.
Week of firsts for Penn College athletics

A milestone for Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers and the first United East Conference Volt Division wins of the season for the men’s and women’s basketball teams were recorded this past week.
WRESTLING
Penn College finished first in a 14-team field and nine of its 24 wrestlers placed among the top six in their respective weight classes at the RIT Invitational on Saturday, marking the team’s first-ever tournament team title.
The Wildcats earned 138.5 points and outdid host RIT, with 129 points, and Williams College, ranked 21st in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Tournament Team poll, with 128.5 points to round out the top three.

Delores T. “Toots” Frey, 88, St. Marys, PA

Delores T. “Toots” Frey passed away peacefully at 88 ½ years old (she was very proud of the ½ of the year) Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home.
She was born May 3, 1935, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Leo and Agnes Krieg Samick. She was a lifelong resident of the area, formerly resided on South Michael Road, and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1953. She was employed as an advertising sales representative for the Lake Shore Visitor and WKBI.
On September 15, 1956 in Queen of the World Church, she married Joseph R. Frey, who preceded her in death on January 28, 2015.
Michael D. Moscato, 52, of Emporium, PA

Michael D. Moscato, 52, of Emporium, PA passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois, DuBois, PA on Saturday (December 2, 2023).
He was born March 22, 1971 in Coudersport, PA a son of William Moscato, Emporium and the late Phyllis Agliardo Moscato.
Mike graduated from Cameron County High School. He worked for DiNardo Paving Company in Johnsonburg for many years and most recently he worked for the Emporium borough street crew. He was a member of the VFW, Moose and the Christabelle Clubs. He enjoyed his yearly trips to the Gettysburg battlefield, working on automobiles and animals.
Robert L. BOWMAN, 83, of Coudersport, PA, formerly of New Holland

Robert L. BOWMAN, 83, of Coudersport, PA, formerly of New Holland, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at UPMC Cole following a valiant battle with cancer.
Born October 3, 1940, in New Holland, he was the son of Aaron R. and Edna M. Weaver Bowman. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Monica F. (Deller).
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cared deeply for all his family. He was employed as a clerk for ten years and then a rural carrier for 25 years by the U.S. Postal Service in Lancaster County.
After retiring and relocating to Potter County, he delivered vehicles for Adelphia Communications throughout the country. Calling Potter County home for more than 25 years, Bob and Monica have been thoughtful stewards of “God’s Country” by maintaining roadsides and nature trails.
Bob was an active member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, assisting in the kitchen, caring for church grounds as a “yard bird” and serving as a Eucharistic Minister for residents at a local nursing facility. He also compassionately served others by providing transportation for Potter County Human Services. In Lancaster County, he volunteered many years at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church and as a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

G2 Gymnastics of Shinglehouse, PA hosted their annual Pink Out Flip Out in-house competition to kick off their 23-24 competitive season. The local club uses this as an opportunity to raise awareness and money for the Pink Pumpkin Project through various fundraisers such as a large basket raffle, event clothing order, concessions, and Warrior Wishes to honor all cancer fighters and those battling terminal illness. This year, G2 was able to donate $3,700 to the Pink Pumpkin Project to assist with emotional and financial support to local families fighting breast cancer and undergoing treatment. Representatives Paula Ketchner, Jill Cygan, and Brynn Cygan were there to receive the donation. G2 Gymnastics is honored and humbled to be even a small part of such an amazing project.
