BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is working with the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh to provide a new, four-year emergency medicine degree on the Bradford campus.

            Students in the emergency medicine program will be Pitt-Bradford students for all four years, paying a lower Pitt-Bradford tuition and receiving Pitt-Bradford scholarships. Like all Pitt-Bradford students, they will earn a degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

            BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will hold four Saturday open houses this fall that will offer the best opportunity for students and their families to meet faculty and staff, tour campus and talk with current students all in one afternoon.

            For prospective students interested in pursuing computer information systems and technology, information systems, energy science and technology or one Pitt-Bradford’s engineering options, Duke Days will focus on tours of the George B. Duke Engineering and Information Technologies Building along with its hands-on labs and makerspace. Students will have a chance to talk with faculty in those program areas and eat in the university dining hall.

The 49th Annual All-Alumni Reunion for Port Allegany High School was held at the VMI (Veteran’s Memorial, Inc.) on Saturday, September 28.  Over 100 guests attended the event with twenty-six classes represented ranging from the Class of 1951 (Sylvia Davenport) to the Class of 2023 (Makayla Alcorn).

Alumni President, Phil Smith, welcomed the group and asked for a moment of silence for Robin Formoso, Alumni President until her passing earlier this year.  After leading the Pledge of Allegiance, Smith introduced the MC for the evening – Denny Bloss, Class of ’76.

Penn College has week to applaud

A new wrestling coach was named. Three new hall of fame inductees. Wins by the men’s and women’s soccer teams in their United East openers, and both teams won twice. There was plenty to applaud for Pennsylvania College of Technology athletics over the past week.

Dalton Rohrbaugh of Spring Grove was named the head coach on Tuesday. Rohrbaugh previously spent one season on the Shenandoah University wrestling coaching staff and before that he served as an assistant coach at Mayfield Mat Academy from 2020-23.

OLEAN, N.Y., October 1 – A friend to everyone, Tommy Moran was an inspiration to all who knew him.

A 2018 graduate of Allegany-Limestone High School, Tommy excelled on the gridiron, the baseball diamond and the basketball court. He represented New York in the 2018 Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic, where he played linebacker.

Tommy later attended Alfred State College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with the Sigma Tau Epsilon Certificate of Academic Distinction, and with an associate’s degree in electrical construction and electrical maintenance. After graduating, he worked as a maintenance electrician for Lidestri Foods in Rochester before moving back home to work as an electrician for the City of Olean.

            BRADFORD, PA – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, awarded Julia Jackson, LPN, with the 2024 third quarter Nightingale Award. Jackson, a license practical nurse (LPN) in the acute care unit, has been at BRMC since 1979.

Honorable Kenneth M. Jadlowiec, 73, of Englewood, FL, formerly of Bradford, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.  A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 in the church with the Rev. John Jacquel as celebrant.

Coudersport Ambulance was dispatched to Ross Glen Road for difficulty breathing at 7:40pm on Saturday.

Coudersport Rotary Club conducted their semiannual Roadside Cleanup along Route 6 on a wet and drizzly October 1, 2024, evening. Roadside cleanup volunteers were Rotary President Andrea Streich, Rotarians Jim Babcock, Michael Rigas, Lynne Ruffner, and John Abplanalp; and friends and family members Jason Streich, Kelby Streich, and Cody Shirey.

BRADFORD, Pa. – The art exhibition “Terra Forms: An Exploration of Local Materiality” will open Oct. 8 in the KOA Art Gallery of Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

Nature meets artistry in this latest exhibition by internationally celebrated artist Debra Eck. Running through Nov. 14, this immersive exhibition invites visitors to discover the beauty and complexity of the environment through the lens of local, natural materials.

This Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m., two bands, one based in Pennsylvania and the other in Florida, will perform in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
 
Gabe Stillman of Williamsport, and his band will hit the stage in high gear as they embrace all corners of American Roots Music with their impromptu selection of original gems and carefully chosen covers. 

With Halloween just around the corner, Bill Robertson of Duke Center in McKean County, Pa. is presenting a free Golden Afternoons program on Ghost Hauntings at 1 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 8. 

Golden Afternoons is free and open to adults, 55 and older. No preregistration is required.

The program will be in the lobby at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Refreshments will be provided.

Williamsport, Pa., October 2, 2024 – UPMC welcomes Nancy Abu-Bonsrah, M.D., M.P.H, to the neurosurgery team in Williamsport.

Dr. Abu-Bonsrah completed her medical degree, a master’s degree in public health, and her residency in neurosurgery with Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. She was the first African American female resident in the history of the hospital’s neurosurgery program.

Moondance: The Ultimate Van Morrison Tribute Concert will be performed live on stage at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 12 in the Coolidge Theatre at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. This is the fifth concert in the Deane Center’s indoor fall entertainment series being sponsored by Ward Manufacturing and C&N. 

Secretary Carroll highlights new safety measures, signed into law by Governor Shapiro, that will make construction and maintenance operations more visible to travelers.

Thanks to Governor Shapiro’s budget, $75 million in additional funds for new equipment will help ensure PennDOT has what it needs to clear roads quickly and efficiently.

PennDOT encourages Pennsylvanians to apply for temporary equipment operator positions statewide for the winter season to help supplement the department’s full-time staff and keep travelers safe.

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The joint Disaster Recovery Center located in Union County will permanently close Saturday, October 5 at 6 p.m.

Residents who continue to need the services available at a DRC can visit one of the other centers:

• Hepburn Volunteer Fire Company, 615 East Route 973 Highway, Cogan Station, Lycoming County
• Penn-York Retreat Center, 266 Northern Potter Rd., Ulysses, Potter County,
• Knoxville Community Center, 301 Main St., Knoxville Tioga County.

These centers are open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Individuals and households impacted by Tropical Storm Debby from August 9-10 in Lycoming, Potter, Tioga and Union counties can visit any DRC to receive help and information.
