* WHAT...Freezing rain expected for the higher terrain of
north-central and northeastern Pennsylvania. Total ice
accumulations around a light glaze.
* WHERE...Potter, Tioga, Northern Clinton, Northern Lycoming,
Sullivan, Columbia, and Schuylkill Counties.
* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 9 AM EST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Very slippery sidewalks, roads
and bridges are possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while
driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and
slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
OGH ICU Nurse awarded Fourth quarter Nightingale Award

Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, awarded Leah Brinsky, RN, intensive care unit, OGH, with the 2024 fourth quarter Nightingale Award. Brinsky, a registered nurse (RN), has been with the organization since 2021.
“Leah exemplifies personalized, patient-centered care, consistently going above and beyond to meet the unique needs of each patient. She is known for her ‘patient-first’ attitude, taking time to build connections with patients and truly understands their needs. Her dedication is evident in her individualized attention to essential tasks, such as bed baths, timely medication delivery, pain management, and comforting beside care. Leah’s commitment to excellence extends to her interactions with families and hospital staff, where her clear communication fosters trust and collaboration. Her coworkers and patients both recognize Leah for her exceptional clinical skills, including detailed patient assessments and thorough patient and family education. Beyond her bedside presence, Leah continually works to improve processes, ensuring that patient care remains efficient and effective. Her leadership inspires those around her, as she serves as role model and a source of support for the team around her,” said her nomination. “Leah’s compassion, professionalism, commitment to patient centered care, and her dedication to the ICU team make her a deserving recipient of this honor.”
The Nightingale Award is a result of nominations from medical providers and other team members throughout BRMC and OGH. The prestigious award is presented quarterly to one nurse who provides exceptional patient care, excels in patient and family teaching, creates an environment of efficient open communication with patients, as well as serving as a role model for peers.
Calvin P. Cochran, 89, of Turtlepoint, PA

Calvin P. Cochran, 89, of Turtlepoint, passed away Wednesday (December 25, 2024) at Cole Place, Coudersport.
He was born February 24, 1935 in Portage Twp., the son of Henry and Nora (Rhodes) Cochran .
Mr. Cochran was a graduate of Port Allegany High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959.
Calvin worked at Pittsburgh Corning of Port Allegany.
He was a member of the Eldred American Legion.
Donna Mae Payne, 85, of Rixford, PA

Smethport – Donna Mae Payne, 85, of Rixford, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) at her residence.
She was born April 20, 1939 in Aiken, PA, the daughter of Samuel and Hattie (Dickie) Neely. On Sept. 6, 1958, in Bradford, PA, she married Richard E. Payne, who survives.

Paulette was born in Bradford on December 10, 1943, a daughter of the late John and Margaret Jane Bednar Platko. She was raised in Custer City and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1961. Paulette grew up with two siblings: Patricia Ann and Paul Andrew.

A Portion of Route 225 Closed in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a portion of Route 225 is closed in both directions between Dornsife Mountain Road (Route 4019) in Little Mahanoy Township and Hendon Bypass Road (Route 3006) in Jackson Township, Northumberland County, due to a vehicle striking the bridge over Mahanoy Creek.
A detour using Herndon Bypass Road, Route 147, Boyles Run Road (Route 4022) and Dornsife Mountain Road is in place. The bridge is expected to be closed for a long period of time; updates will be sent as information becomes available.
Motorists should be alert, slow down, and expect delays in travel.
