When the Pennsylvania College of Technology cross-country teams ran in the United East Conference preview race on Sept. 12, it was just their second meet of the season as the two-time defending champion men finished second in an 11-team field and the women placed fifth among 10.

Since then, they’ve had three more competitive outings, including last Friday when eight members of the men’s team and six women posted either their personal or season-best times in their respective 8K and 6K races, and they appear to be peaking at just the right time going into this Saturday’s conference championships hosted by Penn State Brandywine.

The men run at 11 a.m., with the women following at noon.

The other night, I went into the bedroom of the house I was staying in and found my dog on the bed holding something between her front paws. Upon closer inspection —and to my horror —I realized she had found a glue mouse trap, which was stuck to her feet and the bed. Luckily, it wasn’t stuck to her face too. As I tried to free her, I also got caught up in the sticky mess. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy, but it made me think.

Good Afternoon Community –

As I am sure you have heard, many of our neighbors are facing an incredibly difficult month. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)  — aka food stamps, which helps low-income individuals and families afford groceries — has been temporarily placed on hold for November. For households that rely on this assistance, that means an entire month without the benefits they depend on to buy food.

At the same time, LIHEAP, which helps families with heating costs, is delayed until December 3rd. As temperatures drop, families are being forced to make impossible choices — heat or food, bills or groceries.

Our community is feeling this strain more than ever. But together, we can make a difference.

Join us for the United Way Community Food Drive on Saturday, November 8th and Sunday, November 9th.

Here’s how you can help:
🥫 Donate non-perishable food items to help restock local food pantries that are already running low.
💪 Volunteer your time by helping at one of our food collection “stations.” Every helping hand counts.

Sign up to volunteer here: Sign-up Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-eZXsaBU_vdfw1byBY13hFd4s1kOPS_ndeCOWK1fkrc/edit?usp=sharing

When our neighbors are struggling, our community shows up — and now is that time. Let’s come together to ensure no one goes hungry this November.

Thank you for standing with us and showing what it means to LIVE UNITED.

Each November, we “fall back” by setting our clocks one hour earlier as Daylight Saving Time ends. While gaining an extra hour of sleep may sound like a bonus, the shift can still disrupt your body’s internal clock, especially if you’re already sleep-deprived.

Our circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep and wake cycles, is influenced by light exposure. When the clocks change, our exposure to morning and evening light shifts, which can affect sleep quality, mood, and alertness.

What to Expect

Even though we gain an hour, the earlier sunset can lead to:

E.A. Sween Company, an Eden Prairie, Minn. establishment, is recalling approximately 127,887 pounds of a pulled pork sandwich product that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic.

The show was held October 23rd through the 26th at the Pennsylvania Farm Complex in Harrisburg, PA.
