Summer holidays are fast approaching and we are thrilled to hear that Natalie Zucal will once more be returning from her Environmental studies in Olean to spend the summer in Cameron County with us!
Natalie debuted her new business, Breakfast at Natalie’s, at last year’s market and it was a big success!
Natalie spotted the niche market opportunity of selling breakfast themed foods at our morning markets and she nailed it! Her first product was home-made yogurt made from raw milk which produces a super creamy, delicious addition to any healthy breakfast and market goers were impressed!
Being an entrepreneurial young lady she quickly expanded her offerings and came up with a selection of nutritious granolas to complement her yoghurt. She created a variety of scrumptious flavors including blueberry, peanut butter, vanilla cinnamon, chocolate hazelnut, chai walnut, and cranberry almond granolas. You will find both her yogurt and granolas at the market again this year!

Pennsylvania State Police Completes Rollout of Body-Worn Cameras to Troop K Covering Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties
Harrisburg, PA –ThePennsylvania State Police (PSP) today announced that all patrol troopers assigned to Troop K – covering Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware counties – are now outfitted with body-worn cameras and updated mobile video recorders in their patrol vehicles. PSP expedited the rollout of body worn cameras to the Philadelphia region and completed the project with Troop K ahead of schedule. So far, PSP troops covering 19 counties have successfully implemented body-worn cameras. PSP expects to have fully implemented body-worn cameras and updated mobile video recorders at all of its troops by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center Student Heading to Nationals
Anastasia Penick, a senior from Port Allegany High School and third-year Culinary Arts student, competed at the SkillsUSA state competition in Hershey on April 3-5, 2024.
Ana finished with a first-place win and will now attend the SkillUSA Nationals competition, which will be held in Atlanta, GA on June 24-27, 2024. A first-place win at this level will secure her place in the world competition held in Paris, France.
In addition to her academic achievements, Ana also works at Fox’s Pizza in Port Allegany. She plans on furthering her education in the Dietary and Nutrition field after graduation. She has applied to the Forest County Corrections Center as a Corrections Food Service Instructor.
We wish Ana the best of luck at the competition and we are extremely proud of her success!
Guy E. Moscato, 92, of Sylvan Heights, Emporium, PA
Guy E. Moscato, 92, of Sylvan Heights, Emporium, PA passed away Saturday morning, April 27 after a brief stay at Guy and Mary Felt Manor. He was born in DuBois on December 30, 1931.
His life can be defined by an unwavering commitment to family and a love for life that included a multitude of interests. Beginning at an early age and aided by his grandfather was a love for animals, especially his ever present and faithful collies having nine in total over his adult life.
Guy moved with his family to Emporium in 1939 where his father operated Moscato’s shoe repair and he and his mother ran a pet shop. He graduated from Emporium High School in 1950 and the Pennsylvania State University in 1955 with a degree in chemistry. He was employed by Hooker Chemical and then Occidental Petroleum in Niagara Fall, NY until his retirement in 1989. Despite the distance he made it a priority to drive home every weekend to enjoy time with family, his dogs and his hobbies.

After the golf team won its second straight championship over the weekend, United East Conference playoff action is scheduled to continue this week with two more Pennsylvania College of Technology teams seeking titles.
The second-seeded men’s lacrosse team will host No. 3 seed Keystone College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Friday at 10 a.m., the women’s softball team, seeded second, will open the Volt Division playoffs against third-seeded Penn State Berks in a double-elimination tournament hosted by PS Harrisburg.

Claire E. Myers, 36, of 330 Main St., Kersey, PA
Claire E. Myers, 36, of 330 Main St., Kersey, PA passed away unexpectedly after her long battle with addiction, on Friday, April 26, 2024. She was born on November 29, 1987, in DuBois, a daughter to the late Timothy A. “Red” Myers and Jessica Jakuboski Myers. Claire had lived in Kersey for the past 5 years and had lived in the Valley for several years and previously spent most of her life in Rasselas.
Claire was a 2006 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School. Claire will be remembered for her smile, for her laugh, her silliness and her wit. She loved her boys and being a mother. She was so compassionate, but never got to fulfill her true calling of becoming a nurse.
She is now at peace after years of battling her demons and is with her dad, whom she loved dearly.
4/29/2024 UPDATE: Facility Energy Efficiency Project to Temporarily Close Interstate 80 Rest Areas in Columbia County
Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that two rest areas in northcentral Pennsylvania will undergo significant energy efficiency upgrades and renovations as part a Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project, initiated by PennDOT and the Department of General Services in 2021.
Under the GESA, building systems deemed eligible for energy saving upgrades within a GESA Project are leveraged by future energy savings. The project will upgrade heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting to improve energy efficiency in the buildings.
While improvements are being completed, the following rest areas, including parking lots, will be closed to the public:

33RD ANNUAL UPPER PINE CREEK TROUT TOURNAMENT IS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, MAY 18 AND 19; REGISTER IN PERSON FRIDAY, MAY 17 OR DURING TOURNAMENT HOURS
The entry fee for adults for the 33rd Annual Upper Pine Creek Trout Tournament is $25 through next Wednesday, May 1 and $30 from Thursday, May 2 to the end of the tournament on Sunday, May 19. The entry fee for youths under 16 stays at $15.
Sponsorships of fish prizes begin at $25 and may be indicated on the registration form.
The two-day tournament, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Snowmobile Club, is on Saturday, May 18 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 19 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. along a 13-mile stretch of Pine Creek between the Mill Street Bridge in Galeton Borough and the Ansonia Bridge on Colton Road in Shippen Township.
In-person registration and derby badge pickup will be open at the clubhouse on Route 6 on Friday, May 17 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The club will float-stock Pine Creek with 250 tagged trout from Galeton to Ansonia one day prior to the tournament.
It’s the luck of the draw that determines what prize an angler wins. After catching one or more tagged fish, the angler brings the trout in “live condition” to the check-in station at the clubhouse, and then draws a numbered Ping-Pong ball for each fish caught to see what he or she has won.
All fish must be legally caught. No fish will be accepted past one hour after the cut-off times. Anglers caught fishing before or after stated tournament times will be disqualified.
Those competing in the tournament must have a valid Pennsylvania fishing license and observe and obey landowners’ rights. Trespassing on private property is not allowed, nor is littering.
Up to $14,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded during the tournament. The top cash prize is $1,000. There are also four $500 cash prizes from the club, plus two additional $500 cash prizes in memory of a founding member from the member’s loving family.
The minimum prize for a tagged fish is $50 and may be cash, merchandise or a gift card, or a combination of the three.
Anglers can earn more than one prize depending on how many of the 250 float-stocked tagged trout they catch. The per angler limit is 5 fish per day during the two-day tournament for a maximum tota l of 10 fish/prizes.
