Each year for the past 18 years, including 2020, the year of Covid, the First Heritage Federal Credit Union with offices in Pennsylvania and New York has sponsored the purchase of the 16 Christmas trees that line Wellsboro Borough’s Main Street boulevards from East Avenue to Charles Street. 

On Friday, Dec. 1, representatives of First Heritage placed two of their special wooden ornaments bearing the words “Tree compliments of First Heritage Federal Credit Union” on each of the 16 trees. 

Helping to put the First Heritage ornaments on the trees were First Heritage Federal Credit Union Regional Manager Deb Meacham, Wellsboro Branch Manager Nancy Stamilio and Bob Blair, chairman of the First Heritage Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.

Four Electric Utilities – Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power – to Become FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a joint settlement that addresses all issues related to the proposed consolidation of four Pennsylvania electric utilities – Metropolitan Edison Company (Met-Ed), Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec), Pennsylvania Power Company (Penn Power), and West Penn Power Company (West Penn Power) – into the FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company (FE PA). 

The Commission voted 5-0 today to adopt the recommended decision issued by PUC Administrative Law Judges Conrad A. Johnson and Emily I. DeVoe, and approve a Joint Petition for Settlement of All Issues in this matter.

You’re invited to a Soup and Salad Luncheon to be held at the VMI (Veterans Memorial, Inc.) located at 4743 Route #155,  Sunday, December 10 beginning at noon. 

Proceeds from the $10  luncheon which includes soup, salad, desserts and beverages  will go to Pam Postlewait Crants.  Pam was recently diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. 

She and her husband, Jason, have two young children – Sutton and Micah.  In addition to the luncheon, there will be multiple raffles, 50/50’s, Chinese Auction and more!  Live music will be provided by Dan Roche. 

After 18 years of serving our communities, I am retiring. Janet, Wendy and I have tried to fill all your floral needs with love over the years.

The many miles we have travelled and the important times in your lives that we have been a part of have made this a very hard decision. We have all loved being your florists!

We hope you will stop in between now and December 16 to say goodbye and maybe find a last minute gift. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Rew Volunteer Fire Department 

At 0910 hours Rew fire department was dispatched to a one car motor vehicle accident in the area of 809 South Kendall Avenue. Station 8 members provided traffic control and assistance to Bradford city ambulance. Donovans towing cleared the vehicle from the scene.

He must be taking a break from his sleigh, because Santa is going to be in the Shay locomotive at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum on December 9, 2023, from 12 to 3 PM, to hear your holiday wish list.

Take an instant photo with St. Nick and make a super simple family-crafted ornament. Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa. Browse a holiday bazaar of local artisans. Admission to the Santa in the Shay event also includes admission to the Lumber Museum’s exhibit galleries, so take the opportunity to learn some lumber and forest history with your family!

Be sure to dress warmly and wear boots because Santa and the Shay locomotive are outside in an un-heated building. There could be snow on the ground too, so be prepared. Guest will also have to climb a short flight of stairs to make their way into the cab of the locomotive, but Santa can come out to meet you as needed.

The Port Allegany United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser now through February 2, 2024, to raise funds for the church.  Port Allegany UMC will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes.  Those dollars will benefit the church. 

Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes in the bins in the back parking lot of the church located at 307 North Main Street.  All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. 

BRADFORD, PA – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC), a member campus of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), announced the appointment of Jason Shaffer, NHA, as administrator of The Pavilion. Shaffer will be taking the leadership position and overseeing the 95-bed skilled nursing facility.

“We are pleased to welcome Jason to the Pavilion. His experience, skillset, and leadership will be a valuable asset to the Pavilion,” said David Monroe, MBA, BSN, RN, chief administrative officer, BRMC. “The Pavilion has tackled so many obstacles this year and now we want to continue growing and exploring opportunities to make improvements to become the skilled nursing facility of choice.”
