Planning, patience, perseverance. I quietly sit in my tree stand looking down over a thick, lush, green food plot prepared to fill my freezer before winter. As I watch the beautiful sun rise in the sky above, I am thinking about more than hunting.
My kids and I planned and worked tirelessly this summer preparing the soil, picking rocks, planting and praying for rain in hopes that what we sowed would soon grow. Sure enough, good soil, good seed, a little rain and a little pig manure produced a food plot that the deer could not resist. All summer and fall our cameras showed us the fruit of our labor.

BRADFORD, Pa. — Ty Bowen is a non-traditional student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford working toward a teaching degree, but he’s already teaching the campus community about where he comes from – the Allegany Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
The territory is narrow a strip of land along both sides of the Allegheny River in New York state that forms the northern perimeter of Allegany State Park. It is less than 20 miles from campus and also a world away.
Bowen was raised primarily by his grandparents in Salamanca, N.Y., an unusual small city that rents its land from the Seneca Nation. The Seneca are the largest of six Indigenous nations that formed the Haudenosaunee (also known by the French name Iroquois) Confederacy. The land along the West Branch of the Tunungwant Creek that is now Pitt-Bradford was also once considered Haudenosaunee land.

On 11/28/23 at 19:22, Crary Hose, Clymer Hose, Harrison Township, Sabinsville Ambulance and Elkland with RIT were dispatched to 10 Hancock Hollow Rd, Westfield Township to the scene of a reported structure fire, fully involved. Engine 5-3 with crew of 5 and multiple units from Clymer Hose arrived on scene to a single-wide house trailer with flame showing from three sides. A 360 assessment by those first on-scene turned up no sign of anyone home or near exists, but the location of the occupants remained unknown during the incident. Crary and Clymer crews worked in unison to attempt to darken the fire with available tank water and two hand lines. The structure was almost completely engulfed in flames and had self-ventilated in numerous locations on the B, C and D sides. Crews quickly used up available tank water with little effect.
