Encourages Consumers to Explore #SaveinPA Opportunities; Understand How Changes Impact Their Bills; and Manage Winter Energy Usage

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) reminds consumers that many utilities, including all PUC regulated electric utilities, are adjusting their energy supply prices on December 1^st – and encourages consumers to understand those changes and explore #SaveInPA opportunities to reduce energy usage and manage winter energy bills.

While consumers cannot control winter weather, they can explore #SaveInPA opportunities to cut the size of higher seasonal bills – including shopping with competitive suppliers and reducing energy usage in their homes and businesses.

Understand How Energy Price Changes Impact Your Bill

Lights! Camera! Action! was the theme of the 2023 S. W. Smith Memorial Public Library Dinner Auction held recently in the Star Hose Company Banquet Room.  The event featured great food with appetizers provided by the Port Allegany Women’s Club, dinner catered by Eddie’s on Main and decadent desserts by Cindy Knapp.  Dave Whipkey served as bartender, Alex Cole of Argenteri Brothers provided musical entertainment and Scott from Amundson’s Auctions served as auctioneer.  Student volunteers Alayna Corey, Braylon Button, Juuso Young, Saxon Palmer, Levi Wilfong, Henry Kisler, Micah Emerick, Owen Kisler, Miska Young, Peyton Stiles, Alex Schott, Madison Fillhart, Aidan Clark and recent graduate Mikya Stake helped with games, bussed tables and assisted with the live, silent and bucket auctions. Collin Stuckey served as paparazzi for the star-studded event.   The Library Dinner Auction was a huge success once again thanks to the generous donations of the community and the hard work of those mentioned above and the Library Dinner Auction Committee.  Gross profit for the 2023 event was $37,755 with donations still coming.  

Port Allegany Light Up Night will be held Friday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. on the Town Square.  You’re invited to join in as the holiday season is welcomed with the lighting of the Town Square.  Free cookies and hot cocoa will be provided.  The PAES Ensemble will be singing carols.  The public is invited to bring an ornament for the tree when they come to the tree lighting.  Please put a name on it  if it is in honor or memory of someone.   The event is sponsored by the Port Allegany Women’s Club. Pictured are members of the Winter Wonderland on the Square Committee as they decorate for Light Up Night and the Winter Wonderland Event to be held December 9 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.The Winter Wonderland, also sponsored by the Port Allegany Women’s Club, will feature local food vendors including Charli’s, Moe’s, Fox’s, Eddies on Main, Flammata Pizza and Moose Lodge.  Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at the square for photos and to hear the wishes of the children.  Different vendors and activities will be set up around the square and there will be an opportunity to see the Cinco C’s Alpacas.  Wagon rides will be provided by the Moose Lodge and horse rides by Reins for Rescues.

He must be taking a break from his sleigh, because Santa is going to be in the Shay locomotive at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum on December 9, 2023, from 12 to 3 PM, to hear your holiday wish list.

Take an instant photo with St. Nick and make a super simple family-crafted ornament. Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa. Browse a holiday bazaar of local artisans. Admission to the Santa in the Shay event also includes admission to the Lumber Museum’s exhibit galleries, so take the opportunity to learn some lumber and forest history with your family!

Be sure to dress warmly and wear boots because Santa and the Shay locomotive are outside in an un-heated building. There could be snow on the ground too, so be prepared. Guest will also have to climb a short flight of stairs to make their way into the cab of the locomotive, but Santa can come out to meet you as needed.
